Eye’m waiting for Halloween

jsldt5thoct

This month’s challenge at Just Some Lines is Halloween. To play along you need to use a Just Some Lines image to enter and you could win a fantastic digi stamp if you’re picked as part of the Top 3!

I had so much fun making this!!I chose to make a shaped card to go with the rather creepy Waiting – Skeleton by Just Some Lines. He’s been coloured with Copic Ciao Markers then fussy cut so that I could add him to this die cut tombstone card.I always like to cover the front of shaped cards with another die cut panel to hide the folded edge. This gave me the opportunity to have a good, messy play too!!I started by embossing the piece to give it some texture then sanded it to create a pitted, weather worn feel.I wanted to deboss the lettering as if were were really carved into the stone. Now this was a learning curve – but I did it 😀 I cut the letters from some scrap chipboard then stacked them 3 deep, gluing of course 😉 Next came the hardest part of figuring out how to make the perfect sandwich in my Big Shot and astounded myself by getting it right first time!To enhance the effect I ran a ProMarker inside and followed with a black pen where I thought the extra shadowing should be.Onto the lichen next…I wanted this to be pretty realistic but having only Polar White Flower Soft was a bit of a hurdle.Remembering I had some inks tucked away in a drawer I tipped a little Flower Soft into a small pot and dropped some Yellow plus a couple of drops of Butterscotch for a more natural appearance, smooshing it around with my finger to make sure it all got coated.Whilst this was drying I inked round the edges of my tombstone then cut, sanded and inked the ivy.The grass at the bottom is actually the leftover from the ivy trimmed down, sanded, inked etc… I adhered my little skele friend (or should that be fiend?) and using clear drying PVA added my lichen, trying to emulate how it would normally grow. There I’m done!!

And just in case you think it’s a little early to start thing about All Hallow’s Eve here’s a glimpse of what was in my garden the foggy other day just to get you in the mood….

spiders 002 spiders 004

Spooky,eh?When I think of all the money I’ve spent on decorations….lol….

It’s OK there aren’t any spiders visible in these pics….I left those ones out deliberately…. 🙂

Happy Bearthday!

cypdt22ndjuly

At Craft Your Passion this week the challenge is Happy Birthday. We have the fabulous Birdie Brown as our sponsor too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.

For my card I’ve used a totally adorable  image from Birthday Bear set by Birdie Brown, the sentiment is part of it too,and coloured them with Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers. To create the kind of ‘fuzzy’ effect on the bear I went over it several times with my pens and covered quite a large area with the lightest colour first. This way when you apply the darker shade, then overlay the light colour when blending it bleaches it out a little and you get a mottled appearance. You have to be aware that when you layer up the ink this way it does deepen the colours despite having heard the contrary! The pretty papers are freebies from the centre pages of a past copy of Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine.I’ve got a ton of back copies with these in and I’m trying to make it a mission to use them up.I’ve teamed them up with some coordinating cardstock.I’ve created some fancy borders and corners with a punch and a die.A couple of layered Prima Flowers and a handful of gems have been added to embellish.

Supplies :

Image and sentiment : Birthday Bear set from Birdie Brown
Papers & Card : Freebies form Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine,Core’dinations Roy G. Biv 12 x 12 Cardstock Pad

Tiptoe kraftily thru’ the Tulips

jsldt18thmay 001

At Just Some Lines the challenge is Anything Goes this fortnight.Only projects made with Just Some Lines images can be entered. But the good news is there will be a freebie image posted on the blog for the duration of the challenge for you to use!Just pop on over to Just Some Lines to find out all the details. While you’re  there don’t forget to get inspired by the DT’s creations.

For my card I’ve used the sweet Emo Tulip by Just Some Lines and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers.I’ve teamed her with some pretty First Edition papers and some lovely shimmery cardstock I found to go with it in my stash.Everything has been layered onto a kraft card blank, using another for the die cut pieces. The centre has been cut from the doily type die with another from the same set.The tulips have been made by cutting up and reassembling a couple of flowers again from these dies.I added texture with an embossing folder on the mat the image is on.I just HAD to use my new Whimsy Stamps button stamps and die again for the sentiment which has been threaded with baker’s twine.I’ve embellished with some raffia lace ribbon. Not only does it go beautifully with the kraft I totally adore this stuff – nearly as much as my dog!

This is what happens when the dog gets on the bed just as you’re in the middle of making it and you think she will move…

Flowery olwery

Shell is hosting the Willow Sketchie Challenge this week and here’s her fabby sketch :

The theme is Make Your Own Backing Papers. You can choose the sketch or theme.Or even both! You could be the lucky winner of a voucher to spend at Willow Designs too!Don’t forget to stop by the challenge site and check out my fellow DT’s beautiful creations.A truly inspirational bunch.

I started with the background on my card.I used an old stamp I”ve had for a few years that I bought in a set when I first discovered Willow Designs.Unfortunately they’ve been discontinued.I stamped directly onto the card blank and coloured them with Polychromos pencils blended with oils thinners.I chose warm oranges and yellows to go with all the lovely sunny weather we’re getting at the moment.I then decided to colour a Winnie image from the Winnie Owl digital stamp collection from Willow Designs by using the same method. The strip of Whitewash card has been embossed and sanded. The sentiment is from the the same set as the background flower and the button centres on the words have been stamped again, coloured with the pencils, blended, cut out and layered. It doesn’t show in the pic but they’ve been coated in 3D Lacquer. These cute little die cut flower swirls have been added for some extra detail.I have moved one of these slightly on the sketch as it didn’t look right in the original place 😉

Sew,it’s a boy!

At Craft Your Passion this week the theme of the challenge is For Baby with optional stitching. We have two fab sponsors – Patties Creations and Scrapbook Unique.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

For my card I’ve used the sweet Little Boy Sailor Suit from Patties Creations and coloured with ProMarkers.I’ve traced over the hanger using a silver gel pen.Now I’m not the World’s greatest stitcher but I thought I’d give it a whirl!I punched the edges of two papers with an EK Success punch that created a row of holes along the wavy edge and carefully back stitched.I pricked holes around the edge of the oval and again used back stitch.I pleated the paper along the bottom and made a pleated rosette too.To the centre of this I added a giant brad stamped with the sentiment.I finished the card with a die cut corner.

Supplies :

Time for cake!

We are looking for Party Animals at AiFactory Challenges this week!So any Birthday projects featuring animals are acceptable. You have until Wednesday 20th April  11.59 to upload your project.Stop by the challenge site to check out full details on how to play anwhat you could win.Don’t forget to take a look at the wonderful DT creations while you’re there!

N.B. The store has recently had an overhaul and it takes time to put all the images back up.Please be patient the owner is doing all she can.

For my card I’ve used 2 inch Circle Cupcakes from AiFactory along with one of the owls that were featured here.I resized the cupcake set by 50% and cropped one of the owls from the set and resized that.As there are 12 cakes in the set I decided to set them around the owl like a clock face.I then added it to an easel card.I found these gorgeous pink papers amongst my hoard of paper pads to match the owl.I also went girly so I can give this to my daughter for her birthday later in the year.I printed the sentiment out myself.I just love using these cliparts the colours are so vibrant and really pack a punch! They’re versatile too as they could be used as cupcake topers, labels for party bags or even to decorate party favours.

Supplies :
Images : 2 inch Circle Cupcakes  and 2 inch Cute Owls Circle Tags from AiFactory

So Stinkin’ Cute

We’d love to see your Black and White cards/projects at Digi Doodle Shop’s Best this week.Check out the challenge bog for details on how you could be the lucky winner of a $10 Gift Certificate to spend at Digi Doodle Shop or join us as a Guest Designer.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT’s beautiful creations too.

For my card I’ve used the irresistible Stinky! He’s such a sweetie! He’s been coloured with Promarkers and depth has been added with some Black Soot Distress Ink.I actually found it quite scary to use such a dark colour but I think it turned out OK.I used a Cuttlebug puzzle die to cut two pieces of black and white card that I printed off from Canon Creative Park.I was just going to run them through at random then it hit me to match them up!Didn’t do too bad a job.I’ve still got some left over to use on something else. The swirly panel was created by using a Cuttlebug embossing folder on some Whitewash card and sanding it back to reveal the colour underneath.I rubbed over the sponge with the remaining ink on it for extra definition.I cut the flower, part of a Cuttlebug alphabet set, from some felt for added furry texture to go with my little friend here and adhered a black pearl in the centre. The sentiment is from a Hero Arts stamp set.

It’ also a special day for me today. It’s my Birthday!!Although I say it with some trepidation – another year older and all that.Anyway I had some lovely cards, pretty flowers, yummy Thornton’s chocs and The QI Book of General Ignorance – one of my fave programmes .I haven’t had my ‘real’ pressie yet.Unfortunately it won’t be anything crafty as I’ve been waiting for what seems like an age for some Al Murray – The Pub Lanlord tickets to be available. They seem to sell out rather rapidly.I know he’s not to everyone’s taste but as it’s DH’s Birthday next week too he treated us.Mind you we’ve ended up in the Circle as the only tickets left in the Stalls were in the front row.Given DH’s ever growing Beer Belly and shaven head,to hide the grey,I’m pretty sure he would be a prime candidate for Al to pick out.I feel you’d have to be very brave to sit under his nose at one of his shows!!All hail to the ale!

Christmas with Pizazz!

It’s ANYTHING GOES at Craft Your Passion this week!!So you’re free to make whatever you choose!!

We also have some fabulous news.We are being sponsored this week by Pizzazz Aplenty. The owner Judy is very generously giving away a $15 Goodie Pack to one lucky winner! But that’s not all – for every 50 entries one person will win digital stamps from either Lauretta’s Digital Stamps  or CoCoDingo Digital Stamps!!

With all that going on you’d be mad to miss it!So what are you waiting for ?Head on over to check out full details on how to play and take a look at the DT and GDT’s beautiful work.

I’ve used French Cutie from Lauretta’s Digital Stamps. She’s not really a Christmas stamp you could use her anytime. She just reminded me of the type of image you seeon Victorian style Christmas card with all her lacy petticoats on show. She does look wintry too, keeping her hands warm in that muff. She’s been coloured with Promarkers and her tiny buttons have been given dimension with Ruby Red Liquid Pearls.

I decided to make a rossette using some beautiful Jezebel lace from Pizzazz Aplenty.Us DT were so lucky to recieve some gorgeous goodies from the store.I can tell you first hand I was so impressed with the quality of these products. The lace cut so perfectly I didn’t feel the need to sew the edges of the rossette together once I’d pulled it into shape.I’ve also used some fabulous  red Rhinestones to adorn the die cut corner pieces.I’ve also discovered a fantastic new tool! It’s called a Gel Picker and can be found on the same page as the Rhinestones. There is also an informative guide on how to use it.I had so much fun using it and boy did it make life a LOT easier. It’s a real ‘must have’.No more trying to pick them up with with tweezers only for them to ping across the  room or trying to position them with fumbling fingers. And most important of all  – no cursing when one of the little blighters escapes just as your youngest enters the room!

For my card I’ve used a Lucky Cat or his proper name Maneki Neko. He’s from Banana Frog’s Kawaii Kokeshi set.I’d already done my homework on these little cuties before and found apart from the traditional ones you mostly see they do come in different colours/designs.So I thought I’d go with these colours to compliment the papers.I’ve also added pearls as they are seen in many cultures as a symbol of good luck.Apart from that that are just so pretty!
