Meet Smookie

Smookie002[2]

Isn’t this just the sweetest dragon you could ever wish to meet.

This card was made for this weeks Katie’s Sketchie Challenge on Craftbubble and Challenge 5 Lemon and Meadow Green over on Passion for ProMarkers. It’s the first time I’ve entered so the biggest challenge for me will be creating a link!

Smookie Pot by Kars is mounted behind the spotty paper using Small Pinking Circles Nestabilities to cut the apeture.I then used them to create a frame to place over the top mounted on foam pads. Both borders were made using a Woodware Inverted Corner punch with the guard removed.Embellished with paper flowers,a heart shaped brad which I coloured yellow with a permanent marker and some buttons from my stash.Apart from Lemon and Meadow Green I used Lilac and Amethyst Promarkers on the flowers.

Katie’s Sketchie had 2 twists ; to create a border and to use some glitter. The border’s pretty obvious I suppose but I’m not sure if the glitter really shows even in this close-up.

Smookie004[1]

I used a clear Stardust gel pen on the bee’s wings, flower center’s and leaf veins. The top button has glitter encapsulated in it.

Hippos and Pirates!

An odd combination I know. Both cards were made for the Willow Sketchie Challenge at the Craftbubble forum. The first is a Father’s Day card.

th_cards005[1]

Stamped image by Imaginisce coloured with Promarker pens, patterned paper printed from Canon Creative Park, some knotted ribbon from a pack bought at Early Learning Center for a pound (art & craft departments of toy shops often have some great goodies for a fraction of the price of craft retailers),square button from stash, corner rounder punch and first use of Safmat film. For those who are unfamiliar it’s an A4 transparent sheet you can print a computer generated image or wording onto, cut round, peel backing off and stick down onto your project.Almost like a personalised rub-on.

Second card made for DS2’s friend who was having a Pirate and Princess birthday party.

cards009[1]

The sketch has been rotated.I coloured the stamped Pirate from TandaStamps  with Promarker pens using the blender to pick up ink scribbled onto an acrylic block for the sand, sea and sky to create a subtle background, distressed and inked the edges. As I had stamped the image in brown I went over the hat and eyepatch with a black fine liner pen.I love these stamps but in the past found it quite difficult to find a medium that didn’t obliterate the fine detail on them so they were just used as they were.Because I decided to colour the image first I then discovered that I didn’t have any papers to co-ordinate.So I took a piece of ordinary copier paper used some of the solid stamps from the sets with Momento Dew Drops.I then filled in between with some blue and yellow chalks. After that I screwed it up into a ball, flattened it out before applying light brown chalk ink lightly with a sponge and distressed the edges, tearing in places adding more chalk ink on the back in  places that would be seen from the front and then rolling and folding the paper .The white card the sentiment is on was also chalked and inked.A Seagull punch was used on the corners and silver brads were tarnished by sanding lightly and rubbed over with a little black Stazon.Fibre and Skull and Crossbones charm added for the finishing touch.

I think I’ve managed to catch up now.

Christmas in June!

cards 006

I know to the outside world it may seem a tad early for Christmas cards but those within the crafting world know it’s never too early to start making cards.

After seeing this type of card made on Create and Craft shopping channel and in June issue of Craft Stamper magazine I thought I would have a go myself.I liked the idea of only using small quantities of these gorgeous Hot Off The Press Christmas papers. It’s actually from a pad I bought last year as I managed to come up with a design that only used a strip of the paper edged with scored lines using an Eazi-Score board.Which meant all the more for me!Fellow paper strokers will understand what I mean.Since when did I become obsessed with patterned paper?Since I first discovered it of course!

Sounds like I need to get back to the card… I like the simplicity of the design and the swirly reindeer stamp.Personally I make about 60 or so Christmas cards for family and friends so I try to keep it simple.Although it’s hard to tell from the picture the dots on the antlers are glittered. Both stamps are from e-Bay shop CraziBoutStamps.I also bought an Angel in the same style and another sentiment.I will mix it up a bit with different papers, colours and embellishments as well as the stamps. This style of card is intended for family and friends whose children have grown up.I have a different card using a Shaun the Sheep stamp (of Wallace and Gromit’s A Close Shave fame) lined up for those with young children. I was quite pleased with the result but trying to be a little too perfect I measured to find the exact center so I think next time I shall move the brad forward slightly to give a more even border. I shall still send this tho’ and just hope nobody notices!

Playing catch up…

…Hmmm, seem to spend my whole life doing that.

Anyway continuing from last time my pens did arrive but by the time I’d finished the card and waited for some decent daylight to take a photo it was too late to enter it.Still it was another card made so not  a waste really. This was also going to be an entry for Promarkers Challenge over on Passion for Promarkers but I wasn’t entirely happy with my colouring on this one either.Found it difficult to get the depth of shading I usually go for.Perhaps it was because they already quite dark colurs to start with.

Papers are Basic Grey Cupcake.Embellished with Papermania buttons from their red and blue tubes.Border strip made with Fiskars Scallop Sentiment punch.Lip Pattern corner punch by Siesta used on image which is from Ollyfant On The Farm set 1 by Kars clear stamps.

fathers day 2009 001

Well my blog may have been idle but I haven’t.I have some more work(YES of course cardmaking is work!Hard work too I might add) to share but it will have to wait for another day.

I’m not lion,honest!

Lioncard001-1[1]
Here’s my entry for this weeks Willow Sketchie Challenge over on Craftbubble. It was DT member Karen’s turn to set this one.

Made using Basic Grey Archiac papers,Inverted Scalloped Circle Nesties to emulate a lion’s mane, eyelets fixed with my trusty Big Bite, first outing of my Lion stamp from Imaginisce’s Wild Things Collection which is coloured with my most favourite pens – Promarkers.

Love these colours together.Always reminds me of eating Terry’s Chocolate Oranges!

I have another Challenge card that’s a WIP.I’m waiting on some new pens to arrive before I can complete it.Might have to have a rethink if they don’t come in time.

Please stop by and add a comment. They’re much appreciated.

Oriental Delight

Arigato 001

This the card I made for this weeks Willow Sketchie Challenge using my prize.Apart from the sketch there were two twists. The first one being to use any left over papers and the second was to put together colours you wouldn’t usually.

Found these rich terracotta pieces in my scraps file.Usually I find  dark green is much more in keeping with those earthtones but thought I’d try using pale blue. When it came to mounting the image, once coloured with Promarkers pens,I couldn’t resist using the darker blue card I dug out whilst looking for the paler one in my scrap card box.

I chose copper eyelets and brads to make a change from the silver and gold I normally reach for.

The large brad topped with a flower from the same download sheet is actually serving as a closure for the sentiment.

Here’s a picture of it open.

I’m a winner!!

pink pig 001

I was so stunned  to be picked as the winner of last weeks Willow Sketchie Challenge on the Let’s Get Stamping group on Craftbubble .A fantastic, friendly forum where there are plenty of challenges and groups to join in with. Not just for cardmakers – there’s a variety of crafts including cross stitch , scrapbooking and ATC’s.

I don’t mean to bleat on about being one of those people who never wins anything but I really am.

Anyway my prize came in the form of the lovely Oriental Delight download designed by Sharon Armstrong of Willow Designs.

I’ve made this weeks Challenge card using one of the cute images but I’ll be posting that  another time.My brain is now aching from trying to get my head round this blogging malarky.I still don’t really know what I’m doing!!!

Image coloured with Promarkers and Blender pen.Papers printed from Canon Creative Park.

‘Til then,

Craftybunny.

Hello world!

I don’t know about hello I think it’s more a case of…

Eeeeek! I don’t really know what I’m doing! Not really a techno-phobe  – it just doesn’t seem to like me very much!

I’ve actually been thinking of setting up a blog for about the past year but have only just got round to doing it.If procrastination were an Olympic sport I would surely win gold.My rule for life seems to be “Always put off  today what you can do  tomorrow.”

You never know I might come back in the near future  with some pics of stuff I’ve made.

Hope you come back and visit soon,

Craftybunny.
