A splash of colour

raspberrymangagirl006

Over at the Willow Sketchie Challenge on the Craftbubble forum the twist this week was monochrome with a dash of colour.

Here’s the sketch:

Slide1_2

Although I have stacks of patterned papers I don’t seem to own any black and white ones.Fortunately I’d spotted these lovely florals at Canon Creative Park a while back and thought  I’ll have to play with them sometime.Well now I  got the chance.

As they are positive and negative images of the same design I cut an apeture, using Nestabilities, out of the darker one then positioned the lighter one behind. The centers of the flowers have been accented with Maroon Promarker. The stamped image by Sugar Nellie from Funky Kits has been shaded with pens from the Cool Grey range,1,3 and 5,with small amounts of Black for extra depth. The bow, buttons and tights are coloured in Maroon and Mulberry. They are showing more purple in the photo but in IRL they match the Core’dinations card better (more like the flower middles). The skin is a mix of Ivory and Blush and highlights are added with white gel pen.Even though she’s sitting on a ledge on the stamp I decided to carefully cut some slits so that the ribbon could be extended from the tag to the image. The sentiment comes fromPersonal Impressions Cute Characters set 2.

Christmas Cutie!

A lot of the ladies who take part in the Willow Sketchie Challenge (see previous post) sometimes make more than one card.Everyone seemed to be on a roll this week.I had only made a lowly total of one :(So Idecided to make another quick card to keep it company:

Polarbear002

My newly acquired stamp,Imaginisce Polar Bear, seemed to be perfect for more traditional decoupage. How do they manage to cram so much cuteness into 99p?

Here’s a view of the layers:Polarbear003

Over at My Time To Craft  this weeks challenge is ‘Snow Buddies’.This little fella is so adorable who wouldn’t want him as a friend?

He’s coloured with more new Promarkers ;  Midnight Blue,Denim Blue and Pale Pink. The Blender has also been used. The base card and pieces the image are stamped on are Hessian textured card. The papers are Daisy and Dandelion A Winter’s Tale.Included in the pack are two sheets of foiled sentiments.I’ve used one from the silver set, attached  a brad and positioned it on the card with a foam pad.The swirls are actually silver mirror board and any colours you can see are my reflection.Lol.

How it looks when standing:

There was a twist this week to decoupage your image or to make your card 3-D in some way.

I don’t know why but I’d got it into my head it was layers! So I merrily cut part of the front off a card and replaced it with acetate. The purpose being that the Sketchie would be carried through to the inside.

As this card is intended for DD1 who is going to be 16 shortly I used a Manga Girl stamp as this is one of her interests.I hope she likes it – I’ve even used her fav colours. The purple tones are all new Promarker colours ; Plum,Purple and Orchid.I’ve also highlighted areas using a white gel pen.

The hair, dress, boots and arms have been layered using silicone glue. The pieces were shaped and the edges were stuck down flatter. Not so much your conventional decoupage just a 3-D effect.

I pierced the papers  with an EK Success Zig Zag rotary tool and added some faux stitching .Edges have been distressed too.I have attached a poem to the other side of the mounted purple spotty paper .This stops the glue showing inside. The lady who created it asks that her verses are for personal use only so I don’t want to show it in case I’m in breach of something.

The swirls are from the Cuttlebug Vintage 2×2 dies.I adhered them to the card only to avoid seeing the glue from the other side.I used two paper flowers,a ribbon brad and some ribbon from my stash. The greeting was generated on the computer. The papers are Making Memories.

Whoo’s a pretty boy then?

birthdayowl002

When it comes to mens’ cards I try to keep it simple but add a few elements to create some interest. This one uses just some distressed newsprint patterned paper(from my K & Co pad again) matted onto some dark brown card. Both layers have had the Tim Holtz Paper Distresser treatment.A piece of Core’dinations Whitewash card that has been embossed with a Text Cuttlebug folder, lightly sanded and distressed is mounted across the top.

I stamped the owl which was a freebie from Craft Stamper on some pale peach coloured Papermania Textured card.I then masked him and positioned a clear swirl stamp, which was also a magazine freebie, to give him a branch to perch on.What could be better than stamps?Free stamps! He’s been coloured using some of the new Promarker range of colours. The sentiment, part of the Hero Arts Cupcakes  clear set,has been stamped onto some twill that tied a bundle of new tea towels I bought recently.Finished with some grungey brass  brads.

Lol – I’ve only just noticed I’ve used too many  ‘n’s on my watermark!Hehe.

Tooth Fairies are Frogs?!

Toothtin007

Well they could be.I remember DD1 when she was little watching a cartoon where they were mice – so why not! After all no one’s seen one, right?

The challenge at Passion for ProMarkers was to use Emerald and Marine….BUT you had to make anything but a card.

Usually these words would send me running from the room screaming. However it didn’t this time because on the very same morning the Fairy Friends set by Pink Cat Studio dropped through my letter box.Plus I remembered some Christmas tins I’d hoarded in the cupboard:

Tooth tin 001

Now,my youngest hasn’t lost any teeth yet so it seemed the perfect opportunity to make something nice to put them in when the time arose.

I waded through my stash to find all I needed to put this together.I chose some more lovely K & Co paper from the huge pad.

Toothtin003

This reminded me of water lily flowers and pads as well as the dotted jump lines that are sometimes added to cartoon frogs.I also stamped out some smiley teeth from the same stamp sheet, shaded with a litte Tulip Yellow, coated with Sakura Glaze pen and placed four around the sides of the tin.I had some fancy Anita’s Sticky Ribbon from a kit when I first started cardmaking so put that round the lid rim.I used some Papermania Textured card and that I felt was a pretty close match for the Marine pen to mount the image and the tag which was attached with a Papermania brad in a matching colour.Circles are cut with Nestabilities.Tag cut by hand.

Toothtin005

Next I created a poem on the computer to decorate the inside of the lid and filled the gap with another tooth.’Scuse the words I made this up myself(as you can probably tell).

As well as the two specified colours I used I managed to sneak in some Tulip Yellow from the new colours(it had to be done) and some  Metallic Gold to edge the tag and topper.Becase the tin was silver I also changed any parts that showed to gold using a Pilot permanent marker.Inside there is also a shredded emerald green nest of tissue paper(didn’t want to bore you with a photo of that).

Here’s a final pic to get the over all effect:

Toothtin004

I haven’t told him yet but because of all the work involved I don’t want him to squash it under his pillow. When the time comes I’ll persuade him that it will be better seen by the side of his bed.

Autumn Birthday

autumnbirthday005

I made this card for my youngest sons’ birthday at the end of this month.  And here’s the inside:autumnbirthday003

All stamped images are Sugar Nellie Stamps Home Grown Autumn Kit 2009 at Funky Kits.Coloured with Promarkers.

Every leaf has painstakingly been cut out.Only the kind of lengths I would go to for somebody I love very much!Know it sounds strange for a cardmaker but I really loathe cutting out!?!

Patterened paper on the front of the card is from a ginormous pad by K & Co that was a recent TSV on QVC.The plaid paper is a freebie from Canon Creative Park.Verse is printed from My Verse Editor Plus by Crafty Ideas by Kaz.Walnut rub-on wax has been applied to the edges of the papers and stamped image and sentiment.A Tim Holtz Distressing Tool has also been used on these.

This was intended to be an entry for the Sandstone and Blue Pearl challenge at Passion for Promarkers last week but with one thing and another it didn’t quite make it 😦

Doubling up

passionforpromarkers002

21pspCB12thSwpt

I made this card for the Willow Sketchie Challenge at Craftbubble this week. The twist was to use paper weaving  somewhere on your project. As the challenge at Passion for ProMarkers was to use any colours but to include polka dots I thought I would combine the two.

Apart from making placemats at school I’ve not done too much paper weaving.Something I’d seen on other people’s cards, thought it looked fab and never got round to trying.Because the DT cards and other entries had used it in a variety of ways I wanted to do it a little differently. So I opted to just edge the spotty background paper and the image.

Here are the pens I used:

passion for promarkers 005

Except for Ivory and Blush for the skin tones and a small amount of Silver Metallic I’ve used a selection of new colours.Yes I’ve been a bad girl.My halo hasn’t just slipped it’s hit the floor with a resounding clang!Oh well what’s money for if it’s not to waste spend on crafting goodies?

All papers are Basic Grey Archiac including the piece the Cute Character is stamped onto.As are the stickers. His tools and two pieces of  sticker waste (from my previous project) are coloured with the Silver pen.I then added crosses to create screw heads – well maybe if you squint and use a lot of imagination!!

Third time lucky!

winnie00416pspCB22nd%20August

I really can’t believe it!I won for a third time last week on Willow Sketchie Challenge at Craftbubble.

For this card I stamped Winnie Shopping onto a Nestabilities Classic Oval minus the two flowers that usually sit under her right wing. She is available at Willow Designs.I coloured with Promarkers then added some Stardust pen to her eyelids and beads on her bag.Eyes are whitened with gel pen.

I decided to cut the rectangle and oval in one piece using Core’dinations White Wash card.First I created a frame using Nesties then trimmed round half the oval.Next I passed it through my Big Shot using the Cuttlebug Textile embossing folder.I lightly sanded it to reveal the lilac colour underneath.I repeated this on some Sizzix corner dies. The papers are Making Memories.Greeting is from Kiki Kitty set by Pink Cat Studios.

The paper roses( anyone remember the song?) are my first attempt at making these.A fellow ‘Bubbler posted instructions so I thought I’d try my hand.I added punched leaves made from white card coloured green with Promarkers.

Halloween in August!

Halloween001

Most cardmakers are familiar with the term ‘Christmas in July’ but this week at Passion for ProMarkers the colours Pumpkin and Prussian were to be used in conjunction with a Halloween theme.

This is where panic set in.I don’t own any Halloween stamps and I didn’t want the expense of buying something I would never use again.I was going to adapt some other stamps I had but it didn’t quite work 😦

A couple of people kindly suggested finding images on the internet. But I had already decided that I would try and draw something.

So I drew a Jack-o-Lantern wearing a hat.Having already worked out a computer generated greeting I went for a jolly looking one rather than scary.I drew in pencil onto Papermania textured card followed by a Letraset Fineliner, rubbed out any pencil lines and set to work with my trusty Promarkers.Apart from the two challenge colours I added some texture with a Blender pen.To give extra dimension I cut the image out and mounted on some more of the same card using foam tape and went round the edges with Cool Grey 1.

The papers are free downloads from Canon Creative Park.A Woodware Seagull punch made the decorative corners before eyelets were added with a Crop-o Dile. The font is called Deathnote from a Manga series of the same name.

I don’t know what anyone else thinks but I was quite pleased with how the drawing turned out. This is the first time I’ve drawn anything for years.

I  can see why this theme was set as it works fantastically with this colour combo.

I do have to add that the Prussian does actually look blue here whereas IRL it takes on a much deeper purple shade which the papers compliment more.

Tea Anyone?

rosepinkandcocoa003

A rather last minute entry for the  Cocoa and Rose Pink challenge at Passion for ProMarkers.

Made using one of my new Sugar Nellie  stamps  from Funky Kits. This one is called Cup of Tea by Leanne Ellis Designs.Papers are Making Memories.Paper flowers, brad and charm from stash and a Sizzix die cut swirl.I didn’t have the right kind of green card so is has been coloured with Moss Promarker. The greeting is from Hero Arts Dolls set stamped and layered up in co-ordinating card.

The pens I used are:Cocoa,Rose Pink,Blossom,Sandstone,Cinnamon,Ivory,Blush and Moss.
