Life’s a picnic – No Josh-in’

It’s Crafty Sentiments Designs New Releases Day 5 Preview.There will be 5 fantastic new rubber stamps over at Crafty Sentiments Designs on 25th February.

Here’s a little sneak peek of Josh – Picnic.Such a great image with those warmer months approaching and a good all rounder too – there’s so much scope with this.I’ve coloured him with Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers and gone for a pretty rustic,woodsy feel to my card.Lots of kraft,distressed edges,raffia lace ribbon,wooden button threaded with jute twine,a cluster of die cut greenery and….a squashed bottle cap!Well,a beer one to be precise.Hubby donates me quite a few of these so I put them to a better purpose 🙂

Game On!

I coloured up Video Game Guy by Bugaboo Stamps with Copic Ciao Markers and added in some white gel pen hightlights.I was lucky to find these papers in an after Christmas sale at my local craft warehouse.I just knew they’d come in handy!The red spotty bracket piece and orange star border are die cuts from the same pad.I dug out some lime coloured card to coordinate with it and added a sprinkling of star brads.The sentiment I made using my Dymo Embossing Labelmaker.This one is quite fancy in the fact that it has interchangeable wheels with different fonts and punctuation marks.BUT it wasn’t until I started clicking away that I realised there wasn’t an apostrophe.Oooops….hence the asterisk or little star I prefer to call it.It ties in better with the card that way 😛

After having my 13-year-old son at home last week for half-term this seems quite apt!Mind you,this is for his Birthday…in December!Nothing like being prepared 😀

Here’s the pretty Annabel – Let’s Dance by Crafty Sentiments Designs.She’s all coloured up in Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers.For the spots on her dress and highlights in her eyes I’ve swapped my usual Gelly Roll pen for a Soufflé instead to make them stand out more.The easel card has been die cut from some Worn Lipstick Core’dinations and matted with some freebie magazine paper that tones in beautifully.I’ve even applied some of the coordinating Distress Ink around Annabel,leaving her in the Nestie to create the white border to add a little pop 🙂 The tiny gem topped flowers were saved from the punched strips.The freebie stamp set sentiment has also had ink rubbed around the edge whilst still in the die.The ribbon was chosen to bring out the green in the paper.

I’ve taken this little piggy from the Party Animals set by Deedee’s Digis and decided he would make a great Yo-Yo Spinner Card using a tutorial on Splitcoast Stampers.That’s why there’s a thread with a button dangling  from under his chin.Bet you were wondering,eh? 😉 When you pull the string his head spins!

Bit difficult to capture in stills but this may give you the gist of it :

And here’s how it ends up once it’s unravelled completely and his head is back to where it began :

 

 

These are great for kids – or husbands!Kind of equates to the same thing in most cases 😛

My goodness,there’s so much in this set!Three images in various uncoloured and coloured forms,three 6 x 6 papers and four sentiments!I’ve coloured up the pig with Copic Ciao Markers and I’ve used two of the papers with some complementary purple card from my stash.I really thought this style of card would go so well with those fabby sentiments!Ideally I would’ve loved to have added another orange button to the border at the top but I only had one so chose a matching one in purple instead.The black thread is recycled from some clothing price labels 🙂

A sign you’re getting old?!

I just couldn’t resist the cheeky Cartoon Brontosaurus Dinosaur Holding a Sign by Ken Benner Designs.He’s been printed out onto Desert Storm Kraft Card and coloured with Spectrum Noir Pencils along with some white gel pen.All edges have been Distress inked and roughed up with a Paper Distresser.The snake skin strip is actually a piece of an old belt,trimmed to fit the card.This will be a Birthday card for my Hubby.Not that I’m saying he’s getting old LOL 😛

So with Valentine’s Day looming closer I thought I’d pick (no pun intended – well,maybe a little) the delightful Roses Are Red by Crafty Sentiments Designs .Coloured up with Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers.The young lady has been given a little more blush to her cheeks than I usually add as I felt she was a bit coy at this romantic gesture.Now if it were me I think I would pass out with sheer shock if my DH presented me with a red rose!I tried not to make this too girly as this will actually be for him.Altho’ I say that…a flowery patterned paper magically appeared along with a rose embossed border and some ribbon – but at least it’s navy blue 😛 As I’m just a teensy bit fussy I die cut the card base from a regular 8 x 8 card blank then overlaid it with a matching die cut piece of textured card so that I got the whole shape.Personally I just don’t like those missed/straight bits when doing it myself.Because I grabbed the sentiment from a set that was to hand and as I felt it was on the small side I added a heart shaped brad underneath.By my own admission this is a lazy way to add a design feature but it works 😉

Here’s the beautiful Fairy Sitting on a Toadstool  by Aurora Wings .But then all Mitzi’s images are beautiful 😉 So…I bought some Crafter’s Companion Spectrum Noir Pencils way before Christmas and in my usual style they’ve been sat in a box – until now that is!To be fair this is the first card I’ve made in a long while as my computer took a turn for the worse and crashed.Feeling quite pleased that with some help from my thirteen-year-old son we managed to set it back to factory settings and got it running again I really wasn’t prepared for it to go and die completely within a week 😦 So now I’m left with the headache of finding someone reputable to fix it…For now I’ve got loan of DH’s laptop.Wish he’d cleaned it before he let me borrow it tho’ !Urgh!

Anyway back to the card…I printed her out on Crafter’s Companion Neenah Desert Storm Card bought specifically for the purpose of trying out my new pencils.I did buy a ton of it (well maybe not quite) as my local craft warehouse had a whopping 30% off!The fairy and toadstools were coloured just using the pencils to merge the different colour tones together.For the grass,foliage and sky I was a bit more scribbly and blended it out with the Blending Soloution and a large paper stump.Have to say I was impressed at how the sky blended out as I was a bit worried the scratchy strokes would still show but,nah,they’re really not there! 😛 So I was quite pleased at my first proper go with these but,as always,there’s room for improvement!
