A place in the sun(flowers)

I wanted to try something a bit different with the adorable Molly – Sunflowers by Crafty Sentiments Designs.After mulling over a few gardening related ideas I thought about making a flower pot and adding in some handmade sunflowers.I found a great video here to create a wood effect planter type.She does omit the measurements for the main body of the pot but I figured out it needed to be 11cm high and the length of an A4 piece of card.She also uses a wood panel stamp but not having one I embossed with a folder instead and rubbed ink over it.I would have preferred to use my woodgrain embossing folder but as it’s still AWOL I made do with this one :S I added in some greenery as a filler cut from an icicle die and made up my sunflowers from yellow card after inking them and folding the petals for more dimension.The stems are some re-purposed round lolly sticks coloured to match the grass and leaves.The sunflower centres are buttons threaded with jute button thread and I tied a thicker piece of the same type of twine around the outside for a rustic feel.Molly was coloured with Copic Ciao Markers then fussy cut before being popped up on foam tape for dimension.There all done and it was quite easy to construct too – a huge bonus in my book 😀

Madison ‘blings’ on the love

Just look at the love going on between Madison N Toby by Oddball Art.They’ve been coloured up with Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers.I die cut an 8 x 8 card blank to create the shape then covered and layered with these pretty papers.I finally managed to find my bow die that I’d been disappointed to have mislaid for so long.So it’s been put in it’s rightful place in my overflowing DJ CD flight case 🙂 I cut and added the strip to the right of the image to give the impression that it’s wrapped and tied.The sentiment has been die cut and matted onto a piece of paper to match the paper ribbon and blinged up all the way around.A large gem from the same set has been placed atop of the bow.I have so many gems…well all manner of embellishments,really…that I really need to make more use of them.Anyway this shall be another card for my DD2’s birthday in October.She loves our dog so much and our girl loves her right back.Actually she loves everybody – even complete strangers!If she can’t accost people in the street for a cuddle she lurks in the window to greet them with a smile and a wag of her tail.Yes,she does actually smile 🙂 Altho’ people who don’t know her find her quite scary.There are some folks I don’t explain her actions to i.e. double glazing and other salespeople that turn up uninvited on my doorstep!!I let them think she’s a ferocious beast – even tho’ she’s the daftest,softest,friendliest,most beautiful girl 😀

Here she is relaxing in her favourite seat in the house.It’s also my DH’s so they have to jostle for pole position.I bet you can tell who wins! :

The challenge at Crafty Sentiments this week is Mother’s Day.Drop on by to join in the fun and be in with the chance of winning a super prize.Don’t forget to take a look at some fabulous inspiration by the talented DT while you’re there.

As soon as I saw the delightful Butterfly Friends by Crafty Sentiments Designs I knew I wanted to make something special with her (or at least I hope that’s what I’ve managed to do?!).I found this fantastic tutorial on how to make a Cupcake Gift Purse/Box on From My Craft Room and another to make a Faux Cupcake as a little gift to go inside :

The instructions called for a styrofoam ball or some florists foam but as I didn’t have either to hand I trimmed down a segment from a Cadbury’s Egg ‘n’ Spoon  carton.This also kind of cut the middle man out as in the directions it showed to adhere the flowers in place,holding them with a pin until the glue dried.I just took the pins and after colouring the pearl tops with a Copic Marker stuck the flowers where I wanted them,filling any gaps with leaves.As this is glued into the case and it won’t be handled by small children I’m sure nobody will get hurt 😉 I have a big pot of these pins so it’s not like I’m going to miss any 😛 I also took one and added a metal butterfly spacer bead.

I coloured up Butterfly Friends with Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers,trying to capture a furry feel,before fussy cutting and positioning her on the front.This was a lot of fun to make and altho’ it looked a little daunting it really wasn’t that difficult 😀

Here’s Charles Bear – Just Relax by Crafty Sentiments Designs all coloured up with Polychromos Pencils to add some texture to his fur and the wooden tub his bathing in.A few white gel pen highlights have been thrown into the mix along with some gloss to the bubbles and spilt water.I chose some First Edition papers that reminded me of wallpaper patterns along with a woodgrain one from another set.I was going to use an embossing folder of the same pattern but it seems to have gone AWOL!A Gromlet – or Wallace & Gromlet as I like to call them 😉 – and some hairy twine (always good for hairy men’s cards) have been added.Just love these alaphabet stamps 😀 Well,that’s another Father’s Day card ready.
