Shakin’ Owl Over!

itdbk24thmay

Here’s my second Guest Designer card for Imagine That!Digis by Kris! at their Creative Playground Challenge for this month. The theme is Time for a Sketch and it runs from May 7th – June 3rd.Stop on by the blog to check out all the wonderful inspiration there!

This time I’ve followed the sketch as it is.As Birthday Bash KD Kit by Imagine That!Digis by Kris is so much fun I thought I’d carry on that flavour by adding a shaker element- not just any old shaker element,a bingo card one at that!Once I’d prepared it I filled it with lovely, shiny sequins 🙂 I printed the cute pre-coloured owl also from the set, fussy cut and added 3D Crystal Lacquer to eyes to make them even more googly!I layered the sentiment digitally onto the brad using Word and coated that with 3D Crystal Lacquer also (even if the camera has failed to pick it up).The chevron paper was selected from the kit to match my little owl friend.I hand cut three banner strips and added brads to them just for a little extra touch. The band across the top was embossed to create interest. It was a real joy working with this set 🙂

At Craft Your Passion the challenges are Always Anything Goes!We have the fabulous Sami Stamps as our sponsor too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.

I just had to play with the most amusing Funny Frog by Sami Stamps 😀 He’s been coloured up with Copic Ciao Markers, including the Blender to create some texture to his frog skin, and to add to the fun he had to have a coating of 3D Crystal Lacquer on his glasses along with a furry moustache,to make it more tactile.I did have to wrack my brains on how to bring the idea to reality. In my stash I had some Polar White Flower Soft but that wasn’t the colour I wanted his ‘tache to be…So I pulled out some Terracotta Posh Impressions Rainbow Ink that I’ve had for ages and added a couple of drops, stirred with a cocktail stick in a medicine measuring cup!Once it was dry it was stuck into place with some dries clear PVA.Cut a shaped easel for the base and added these papers that I bought quite a few Summer’s ago in a sale.I fussy cut him and plonked him on top of an embossed and die cut piece. The sentiment has been computer generated and cut into a banner shape with some paper twine wrapped around one end.I added some Shimmer Dots that were originally silver to decorate but out came a coordinating Copic Ciao to transform them! This is for my DD1 who has recently move into a new home with a couple of her friends whilst she’s at uni.

A place in the sun(flowers)

The challenge at Crafty Sentiments this week is Anything But a Card.Drop on by to join in the fun and be in with the chance of winning a super prize.Don’t forget to take a look at some fabulous inspiration by the talented DT while you’re there.

I wanted to try something a bit different with the adorable Molly – Sunflowers by Crafty Sentiments Designs. After mulling over a few gardening related ideas I thought about making a flower pot and adding in some handmade sunflowers.I found a great video here to create a wood effect planter type. She does omit the measurements for the main body of the pot but I figured out it needed to be 11cm high and the length of an A4 piece of card. She also uses a wood panel stamp but not having one I embossed with a folder instead and rubbed ink over it.I would have preferred to use my woodgrain embossing folder but as it’s still AWOL I made do with this one :S I added in some greenery as a filler cut from an icicle die and made up my sunflowers from yellow card after inking them and folding the petals for more dimension. The stems are some re-purposed round lolly sticks coloured to match the grass and leaves. The sunflower centres are buttons threaded with jute button thread and I tied a thicker piece of the same type of twine around the outside for a rustic feel.Molly was coloured with Copic Ciao Markers then fussy cut before being popped up on foam tape for dimension. There all done and it was quite easy to construct too – a huge bonus in my book 😀

Gift of the Gab :)

jsldt5thapril

It’s the beginning of a another new challenge at Just Some Lines. This month we’re looking forward to seeing your Think Spring creations. To play along you need to use a Just Some Lines image to enter and you could win a digi if you’re picked as part of the Top 3 🙂

Here’s the beautiful Gab – Just Gab by Just Some Lines .Doesn’t she look like she’s enjoying Spring?!  I thought I’d brush up (pun intended!) on my watercolouring skills – or lack of them 😉 The purpose of the exercise was supposed to be practising with Distress Inks but as I pulled the boxes out the cupboard I found my AquaMarkers. To think I’d actually forgotten I had them!So out they came to play. The beauty of these is when it came to the fine detail I just used the pens to fill it in.No worrying about going over the lines or bleeding into what’s already painted.I did actually blend out a little on her headband and ribbons with out having to change to a smaller brush 🙂 Not really sure how it turned out but Gab’s that pretty I’m sure it doesn’t matter 😉 For the card I just layered up these gorgeous papers that I try not use too much, cutting and embossing a frame  for her,and adding some piercing details to the papers. The sentiment on the stamped and die cut button seemed pretty apt 🙂 Some baker’s twine and buttons have been used to decorate.

Supplies :

At Craft Your Passion this week the challenge is Birthday Bonanza! We have the fabulous Heather Ellis as our sponsor too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.

I’ve decided to try and take a different approach with my card making recently.Rather than the usual patterned paper matted and layered onto coordinating card for the background etc…Soooo what’s the first thing I do here?Mat a piece of patterned paper onto the card blank :s Still at least I took the time to hand stitch with some baker’s twine. And then I did  do something unusual, well for me at least 😉 This lil’ cutie is Pure Innocence 013 by Heather Ellis and you can find her by scrolling down the page a little.Heather also has a bit of a sale going on and some of her delightful images are as little as 50p!Anyways she’s been coloured with Graph’It Markers and is wearing a paper pieced dress. This has also been given some depth with a Graph’It Marker. Now for the diverse part…I’ve created this frame piece by die cutting an oval to fit the image, embossing  some textured card with some loverly spots.Because my folder wasn’t long enough to cover it entirely I chose to lay it across the other way and centre it.Now what to do about those plain ends?Punch ’em!Now what to do about those pesky lines where the folder ended?Pierce ’em!Opted not to stitch them as well…gives a cleaner look. Then I positioned it over the top and adhered it using thin (1mm) foam tape. The little banners poking out the side were cut from another sheet of paper from the same pack.To finish I took an Epiphany Craft Epoxy Self-Adhesive Button and lay it over a yet another piece of paper from the same  collection. No prizes for guessing it had buttons printed all over it!As I’m too tight wise and frugal to part with 20 quid (!) for a matching punch I just made sure it stuck down well and trimmed round with some decoupage scissors, followed by a pokey tool to make the holes 🙂

He’s  The Boy & The Dog 003.The colouring is with Graph’It Markers and altho’ it doesn’t show up the puddle has a coating of  3D Crystal Lacquer.I’ve also sponged a little ink around to take the witness off the background. This time I cut the card blank down them made the topper fit the length of the original size of the card. I kind of used the same principle  with the embossing folder and aperture ‘cept this folder covered the whole area.I added two handcut banners to the base.Once I’d inked the edges for  extra definition they were attached and I ran down the side with an EK Success Piercing Bug in a wobbly fashion then cross stitched to compliment the pattern in the paper.I die cut a couple of clouds and inked their bottoms….careful!…lol… XD A sentiment was cut from another piece of paper (as in the above card). Some of the edges were distressed and I added piercing to the scalloped edge 🙂

At Craft Your Passion this week the challenge is Spots & Stripes. We have the fabulous Bugaboo Stamps  as our sponsor too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.

I’ve taken the most adorable Bugaboo Brats Bugs – Girl Bee by Bugaboo Stamps and coloured her up with Graph’It Markers. The flower and bobbly bits on the end of her antennae (yeah, technical I know!) have had added sparkle from a Gold Glitter Shake Marker. After shading her wings, pulling the colour out for a softer look with the Graph’It Blender Pen,I coated them in Rock Candy Distress Crackle Paint.

Here’s a closer look :

cypdt27thjancloseup 001

The rest of the card has been kept fairly simple with hexagonal die cuts of spotty & stripey papers.I placed a greeting on top of one. This actually comes from Bees – Birthday from Bugaboo Stamps but I thought it would work well here too 🙂 I’ve added some tiny black gems to her eyes, also to the ‘i’ and exclamation mark.I can’t take credit for the idea tho’.This is just the type of detail that the inspirational and super talented Bonnie, with whom I have the pleasure of working alongside at Craft Your Passion, adds – and I usually forget!LOL XD….To complete the card I’ve stretched a length of ribbon across the bottom threaded on a chipboard button.Have to admit yellow isn’t a colour I usually go for but it suits this gal perfectly 🙂

Voo-doo you think lives here?

jsldt26thoct 001

This is the last week of the Happy Boo To You challenge at Just Some Lines.Wow!Can’t  believe that’s another month over!To play along you need to use a Just Some Lines image to enter and you could win a fantastic digi stamp if you’re picked as part of the Top 3!

So,I made a cute little house for this little fella to reside in 🙂 He’s called Voodoo Doll by Just Some Lines and he’s been coloured with Copic Ciao Markers.I coated his button eyes and the watch face with 3D Crystal Lacquer. After researching on the ‘net I found that they aren’t always used for bad things as they lead us to believe in films and on the telly. Some other info showed that they can come in different colours or the pins can be coloured too to mean a variety of things.I went with coloured pins. His home is actually a template for a sweet Gingerbread house that I found in Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine so adapted it to accommodate some Halloween  sweets. The sides have been embossed with a folder and the roof has been scored for a tiled effect.I also trimmed the edges with deckle decorative edge scissors. An inverted scallop die has been used to frame the aperture and some punched fencing has been used to surround his property.

Supplies :

At Craft Your Passion this week the challenge is Heavy Metal. We have the fabulous Stamping Dragon and The Robin’s Nest as our sponsors too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.

For my card I’ve used the sweet Penny’s Pudding by Stamping Dragon and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers.I then cut her out and added her to the holly embossed piece of kraft card, which has the bottom corners rounded, using foam tape for dimension.I then adhered this to a card blank which I also rounded the bottom corners of.I laid a couple of strips of washi tape across the top.I die cut some holly leaves and topped this with a button threaded with baker’s twine. The sentiment has been stamped in red ink then clear heat embossed. This way you don’t have to worry about stray flecks too much 🙂  A 1″ punch fits this greeting well,so no fiddling about to cut it out.I did ink the edges with the same ink pad to give a better finish as this card has a white core.

Eye’m waiting for Halloween

jsldt5thoct

This month’s challenge at Just Some Lines is Halloween. To play along you need to use a Just Some Lines image to enter and you could win a fantastic digi stamp if you’re picked as part of the Top 3!

I had so much fun making this!!I chose to make a shaped card to go with the rather creepy Waiting – Skeleton by Just Some Lines. He’s been coloured with Copic Ciao Markers then fussy cut so that I could add him to this die cut tombstone card.I always like to cover the front of shaped cards with another die cut panel to hide the folded edge. This gave me the opportunity to have a good, messy play too!!I started by embossing the piece to give it some texture then sanded it to create a pitted, weather worn feel.I wanted to deboss the lettering as if were were really carved into the stone. Now this was a learning curve – but I did it 😀 I cut the letters from some scrap chipboard then stacked them 3 deep, gluing of course 😉 Next came the hardest part of figuring out how to make the perfect sandwich in my Big Shot and astounded myself by getting it right first time!To enhance the effect I ran a ProMarker inside and followed with a black pen where I thought the extra shadowing should be.Onto the lichen next…I wanted this to be pretty realistic but having only Polar White Flower Soft was a bit of a hurdle.Remembering I had some inks tucked away in a drawer I tipped a little Flower Soft into a small pot and dropped some Yellow plus a couple of drops of Butterscotch for a more natural appearance, smooshing it around with my finger to make sure it all got coated.Whilst this was drying I inked round the edges of my tombstone then cut, sanded and inked the ivy.The grass at the bottom is actually the leftover from the ivy trimmed down, sanded, inked etc… I adhered my little skele friend (or should that be fiend?) and using clear drying PVA added my lichen, trying to emulate how it would normally grow. There I’m done!!

And just in case you think it’s a little early to start thing about All Hallow’s Eve here’s a glimpse of what was in my garden the foggy other day just to get you in the mood….

spiders 002 spiders 004

Spooky,eh?When I think of all the money I’ve spent on decorations….lol….

It’s OK there aren’t any spiders visible in these pics….I left those ones out deliberately…. 🙂
