The theme for this weeks challenge at Craft Your Passion is MONOCHROMATIC.The colour choice is yours – just create away in your chosen tones.
For rules on how to play click on the link. You could also become the proud owner of some free digital stamps if you’re chosen as the winner! There’s some beautiful inspiration from the DT and GDT.If you’d like to join us as a guest please look under the Followers at the top of the page.
For my card I’ve used the Couture image from CoCoDingo, coloured it with Promarkers and applied Distress Inks around the edges. I then coated the whole image in a fairly thick layer of Crackle Accents.Because this is quite a decent area to cover I gently spread it out with a plastic glue spreader – you know the type kiddies use (what that says about me I don’t know?!).As this isn’t as thick as Glossy Accents it tends to dry flatter and with the crackle effect it doesn’t really show any drag marks.Once it was dry I sponged some Antique Linen Distress Ink into the cracks then buffed off the excess with a soft tissue.Wish I’d taken a close up pic but too late I’ve posted it now!I just love these Papermania Persimmon papers and I got it at a discount too – so even better!I thought there would be nothing better to finish this off than with some threaded buttons, lace, pins and a sewing label. This is actually part of a free printable set from Craft Stamper Magazine. There are lots of other Vintage Downloads too.Just click on Resources and then Vintage Downloads.

Tags: Bag-O-Buttons, Creative Expressions, K & Co, Martha Stewart, Memento, Nellie's Multi Frame Dies, Papermania, Pear Tree Designs, Sam Poole, Sizzix, X-Cut

At Pear Tree Designs this week we’d love to see your COLOURFUL card/projects.As always we have a fabulous sponsor,Cardmadfairy’s Creations who’s very generously offering the prize of 4 x Christmas Digital Images for one lucky person!!
So don’t wait any longer.Pay the challenge site a visit for full rules on how to play and to see some inspiration from the wonderful DT creations.
We all need a little colour in our lives to escape this dreary, grey November weather.Well,I suppose it depends what part of the world you’re in,but it’s definitely dark and dismal where I live. The only good thing about the darker evenings is being able to crank up the heating and cosy down in front of the fire.OK so it’s not a real one but it has some fake coal and a realistic flame – near enough for me !.My parents had a real open fire and it was great at Christmas/Family gatherings or even if we paid them a visit during the cold Winter. So warm and inviting. That is if you could feel any heat through the dogs who lay in front of it absorbing every last centigrade into their thick, shaggy coats!!Why did they need to do that?!
Anyway enough of tripping down memory lane.Back to the card.
As soon as I saw the new Button Floral and Buttons stamp plates by Sam Poole I had to have them! Now,I love ALL my crafty goodies dearly but buttons hold a very special place in my heart.Don’t know what it is about them. One thing I do know is I have hundreds of them – literally!I’m always torn between using them or keeping them to myself,so by using these beautiful stamps I’ll be able to share my passion of buttons.Or so the theory goes!
I have to admit I wasn’t sure if my card was colourful enough as I’m a bit of a colour coordination freak but I’m pleased how it turned out.
But shock horror NO Promarkers!!
** Here’s my Top Tip : Give shape to hand cut, punched or die cut flowers by placing them face up on a foam mat then emboss the centres using circular motions with a large ball tool(6mm).Then turn over and repeat the embossing on the petals. If neccessary turn over and go over the centres again.I keep a bar of soap (unused!) to hand, rub some on my finger then run my ball tool over it to help it glide across the paper.**
Supplies :
Flowers and sentiment : Buttons Floral stamp plate by Sam Poole from Creative Expressions
Mediums : Memento Dew Drop inks in Lady Bug and Rose Bud
Card & Paper : DP K & Co,coloured card Papermania A4 Capsule Textured Colossal pack
Tools : X-Cut guillotine,Siesta Large Corner Rounder Punch,Martha Stewart Zig Zag Edger Punch,Nellie’s Multi Frame Dies Ovals 2,Big Shot,Decoupage scissors,Large (6mm) Ball Tool,Foam mat,bar of soap (helps the Ball Tool run smoothly over paper/card when hand embossing)
Embellishments : Bag-O-Buttons by Autumn Leaves in Whirligig,Ribbon from a £1 pack from The Works

Rainbow Lady’s Challenge : Edge it
Paper Romance : Some of your favourite things (buttons, stamping, flowers, the Zig Zag punch, ribbon)

For my card I’ve used one of the newer images from Digi Doodle Shop. She’s called Fairy in Flight and as soon as I saw her I knew I wanted to create something with her – she’s so beautiful.Initially I was going to use her as a Christmas fairy. But I’m SO not ready for Christmas I decided instead to make a girly card for my niece’s birthday.I cut up to parts of her using a metal ruler and craft knife, then cut around the rest that I wanted to hang over the edge with decoupage scissors.Like a kind of manual version of the ‘Out-of-the-box’ technique using Nesties.I coloured her with Promarkers and added Glamour Dust to her wings.I hope you agree that she looks ‘fairy beautiful’!

The challenge this week at Craft Your Passion is to make a DIAMOND FOLD CARD.This style of card is so much fun and they are actually quite easy to make – well, they’ve got to be if I can make one!As with any folding technique it’s just a case of being as accurate as you can and creating sharp creases. It also folds flat to a 4″ x 4″ square so it fits in an envelope beautifully.
In case you are unfamiliar with these or you’ve never thought you could attempt one I prepared a tutorial for our DT and any challenge entrants to follow :
DIAMOND FOLD CARD TUTORIAL
There, you have no excuse not to now!!
If you’re not sure about any of the steps feel free to ask me a question and I’ll do my best to answer it.
Of,course this is just one type. There are others,so if you know any feel free to enter those too.BUT it must be a FOLD not just diamond shaped pieces of card on a regular card base.
For details on how to win some fabulous digi stamps and how to play along please click on the link to the challenge site. Please take the time to have a look at the DT and GDT’s amazing creations too.You could also become a GDT too.Just click on the link under the Followers.
My card base is created from a sheet of cardstock from the DCWV Old World stack .I coveted this for a long while and was lucky enough to find it half price. That was almost a year ago and I can’t bear to use it!!I’m so glad I did for this tho’.It compliments this sweet Choupintette Swing image from CoCo Dingo Digital Stamps perfectly.I used a square topper but you could mat and layer diamond pieces.I chose not to because I’m rubbish at cutting the angles right!!There,my secret is out – it wasn’t some kind of clever design plan after all.
Supplies :
Image : Choupinette Swing from CoCo Dingo Digital Stamps
Mediums : Promarkers ,Bundle Sage Distress Ink (applied with a piece cut from the non green side of a pan scouring sponge to give a textured finish)
Cardstock : Patterned base DCWV 12 x 12 Old World stack,Pale blue Papermania A4 Capsule Textured Colossal pack
Tools : X-Cut guillotine,X-Cut metal ruler,Woodware bone folder,A3 cutting mat,pencil and eraser
Embellishments : Length of white satin ribbon coloured with Promarkers to match,Gems from the Crafts Too Cool Series Acrylic Stones Gem Wheel
Some challenges this card is entered for :
Challenge Up Your Life : Blue & Green
Cute Card Thursday : Anything Goes
Digital Tuesday : Use your “never used stash” (Old World stack)
Dutch Dare : Clean & Simple
Fairy Tale Challenge : Everything Goes
Inktegrity : Ribbons & Flowers
Little Red Wagon : Do it in 3’s (Gems)
Moving Along With The Times : Nice & Bright
Stamp Something : November Digi Day
Stampotique : Girly Girl
Wee Memories : Dust off that patterned paper
The Pixie Cottage : Two colours only (optional sketch)
Pattie’s Creations : Create a Birthday card
Paper Sundaes : Pick at least two from the Sundae Toppings Bar (blue & ribbon)
OSAAT : Your Fave Colour (mine’s more of a combo.Just love blue & green tho’ they never should be seen!I’m like that – he,he!)
Top Tip Tuesday : Use an image/sentiment
** My Top Tip is actually contained in my Diamond Fold Card Tutorial. When creating a fold without using a score board place a metal ruler where you want it to be,use the grid on your cutting mat to make sure everything’s straight, then fold the card in towards the edge of the ruler. To make a really sharp crease use a bone folder, checking that all edges are lined up first. This should give you perfect results every time.**

I’ve coloured him using Promarkers and inked around the edges with Distress Inks to give an aged effect.I roughed up and inked all the edges on the other layers too to keep the theme going.I found the perfect papers to accompany him in my stash.Unfortunately it was the last sheet and they’re no longer made 😦 The crackle effect one in the background has been embossed for a different look.I’ve not tried this on patterned paper before and I like it !I also got the opportunity to use my newly acquired Rectangles 2 Nellie’s Multi Frame Dies !! I decided to go for two images so I could do double the colouring!I then came upon the idea of making a step ladder card so they could stand either end.A bit like china dogs on a mantlepiece – does anyone remember them?!I resized and horizontally flipped the image in Paint before printing a second time.I used the template from here but instead of drawing the lines in pencil I used my Fiskars Euro trimmer to cut and score them instead. I ‘constructed’ the doghouse myself.I run a piece of cardstock through my Big Shot using the Cuttlebug Distressed Stripe folder then cut the pieces, including the little diamond detail, and adhered them together using PVA glue.I cut a piece of black card rounding the top to make the doorway. Not sure if they’ll mind sharing tho’ ?To complete the scene I simply used some blue and green papers to create sky and grass. It doesn’t show in the pic but I did use Glossy Accents on their noses to give a healthy wet look.I put a thick layer on to add dimension too.I dabbed the nozzle on the tongues to give a shiny, wet look but so that it dried flat.
