Pretty sad and pretty good

wscdt31stjan 001

The Willow Sketchie DT got some pretty sad news this week.Sharon Armstrong, the owner of Willow Designs, had to make the difficult decision to close her online shop. But there is some good news to follow….Those who may be familiar with Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine will know Sharon appears regularly as a designer. She will be continuing to work with this magazine and will be continuing to design one way or another. And the shop won’t be closing immediately so you can still drop by and pick up some crafty goodies – especially as all clear stamps and CD-roms are half price.

Which brings it back to the challenge blog…Well,Kelly our lovely DT Coordinator has decided to keep the challenges going. The basic sketch/theme format will remain the same but there will be lots of exciting changes made. The first being the name.As from Monday we will be known as Digi Sketch Challenge . I hope our regulars from the old challenges will continue to support the new venture and that we will get some lovely new players too 🙂 So please join us to find out all the info!

So onto my card.As there is no challenge this week this a Thank You to Sharon and to our dedicated followers at Willow Sketchie Challenges.I’ve used Butterfly & Daisy Digital Stamp by Willow Designs   and coloured it with some pearlescent watercolour paints. The papers are First Edition Family Ties and the shimmery card is Trimcraft 12 x 12 pearlescent Textured card.I’ve used a large corner rounder on the right hand corners and an extra small one on the sentiment tab.The With Thanks stamp is a past freebie from Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine and has been stamped in Dandelion Memento Dew Drop Ink.Some gems have been used to embellish.

Please stop by the challenge blog to see some of the other DT’s farewell creations and I,and the rest of the team, would love you to join us on Monday.

Looking on the Bright Side

cypdt28thjan 001

We have a colour challenge this week at Craft Your Passion. You need to use all of these on your project :  We have the fabulous Mayzy Art as our sponsor too. Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

For my card I’ve used the fabulous MacKenzie by Mayzy Art and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers adding a teeny bit of white gel pen lip shine. Two tone hair just seemed so right for this li’ cutie.Must admit I had to wrack my brain to find a way to combine all the colours – a tough job when there’s not much to wrack 😉 Then it hit me…ouch!Die cut shapes.Left me wishing I had  bought those chevron or hexagon dies I’d been eyeing up for ages…but I try not to buy faddy craft items if I can help it.So I decided to use these flowers. Not only did this save me wading through the oodles of DP I own it gave a great opportunity to use up some scraps. The centres of the flowers were cut from those tiny pieces that aren’t normally that useful but seem wasteful to throw out.I trimmed down all but one of the flowers to create some extra interest and added a couple of punched borders. The sentiment, cut into a banner, was stamped and the flowers also coloured with Copics. This has no other embellishments can you believe!I thought about it then decided against it.A wise decision methinks as the colours and design are quite busy.

Supplies :

Bags of charm :)

jsldt26thjan 001 copy

This fortnight at Just Some Lines the challenge is Add a Charm. From now on only projects made with Just Some Lines images can be entered. But the good news is there will be a freebie image posted on the blog for the duration of the challenge for you to use!Just pop on over to Just Some Lines to find out all the details. While you’re  there don’t forget to get inspired by the DT’s creations.

For my project I’ve used the fabulous Lola by Just Some Lines. She’s been coloured with ProMarkers and has had a pearl added to the flower in her hair along with some Diamond Stickles on the gem on her ring – what else?!I got the idea to make this gift bag from the latest issue of Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine. Not sure if it’s me but I found the instructions difficult to follow and also thought the some of the measurements were wrong.Just as well I had a practice with some scrap paper and there was a template provided,so I took the measurements off that.Worked like a…er…charm!I used some pretty double sided paper from my stash. The chocolate piece on the flap is the reverse side so I made my faux stitching the same colour. The handles are grosgrain ribbon and I’ve embellished it with some pearl brads. The charm I cobbled together from a necklace kindly donated to me by DD1 🙂 I decided to turn it into a handbag charm.I’m thinking of presenting a piece of jewelry to my DD2 for her birthday in this 🙂

Bert Will You Remember My Birthday?

wscdt24thjan 001

It’s the lovely Anne-Marie’s turn to host the Willow Sketchie Challenge this week and here’s her fabby sketch :

The theme is Happy Birthday.Don’t forget you can follow the sketch and/or theme. This week there is a special mystery prize from Willow Designs for one lucky person! As well as a winner (chosen randomly) there will be a hand picked Top 3 and they will receive a super cute badge for their blog.Don’t forget to stop by the challenge site and check out my fellow DT’s beautiful creations.A truly inspirational bunch.

For my card I’ve used the adorable Wilbert with Flowers Digital Stamp by Willow Designs and coloured him with Copic Ciao Markers. He’s even been given a cute shiny nose courtesy of some 3D Crystal Lacquer. He’s been layered up with some pretty magazine freebie papers.Wasn’t quiet sure how I was going to incorporate the one with the frame into my cardmaking but I think it works well here 🙂 I stamped the sentiment onto a coordinating chipboard piece and inked the raffia lace border in the same shade of Memento – it was a tad too pink before.Three square buttons have been added to compliment the  chipboard shape and complete the look.

**Lately I’m finding my pics look a little blurry on my blog page. Not sure if they are that way for you but if you click on it a much clearer view of my project shows.Thanks.**

Totally A-tealing!

cypdt21stjan 001

At Craft Your Passion this week the theme is Totally Teal.We have the fabulous Saturated Canary as our sponsor too. Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

For my card I’ve chosen the gorgeous Cerridwen by Saturated Canary and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers, adding just the merest hint of lip shine with a white gel pen.I have to admit I’ve never been brave enough to colour one of these amazing images before :s …even tho’ I have a few.I really wanted to do a good job and once I stopped putting pressure on myself enjoyed the whole process 🙂 And isn’t what it’s supposed to be about?I will definitely have to colour more of these now and it’s taught me a lot on how to improve too.Altho’ I might not have done as a grand a job as some of the more able colourists out there I’m still quite pleased with the result.I’ve teamed her with some beautiful My Mind’s Eye papers (aren’t they all?) that seemed to fit the bill and rather luckily I’d stocked up on this card I found at my local craft warehouse.I picked up a Memento Dew Drop Ink Pad,one of the newest colours, there too 🙂 I cut a tiny strip of the floral paper and took the colours for the butterflies on the image and die cut flourishes from there.I prettied up the punched butterflies with some gems.I had actually planned to make the base card in the same shape as the layers but could I find my 8 x 8 card blanks? No,I could not…until I’d finished my card and tidied everything away!Typical!lol…Anyway this is my card and just hope I’ve done this gorgeous gal justice 🙂

Some exciting news! Our dog has had a puppy…well, adopted one…er…OK it’s not real. It’s Sizzles from Charlie and Lola!

snowday 005

My kids like to pretend he is her puppy and when they ‘abandoned’ her to play in the snow she snuggled up to Sizzles instead.
She’s such a sweet. She’s part ‘scary’ Staffie and part not so scary Whippet. But I like to call her a ‘Whiffie’.Which suits her very well!lol

Butterfly Wishes

jsldt19thjan 001 copy

For my card I’ve used the beautiful Emo – Happy Day , a new release at Just Some Lines .Altho’ it doesn’t count as the ‘New’ part of the challenge I have tried a couple of techniques that I haven’t given a go before. The first is making a Circular Side Step Card.Oh My!Did this give me bother!I can’t tell you how much card I wasted,I’m far too ashamed :0 As  a rule I normally try new folds out on scrap paper first.BUT as loads of people said how it easy this was I ploughed ahead with my chosen card in hand.Mistake number 1 used the wrong sized Grand Nestie.Thinking I could work my way out of this I tried to alter the measurements.Maths is NOT my strong point 😦 Second attempt changed to correct Grand Nestie, just couldn’t fathom part of the folding process even tho’ there was a video as well as step by step with pics…eventually I got it right! Then promptly decided I wanted more depth on the part of the circle on the right (where the steps are) so made another cutting a shorter slit. That one worked too 🙂 Good job I’d just bought a ton of this card…which brings me nicely on to the ‘New’ part of the challenge – new stash!Plus the paper, just a shame it’s not showing how glittery it is.Well after colouring on kraft successfully with different mediums I thought I’d give it a whirl on coloured card.I’ve used Polychromos pencils.Still need a bit more practice methinks but like the effect.I cut the tag on 2 different coloured cardstocks cutting away parts of the burnt orange one then stamping and layering.I coloured the little butterfly on the sentiment with the same pencils.Added some pearls,a die cut leaf frond and some paper raffia which I also cut the flowers from.

As we have about 5- 6 inches of snow on the ground and a promise of more on the way (!) I think using this pretty image and warm orangey shades is wishful thinking on my part 😉 Roll on Spring!

For my card I’ve used the adorable George Having a nap  Digital stamp by Willow Designs. He’s been coloured with ProMarkers.I’ve teamed him with some of my fave Willow Designs papers,Crazy Daisy downloadable paper collection.Love these with kraft 🙂 Distressed all the edges and drawn in some faux stitching. The flowers, part of the paper set, have had Crackle Accents added to the centres.I thought George would make a good get well image but he’s so cute he’d be great for any occasion.I’ve mirrored the sketch and er… NOT because I cut the papers wrong *cough cough* 😉

Stop ‘foaling’ around!

cypdt14thjan 001

At Craft Your Passion this week the theme is Gone Country. We have the fabulous DRS Designs and Doodle Pantry as our sponsors too. Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

For my card I’ve used the wonderful Silhouette Horse by DRS Designs and created the illusion of him galloping off into the sunset with Distress Inks.I chose to use a hazier, more tranquil effect rather than dramatic orange and purple shades.I started with a light dusting of Scattered Straw before adding the ‘Sun’ mask then built up the layers of colour. For the clouds I swirled a waterbrush over the areas I wanted to remove colour from and dabbed the ink away with a tissue.Next I added shadows back in by watercolour painting with Broken China and Scattered Straw. This is my first attempt and I’m quite pleased with the results 🙂 All edges have been inked with Vintage photo and then distressed.I punched a fence along the bottom panel then adhered a strip of jute ribbon onto it.It’s gotten a little scruffy due to me not being careful enough when storing it but I think it adds to the rustic charm 😉 The boots are cut from a sheet of paper from the same collection as is the sentiment.Once the sentiment was mounted I set some eyelets and threaded some thin hairy string I salvaged from a clothing tag.Lastly I added some of my favourite screw top brads that I try not to use…lol 🙂

Such a ‘tweet’ couple

jsldt12thjan 003

It’s the first challenge of the year at Just Some Lines! And it’s Something New.This could be some newly acquired stash or for a new occasion (New Baby,Home etc…).From now on only projects made with Just Some Lines images can be entered. But the good news is there will be a freebie image posted on the blog for the duration of the challenge for you to use!Just pop on over to Just Some Lines to find out all the details. While you’re  there don’t forget to get inspired by the DT’s creations.

For my card I’ve used the delightful Wedded Bliss (birds) and coloured them with ProMarkers, added white gel pen highlights and  inked the edges. The heart with the sentiment is actually a pocket with a hidden message tag inside, with computer generated wording.

jsldt12thjan 002

So it looks like I’ve followed the theme then… a new life together.Wait! There’s more.Of course with the many craft sales that are taking place ATM I managed to pick up the pad the papers are from for a small, tidy sum.Yeah, more papers.I wonder if I’ll ever use them all? The heart dies are also a new acquisition too.Have to admit not being a romantic, girly type I’ve never owned anything crafty that’s heart shaped except a teeny punch when I first started cardmaking and a border die that I rarely use.Now I can see these being so useful 🙂

‘Bearly’ time to do the garden!

wscdt10thjan 001

It’s the lovely Dawn’s turn to host at Willow Sketchie Challenge this week and here’s her fabby sketch :

The theme is In the Garden.Don’t forget you can follow the sketch and/or theme. You could be the lucky winner of a voucher to spend at Willow Designs too! As well as a winner (chosen randomly) there will be a hand picked Top 3 and they will receive a super cute badge for their blog.Don’t forget to stop by the challenge site and check out my fellow DT’s beautiful creations.A truly inspirational bunch.

For my card I’ve used Taking a snoooooze digital stamp by Willow DesignsWho wouldn’t rather catch 40 winks than mow the lawn etc. – me for one 😉 I’ve trimmed it down using a nestie and the Out-of the-Box technique to allow his newspaper to dangle over the edge. He’s been coloured with ProMarkers and 3D Crystal Lacquer has added shine to the lenses on his specs.I was very naughty and picked up this New Leaf  pad at my local craft warehouse. One thing I wasn’t buying this year was MORE papers to add to the copious amount I already own…but…when they’re half price you have to to don’t you?Don’t you?!And of course I had to pick up a Boho Chic one as well 🙂 Not one to pass up on a bargain, especially a crafty one!I added an embossed piece of cardstock to break up the patterns and wrapped it with some natural raffia.Altho’ this is meant to be a Christmas design folder I think it works well with garden/nature themed cards all year round. The sign is die cut and stamped with a sentiment, the brads are purely for decoration. The snap is from a set I bought in a craft sale last Summer, well 2 actually as they were a good price, and it’s the first time I’ve used one! They do go beautifully with these papers tho’ so I’m sure they will get out and about more 😉
