The challenge at Crafty Sentiments this week is Birthday.Drop on by to join in the fun and be in with the chance of winning a super prize.Don’t forget to take a look at some fabulous inspiration by the talented DT while you’re there.

So,I thought I’d play with my recently acquired Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarelle again to colour the adorable Scruff – Make a Wish by Crafty Sentiments Designs.I chose these muted tone papers and distressed the edges too.Decided to add a lot of die cut circles and rolled some scraps of the papers to make the candles, hand cutting the flames. They’ve been tied together with some jute twine and the same twine has been used the to thread the buttons at the top of the card.As this was meant for my DH’s Birthday I gave it a masculine feel – well, hopefully 😉

Here’s Sugi’s Spring Blossom Dress by Lacy Sunshine Stamps. For my birthday recently I thought I’d treat myself to some decent watercolour pencils. After much deliberation and reading reviews I settled on some Faber-Castell Art Grip Aquarelle. Then I had to find them at the right price for me – LOL.I happened across a tin of 60 which had some pretty colours perfect for card making along with some suitable skin tones 🙂 Also included were some metallics! If you live in the UK I can recommend Crafty Arts for both price and delivery.(No connection to the company – just a very happy customer!) I did enjoy using these pencils and am pleased with the quality.Altho’ the results here aren’t too bad I still need a lot more practice with watercolouring, but with the image being so beautiful I probably get away with it – just! The rest of the card is kept quite simple with an embossed border on the kraft card base,a piece of patterned with a tear and a coordinating piece just peeking through and some pearls and ribbon from my stash that just happened to match each other perfectly 🙂 Finished off with a stamped sentiment and distressed edges.

How to Save a (Snowman’s) Life ;)

csdt9thdec 001

The challenge at Crafty Sentiments this week is Christmas!Drop on by to join in the fun and be in with the chance of winning a super prize.Don’t forget to take a look at some fabulous inspiration by the talented DT while you’re there.

Isn’t Sammy – Thank You by Crafty Sentiments just the most adorable snowman you’ve ever seen?!Here’s a little story to go with him.It may explain my post title too,in case you were wondering…

I had so much fun trying to colour this frosty chap in ever so carefully with Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers.Even getting a nice furry effect on the squirrel and some lovely shading on Sammy himself.Well, once finished I stuck him onto the card I’d already prepped and added the sentiment. Then I spotted a blob of red Copic ink  to the right of his eye.Oh no!I’m such a mucky pup 😦 I always seem to get this all over my hands and it’s the worst colour to remove.I pulled out the Blender in the vain hope it would magically disappear.Um,no…instead I was left with a pink smudge.Next course of action was to try and cover it with white gel pen, another good rescue remedy.Nope!Still showed through even after a second coat.Because I use Collall All Purpose it was going to be difficult to take the image off with out damage to the red card underneath as it was almost dry. And,of course,as luck would have it I didn’t have enough left to cut another mat.So I laid it down, walked away and quietly thought about it for a few days.I suddenly remembered I had some gesso…probably thick enough to cover all the mess and add texture into the bargain! Now what if I added some mica powder for some snowy glisten?Perfect! How to add the shading back in without risking damaging my pens?Pearlescent watercolour paint – but not too wet…

Considering how much I messed this up I think I did a pretty good salvage job :

Die Cutting a Dash and Looking Dapper

csdt25thnov 001

The challenge at Crafty Sentiments this week is Use Die Cuts.Drop on by to join in the fun and be in with the chance of winning a super prize.Don’t forget to take a look at some fabulous inspiration by the talented DT while you’re there.

Here’s Billy -Mr Romantic by Crafty Sentiments Designs all dressed up.Altho’ I don’t think you need to save him for just that kind of occasion. He’s very much suitable for male themed cards too 🙂 My soon-to-be-13-year-old son (Oh!The joyful prospect of a teenage son!!Eeek!Help!) loves to don a trilby and waistcoat when he wants to look smart too.So this card is in his honour 🙂 Anyway, back to Billy…he has been coloured with Polychromos Pencils that have been blended out using low odour oils thinners and a paper stump. As you can probably tell I’ve made a shaped easel card using a set of dies that have also cut the paper layers too,the top one being a half and half concoction.I also used a die to make it look as if Billy has been torn from a sketch pad.The greeting has been cut from a die too.The buttons aren’t real either. They’ve been cut from red card using a die set.Yeah,I kinda went die cut crazy!!

A little taggy waggy :)

JSLdt23rdfeb 001 copy

The new challenge at Just Some Lines is Create a Tag. Only projects made with Just Some Lines images can be entered. But the good news is there will be a freebie image posted on the blog for the duration of the challenge for you to use!Just pop on over to Just Some Lines to find out all the details. While you’re  there don’t forget to get inspired by the DT’s creations.

For my tag I’ve used the adorable Party Dog by Just Some Lines and coloured him with Copic Ciao Markers. The balloons have had a good coating of 3D Crystal Lacquer altho’ it only really shows a little on the top of the green balloon in the pic.I decided to cut him out with the same shape tag as the base and inked around the edges in Sepia Archival Ink for definition. To create the layers of DP I cut them from the same die as the kraft base, embossed them and then trimmed away the excess to reveal the border.I also tore the edges for a ruff look (couldn’t resist!).The sentiment was stamped onto another die cut from the set and the edges were inked on that too.I added the brads and folded back the arms, legs (or whatever you call them…lol) back so that they would not be seen from the front. Some baker’s twine was tied to the small tag and some more along with a length of grosgrain ribbon onto the tag base.

Supplies :
