G(u)esso’s Having 20 Winks?

At Craft Your Passion the challenges are Always Anything Goes!We have the fabulous Rick St. Dennis as our sponsor too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.

The gorgeous 20 Winks by Rick St. Dennis has been printed onto Desert Storm cardstock and,as I haven’t used them in a while, coloured with soft pastel pencils.Plus I’d never used them on this surface before.A few white gel pen highlights have been added to just the fairy and the caterpillar’s eyes to brighten them as the pastels were too faint.Altho’ they lay down quite chalky and dusty and also cover the lines a little, once they are set with the fixative spray they have more depth and vibrancy.I quite like how they’ve turned out on this cardstock too 🙂 Rest of the card is quiet simple…just a die cut base with freebie paper and a woodgrain embossed panel of sanded back Whitewash card,pInk ribbons and gems to match her dress and a sentiment. The gesso has been daubed and smeared about a bit.First time I’ve used it!So much fun but think I ended up covered in more than the card 😉 Drove the dog crazy too – she seemed to love the smell of it – weird?! It was pretty handy to edge the hessian/burlap die cut flowers as it held them together.Usually dab a little PVA dries clear glue around them. This way it ties everything in 🙂

I’m looking over a 4 leaf clover

jsldt8thmar 001

It’s the 2nd week of the St.Patrick’s Day/Good Luck challenge at  Just Some Lines. To play along you need to use a Just Some Lines image to enter and you could win a digi if you’re picked as part of the Top 3.As usual there is a freebie on the challenge site if you wish to use it :)

This darling image is Fairy – 4 leaf clover by Just Some Lines. She’s been coloured with Graph’It Markers and her clothing has been paper pieced.A little sparkle has been added to her pixie boots and  wings with a Gold Graph’It Glitter Shake Pen.I didn’t want to lose the softness of the shading on her wings,so just picked out  the detail already there .Here’s a closer look :

jsldt8thmar 002

The only way I can think to describe the card I made to go with her is it’s like a variation on a tent card style. But instead of the crease at the top it’s on the left hand side as normal but there are two concertinaed pieces of card top and bottom to keep from the card opening right up.It looks kind of like a slightly open book.I’m probably not doing a great job describing this,so maybe this pic may explain what I mean a little better :

jsldt8thmarcloseup2 001

You can also see how I suspended the flowers on some invisible nylon thread.I can’t take credit for the design. I saw a sample card like this at a demo I went to.This is just my take on it.It was quite easy to put together but most of all it fun!

So it’s now the third week of the Love & Hearts challenge at Just Some Lines. To play along you need to use a Just Some Lines image to enter and you could win a digi if you’re picked as part of the Top 3!

Thought I’d take a meander off the usual love themed route.Hopefully this would put a smile on somebody who needs it’s face 🙂 Just to show how much you care.I’ve coloured the amusing Jessi Hugs a Cat by Just Some Lines with Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers.Must admit it looks as tho’ she’s enjoying it more than her feline friend is 😉 I dug out these magazine freebie  Nitwit Collection papers to go with her and backed everything with kraft card. The tab on the side is cut using X-Cut dies and the scallop border on the bottom of the image has been created with a punch. The sentiment has been die cut and then had the right hand side trimmed off.I added a brad to the remaining hole.A few jute twine threaded wooden buttons have been scattered around the edge of the image to complete the card.

Supplies :

At Craft Your Passion this week the challenge is Let’s Play Dress Up.We have the fabulous Stamp Fairy as our sponsor too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.

For my card I’ve used the super cute Toby SpringFairy by Stamp Fairy and coloured him with Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers. For an extra special touch I’ve paper pieced his dress and,of course, added some Glamour Dust.Ain’t he pretty?!I decided to create a card with a little white space for a change.I dug out these papers from my stash as I thought the colours would give a fresh,Springlike feel.I used one of my favourite but seldom used punches on the purple layer of card and decorated the centre of each flower with a gem.I layered up 3 different types of ribbon and topped then with a bow.The sentiment has been stamped directly on to the card base and more Glamour Dust has been applied to the stars at either end of the words.

‘Fairy’ pleased to meet you

jsldt16thmarch 001 copy

Just a reminder that the Fairies challenge at Just Some Lines  is still open. You could be in the running for a super prize. You need play along with a Just Some Lines image  to enter and one random winner will get 4 digi stamps of their choice. It doesn’t stop there tho’ as the Top 3 will get one digi stamp each too! There is a freebie to get you started too or you can choose one from Just Some Lines here.

For my card I’ve used Fairy – hello friend by Just Some Lines and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers.Of course no fairy would be complete without a set of sparkly wings so Crystal Glamour Dust has been added. The background paper and the one the flowers are die cut from are Papermania Happy Days. The floral strip is actually a length of self adhesive fabric from the same collection.I received a selection of the papers in a DoCrafts Goody Bag and I was so taken with this floral design I used it the most leaving me with the smallest of scraps.Recently I placed an order with an online craft shop and found this material in the sale section so added it in to take me over the free P&P threshold. So not only beautiful but useful too 🙂 Looking forward to using this stuff more.I die cut a swirl to echo the shape of the  blade of grass in the image, then stamped and  hand cut the sentiment. The centers of the flowers have been embellished with some buttons to finish.

Watching fairy-ily in-tently

jsldt9thmarch 001 copy

It’s time for a new challenge at Just Some Lines and the theme is Fairies. Only projects made with Just Some Lines images can be entered. But the good news is there will be a freebie image posted on the blog for the duration of the challenge for you to use!Just pop on over to Just Some Lines to find out all the details. While you’re  there don’t forget to get inspired by the DT’s creations.

I’ve created a tent fold card so that I could use 2 beautiful images from Just Some Lines,Fairy Keisha Watching n Waiting and Fairy Kyra Free Fall. After colouring them with Copic Ciao Markers both were fussy cut.I adhered Keisha overlapping the aperture and attached Kyra to the inside of the card with some transparent nylon thread, allowing her to dangle freely.I chose some pretty Dovecraft paper and added a sentiment layered onto a die cut piece, also cutting a matching corner from the same set.A length of ribbon in a deeper peach shade has been used to embellish.

Tagging along fairy-ly

It’s my turn to host at Willow Sketchie Challenge this week and here’s my sketch :

I’ve also set the theme of ‘Tag You’re It !’.Add a tag to your card, make a tag,or even a matching set.Don’t forget you can follow the sketch and/or theme. You could be the lucky winner of a voucher to spend at Willow Designs too! As well as a winner (chosen randomly) there will be a hand picked Top 3 and they will receive a super cute badge for their blog.Don’t forget to stop by the challenge site and check out my fellow DT’s beautiful creations.A truly inspirational bunch.

Well I’ve pushed the boat out and created a card with a matching tag,had to really as it was all my big idea, featuring Fairy Dance digital stamp from Willow Designs. She’s been coloured with Copic Sketch and Ciao Markers and been given Glamour Dust wings.I made both bases for the card and tag with kraft card and layered up some Polly Pickleberry CD-rom papers onto some coordinating card.I stamped a couple of sentiments and added one to tag to tie onto my card. The other is the focal point of the tag, embellished with some teeny star gems and more Glamour Dust.I picked out the aqua colour highlights from the bird backing paper and twisted two shades of floss together. The ribbon is from atop I bought. It’s the pieces that hold clothes on the hanger. Not sure how I manage it but no matter how much ribbon I buy it’s always these that match a project perfectly 😀

Supplies :

Little Missy Sunshine

This week at Willow Sketchie Challenge it’s my first turn at hosting and presenting a sketch :

I’ve used cutie-pie Missy  from Willow Designs on my card. She’s been coloured with ProMarkers including Metallic Silver on her crown.I’ve also added lots of teeny nail gems to her.I’ve used some lovely, bright,Summery papers and a few yellow bits ‘n’ bobs too.The ric rac I’ve had for years and never seem to have thought how to use it.The Prima blooms I’ve had an age as well. This was a challenge for me also as yellow isn’t a colour I automatically think of using but what with it being Summer I thought this stuff ought to come out to play!

A precious coat

Over at Willow Sketchie Challenge we have  a fabby sketch from Shell :

This is her debut as hostess and very first sketch!

For my card I’ve used Precious from Willow Designs. Not only do you get a pre-coloured and digi stamp you also get a matching backing paper too!I’ve coloured her with ProMarkers and added some touches of Copic Atyou Spica pens. You may have noticed she also has a coat of Precious paper.I paper pieced this.Keep reading and you will get to a tutorial on how to do this with digi’s! I’ve added some texture with an embossing folder and added some coloured staples for extra interest. The little stapler is only 99p from The Works and comes with a selection of different colours of staples.

Here’s a close up to hopefully show some sparkle :

Supplies :
Image : Precious from Willow Designs
Sentiment : From Pink Cat Studio Fairy Friends plate stamped in Jet Black Archival Ink
Colouring Mediums : ProMarkers including Blender on sky,Copic Atyou Spica pens in Pink (gems on crown),Clear (star on wand) and Silver (buckles on shoes)
Papers & Card : Precious backing paper that comes with the image, Papermania Textured Capsule A4 Colossal Pack
Adhesive : Cosmic Shimmer Specialist Craft PVA
Tools : X-Cut Guillotine,Siesta Small Corner Rounder,Nellie’s Multi Frame Dies Squares,Nestabilities Classic Squares Large,Crafts Too Stars Embossing Folder,Big Shot,Mini Stapler
Embellishments : Coloured Mini Staples

Here is the tutorial.

The weather has been very cloudy so the light wasn’t too fantastic but you should get the gist :

First print your image onto copy paper.Note which way the paper comes out of your printer. Here I’ve marked an arrow to remind me which way to feed it back in.

I’ve resized the Precious paper at 25% in paint. That’s the beauty of digi papers! If using Designer Papers just choose a small pattern. They work better.

Next trim down the paper to fit the part you want to paper piece. Not only does this allow you to choose which part of  the pattern you want to use it also saves waste if you’re using your favourite papers. This technique is good for using your scraps too.I’ve adhered it using a Stix 2 Removable Tape Pen (the green one). You can also use low-tack masking tape but you must take care NOT to place this over any part you want to print  out. How do I know?Hee hee, through experience!

Pop you paper back into your printer making sure you’ve got it the right way round and print again.Although in this instance the image has printed a second time perfectly aligned the reason for printing out on ordinary paper is this isn’t always the case.

Print your image out onto the piece of cardstock you want to use on your finished project.

Cut out and colour as desired. Here I’ve cut out her coat using decoupage scissors to make sure I’ve got all round the finer details. It’s been stuck in place using a good quality PVA glue to make it easier to slide it into position.Use this sparingly as you don’t want it to wrinkle.I’ve stuck this down flat but you could shape the paper using your fingers and add some lift with some Pinflair Glue Gel.

Hope you give this a go.It’s such a fun way to add detail to your images and coordinates them beautifully to the rest of your work.

Any questions on this don’t hesitate to ask.

Here are some challenges this card is for :

Daisy Doodles : Anything Goes
