A little bird told me…

…It’s time to Celebrate!

Inside the card.I think you can tell from the colours I’m finding it hard to let go of Summer!!Maybe it’s because here in the U.K. we didn’t really have one!

The challenge for this week at Pear Tree Designs is CELEBRATION!So whether it’s a Birthday,Wedding,Anniversary,New Baby or any reason to think of to celebrate we’d love to see you card/project!!We have a fabulous sponsor too.Robyn’s Fetish Digital Stamps And More  are offering the phenomenal prize of 5 digital stamps or paper sets!!With all that on offer you’ve no excuse not to play along!!For the rules and see the fantastic DT samples please click on the link above.

I’ve used A Little Birdie Told Me  from Robyn’s Fetish Digital Stamps And More and coloured it with Promarkers.Inside I’ve used a resized (love how you can do this with digis) version of the image and cut out just the birdie. It’s sooo tweet!!Hee hee.I just couldn’t resist using the freebie from Craft Stamper magazine again!(the frame has been coloured with Promarkers)I’ve also used a dot of Glossy Accents on the eyes and some Diamond Stickles on the flowers and frame of the word stamp. The other wording has been created on the computer and printed straight onto the DPs.I’ve made the flowers myself using a mix of the daisy element on the Cuttlebug OliviaAlphabet Die and a Craft Tonic flower punch with same DPs as on the card.I’ve used a fine liner pen to create faux stitching to make it look as if the two pieces have been sewn together on the band across the card. The ribbon which was originally cream has been coloured to match with Promarkers. It’s a great way to get a perfect match to your project and it saves money as you can buy more reasonably priced rolls in cream or white.Although I have a tendency to spend far too much on crafty goodies I do try very hard to snatch a few pennies back!

Neeooow!

The theme this week at Craft Your Passion is CLEAN & SIMPLE .So if you fancy playing along with the chance to win some fantastic digi stamps and see the rest of the DT’s amazing work please click on the link. You can also add your name to become a GDT!!

Here I’ve worked with the darling little ‘Boy with plane’ from Lauretta’s Digital Stamps and coloured him with ProMarkers.I decided given the theme I would shy away from the world of DPs and use some Cuttlebug embossing folders.I have to admit I don’t use these nearly as much as I should! To add extra interest I embossed on some Core’dinations Whitewash card then lightly sanded to reveal a subtle amount of colour.I thought the Kraft would give a good contrast.I’ve had this pack about a month and this is the first time I’ve delved into it.How bad am I at buying stuff and then not using it?VERY!!I also dug out some buttons that I’ve had since I first started card making in 2006 – just to confirm the point.I finished off with some good old hairy string.I didn’t actually buy this – it tied the price ticket onto a pair jeans.See I can be good sometimes and do my bit to recycle 😉 Not only is this stuff a great way to finish off a boy’s card it also gives, coupled with the kraft, the feeling of a package tied with string being delivered via Airmail!I love it when a plan comes together!

Supplies :
Image : Boy with plane from Lauretta’s Digital Stamps
Medium : Promarkers
Card : Kraft ; Core’dinations Whitewash
Tools : X-cut guillotine,Large corner rounder punch,Martha Stewart Scallop Dot Edger Punch,Cuttlebug folders ; Distressed Stripes and Seeing Spots

I’ve Fall-en for him!

There is a SKETCH to follow with the twist to add GEMS to your project at Pear Tree Designs. Here’s the sketch :

We have a fantastic sponsor too – Lilac Lemon Designs. They produce beautiful quality rubber stamps. So for a chance to win, details on how to play and take inspiration from the fabulous DT and GDTcards please click on the link.

It’s no secret in my house that I love, love,LOVE Hedgehogs!I really, really,REALLY want one as a pet.So it made sense to use this gorgeous little fella. If you’d like to give this cute and cuddly little chap, who goes by the name of Sticky Diddle,a home head on over to Digi Doodle Shop. If Hedgehogs aren’t your thing then take a look at their other images – there so many wonderful designs to choose from and I hope you can see from my card how crisply and perfectly they print out.I’ve coloured him with Promarkers and you can see where the camera has picked out the Glossy Accents on his nose and eyes.To keep his roundness I shaped I shaped him and adhered him using silicone glue. These brilliant papers are freebies from Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine (you have to register before you can download them). The Hedgehog one already has a cream background but I printed the plaid one onto ivory card.I printed onto card because it’s more substanstial for distressing than regular copy paper.I did use my new Papermania Victorian Fleur embossing folder on the piece the Hedgehog is sitting on and the greeting panel.Although IRL I was very impressed ( no pun intended!) with the result it doesn’t show up too well here :(.I have also mirrored the sketch as I saw the potential to create a hinged card from it. I picked an Autumnal theme as it suits this image so well plus it’s a time of year I adore for all the colours!!

Supplies :
Image : Sticky Diddle from Digi Doodle Shop
Sentiment : eBay seller CraziBoutStamps (not sure if they still do this one)
Mediums : Promarkers;Glossy Accents; Scattered Straw Distress Ink;Rich Cocoa Memento Ink

Wheeee!

It’s SKETCH time at Craft Your Passion this week! And here it is :

I love the layered elements and found it a joy to work with. For more details head on over by clicking the link. You’ll see the fabulous cards made by my fellow DT too!

I’ve used Choupinou Skating by CoCo Dingo and I love the movement in this image.I also used the ‘Out-of the-box’ technique when cutting him out.I decided to lay off the Promarkers for a change and used Polychromos pencils instead.I blended them with low odour thinners intended for use with oil paints as they are oil based rather than wax like children’s colouring pencils. And being a bit of a cheap skate I dipped a cheap cotton bud (the cheaper the better I say as they don’t have much cotton on the tip so don’t soak the liquid up) into it rather than a more expensive paper stump.I love this sentiment stamp and it’s already proved very useful. It’s a freebie from October’s issue of Craft Stamper magazine designed by Bev Fletcher of Banana Frog fame.I have to confess I made up the rest of the card and had to wait ’til I got my hands on a copy!

Supplies :

Somewhere Over the Rainbow …

…bluebirds fly.

At Craft Your Passion it’s technique time!In fact we’d like to see EASEL CARDS.If you’d like to play along please click the link. There’s the chance to win some digi stamps and take a look at the fabulous DT cards!

I decided to do something a little different and use acetate. As I was using Bird Flight from Lauretta’s Digital Stamps  I thought I’d make it appear as if the bird was actually flying. It’s attached with a thin strip of acetate which is fixed at the top of the card behind the strip of ‘sky’.I also resized and flipped the image to make the small birds carry the banner. The top row of flowers have been created by a kind of paper piecing method.I first punched the top edge of the green paper, then punched some pink paper, carefully cut along the bottom of the strip and then glued it over the top.The flowers growing up the fence have been individually cut from another punched strip.

Supplies :
Image – Lauretta’s Digital Stamps

Mediums – Promarkers;White Opal Liquid Pearls
Papers – K & Co;acetate from my stash

Think Pink!

There’s a PINK theme going on at Pear Tree Designs this week.We have a fabulous sponsor too – One Stop Card Crafts. For more details please click on the link and gain some inspiration from the beautiful DT cards including our GD Karla.

I’ve used a  gorgeous freebie image for my card.It ‘s from Lindsay’s Stamp Stuff.I first masked the dress and form then applied Distress Inks and then coloured those parts with Promarkers.I decided the scrolling leaves were a bit fiddly to do this with so just coloured over the top with Promarkers.I did find the printer ink smudged a little but I didn’t mind.I think it just adds to the vintage/grungy feel. The dress has been paper pieced with more Distress Ink added to give more depth.I added Crystal glitter and pearls to form a necklace.I embellished it further with a length of organza ribbon. It was white originally so I coloured it to match with Promarkers.

Supplies :
Image – Freebie from Linday’s Stamp Stuff
Mediums – Promarkers;Distress Inks in Spun Sugar,Victorian Velvet and Tattered Rose;Crystal glitter;Silicone glue

Vintage Butterfly

Over at Craft Your Passion there is a recipe of ‘LACE AND AT LEAST ONE FLOWER’ to follow.A beautiful combination I hope you’ll agree.

Head on over to draw some inspiration from the DT’s beautiful work, grab the chance to win some FREE digi stamps and apply for a GDT slot too!!

I thought I’d go in a slightly different direction with this one.I usually go for cute but swapped it for vintage as it seemed to suit this gorgeous image,Butterfly in lavender by Coco Dingo.I tried my own variation of the ‘Faux Porcelain Flowers’ technique from the September issue of Craft Stamper magazine.I don’t own a Melt Pot so I sprayed each layer of this handmade rose with Crafter’s Companion Spray and Shine.Left to dry before assembelling.I used some Distress Ink too, leaving a halo of white around the image. It really makes the colours ‘pop’!Of course I had to throw in some pearls to the mix – they just seemed to fit in perfectly.

Indian Summer!

*Apologies there is a lot to this post. You may want grab the comfiest seat in the house!!*

A closer view of the glittery flowers

A close up of those shoes!Wouldn’t you just love a pair of ’em!!

Over at By the Cute and Girly I’m GDT for September!Whoo hoo!The theme of ‘INDIAN SUMMER’ was set by DT nnalorac. So think rich colours, sultry evenings, gems, tassels etc.Let your imagination go wild! And don’t forget it’s not just card’s ANY craft of ANY kind is welcome!!Check the side bar for full details and draw some inspiration from the wonderful DT creations.Of course there are some brilliant prizes up for grabs too.

I was lucky enough to work with the ‘Emma Swinging’ image  by Whimsy Stamps.I did discover one thing when making this card. The Sky Blue Copic Atyou Spica I was using was too dark so I applied only a small amount and used Clear to blend it out.It did pick up the colour a little but I just scribbled on some scrap paper and it was as good as new!

Supplies :
Image : Emma Swinging from Whimsy Stamps
Mediums : Promarkers;Copic Atyou Spica glitter pens in Clear,Sky Blue and Orange;Diamond Stickles;Memento Inks in Lu Lu Lavender and Grape Jelly

Embellishments : Papermania Gems Caddy; Prima Flowers Itty Bitty Bag

Now onto my second project for the GDT.Sorry this is a bit of a biggie!!

I usually only make cards but do occasionally dip into my junk pile (I love collecting ‘stuff’.Maybe I should change my name to Stig of the Dump!) and create something .I decided to make a Memory Book for our Family Holiday.A bit ambitious as I’ve never made one before and don’t really know if that’s how to make one!The front and back covers are made from CDs that were newspaper freebies and the pages are thin chipboard.I punched the holes with my new ‘toy’.I took the plunge and bought The Cinch by We R Memory Keepers. It has had a lot of mixed reviews as a lot of machines seem to be faulty but I was one of the lucky few whose worked perfectly (so unlike me!!).I have a Crop-A-Dile and a Big Bite but always had trouble lining up more than one hole with my shaky mitts. This punched through the paper covered CDs and 3 chipboard circles so smoothly – even though I was afraid of breaking it!It’s a really amazing tool if you get one of the faultless ones.If it’s something you feel you need I would suggest buying one from somewhere you KNOW they won’t quibble if it’s not right.*This is just my personal opinion based on customer reviews and my own experience of this product. There is no malice intended towards We R Memory Keepers or their product.*

I shall certainly be using this tool on future projects.

The eyes have it.Glossy Accents and Copic Atyuo Spica that is!
