Don’t bug me – it’s Spring!

itbkdt12thapril

I’m so excited to be a Guest Designer for Imagine That!Digis by Kris! at their Creative Playground Challenge. The theme this month is Spring and it runs from April 2nd – May 6th.Stop on by the blog to check out all the wonderful inspiration there!

For my card I’ve printed this sweet image from the Ladybugs set by Imagine That!Digis by Kris onto kraft card then coloured with Polychromos Pencils. They really lend themselves beautifully to this technique. The white highlights on the bug are also in pencil.I’d usually add them with gel pen as I found it difficult to get it to show over the layers of colour. Then I had a ‘moment’…it suddenly dawned on me to draw them in where I wanted them to be first!Once I’d added the colour in I just sharpened it up a bit with the white pencil. Now,why hadn’t I thought of that before…please, don’t answer that – it’s rhetorical 😛 The blending has been done by pencil alone.Except for the Periwinkle glow around her.Blending solution and a paper stump to soften.I chose these papers from the Blossoms & Bugs Digi Papers also from the store. They coordinate perfectly 🙂 I printed the sentiment, from the Ladybugs set, onto kraft too and made some daisies to match the image to finish the whole thing off and not a die cut in sight.Everything has been punched!

So bought myself some new kraft card to play with and I’m quite pleased with it.I wanted to practise colouring with my Polychromos some more and this delightful little fella,Back 2 School Bird by Just Some Lines was just the ticket. They worked a treat but I think I still need more practice…sounds like good excuse to get in some extra crafting! For the transparent parts I went for an acetate card base, epoxy button stickers and, altho’ it doesn’t show up,3D Crystal Lacquer. The problem was trying not to get a refection of me taking the pic in the acetate!Anyway I kind of went for a School/Birthday/Office Supplies hybrid -and it looks like I achieved it 😀

digi paper CD copy

So meet the delightful Hedgehog – Hello! by Crafty Sentiments Designs. He’s available as a rubber stamp and here I’ve coloured him in Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers.I decided I’d give him a setting and to be honest I can always do with a bit of practice on creating backgrounds 😉 Not sure if it’s the angle of the notebook or the lens, maybe both, but hedgie on the right looks as tho’ he’s been more slugs n’ snails. But rest assured they are definitely following the same diet.

Here’s a side by side piccie :

I decided to make a card and notepad set just for something a little different…I chose these papers with a woodsy/countryside feel to them. Then teamed them with some kraft and lifted the reddy pink with coordinating card. There was already a sentiment on the woodgrain piece on the card so I thought I’d utilise that and cut the flowers out again from a second sheet and layered them up,slightly overlapping the bottom corner of the butterfly paper. The ric rac was a little too pale so I toned it in to match with a Copic Ciao Marker. This has been topped with a jute twine threaded button. The same papers were used on the notepad and I made new covers out of kraft. The butterfly paper was turned into a flower, ric rac for leaves and the button added to the centre.

Rainy Days & Mondays

dscdt22ndapril 001

cyp&dscdt22ndapril 001

At Digi Sketch Challenge we have another new challenge and the theme this fortnight is Rain,Rain Go Away!We have the super Crafty Sentiments and Ellephantastic as our sponsors.

It’s the lovely Anne-Marie’s turn to host and here’s her fabby sketch :

You can follow the sketch, theme or even both.Hope you stop by the challenge site and check out my fellow DT’s beautiful creations.A truly inspirational bunch.

As you can see I’ve made two card and both use our sponsors images 🙂

For my top card I’ve used Mia by Crafty Sentiments and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers and used white gel pen to add highlights.Altho’ she’s not really designed as a rainy day image I’ve applied 3D Crystal Lacquer to her coat to give the appearance of a rain mac and also to her boots to make them look like wellies 😉 I’ve flicked a pale blue Copic Ciao Marker across the background and coated it with more lacquer for instant rain!I chose the papers, that I’ve had an age,to compliment the rainy feeling. All edges have had the Tim Holtz Paper Distresser treatment.A couple of  clouds have been sanded before being placed on the card.To finish the card a clear button has been threaded through some paper twine which has been wrapped around the border piece.

Supplies :

Image : Mia by Crafty Sentiments
Mediums : Copic Ciao Markers,Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen,3D Crystal Lacquer
Papers & Card : DP K & Co,Core’dinations Roy G.Biv 12 x 12 Cardstock Pad
Tools : X-Cut Guillotine,Tim Holtz Paper Distresser,Fiskars Scallop Sentiment Border Punch,Nellie’s Multi Frame Dies Flower Circles,Joy!Crafts Clouds Die,Big Shot,Core’dintaions Sand It Gadget
To Embellish: Paper Twine and Clear Button from stash

For my second card I’ve used Emily Autumn by Ellephantastic and coloured her with ProMarkers this time, trying to incorporate as many of the new Spring/Summer Limited Edition colours.I’ve also gone for a different look by using pastel backing papers and card.I cut a circle frame to place behind the image from some Nellie’s  Multi Frame Circle Dies.I’ve not used them like this before but I really like it 🙂 I stamped a circular sentiment and added it to another one of the frames. Some acrylic dew drops have been used to embellish.

Supplies :

Image : Emily Autumn by Ellephantastic
Colouring Medium : ProMarkers
Papers & Card : DP Freebie Emma’s Garden from Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine,Bazzill Basics

The theme of the challenge at Just Some Lines this week is Love ♥.So just perfect with Valentine’s Day around the corner 🙂 Only projects made with Just Some Lines images can be entered. But the good news is there will be a freebie image posted on the blog for the duration of the challenge for you to use!Just pop on over to Just Some Lines to find out all the details. While you’re  there don’t forget to get inspired by the DT’s creations.

For my card I’ve featured the totally adorable Emo Alek  and Amber – I’ll catch you by Just Some Lines. They’ve been watercoloured with Distress Inks. After trimming the top edge has been die cut to give the appearance of the image being torn from a sketch pad. I cut the base from an ivory card blank with a Grand Nestie and layered up some Papermania Vintage Notes papers, die cut decoupage elements and a die cut sentiment. All edges have been Distress Inked.I threaded a button with baker’s twine and also tied some around the die cut heart. This is for my DH.Even tho’ it looks a bit girly I don’t think it matters too much for Valentine’s Day – not sure if he’ll agree LOL

Birds and tortoises of a feather….

….stick together!

The challenge at Just Some Lines is Give Thanks this time. There are some changes to the challenge too. From now on only projects made with Just Some Lines images can be entered. But the good news is there will be a freebie image posted on the blog for the duration of the challenge for you to use!Just pop on over to Just Some Lines to find out all the details. While you’re  there don’t forget to get inspired by the DT’s creations.

For my card I’ve used the adorable Turt n Peep – Peep by Just Some Lines with Copic Ciao Markers.I added some texture to the bird and dotted some blender over the tortoise’s face to give that  kind of scaly look they have about them.I found some papers in my stash that I thought would compliment his shell and dug out a Spelllbinders Impressabilities that I’ve had a few years and never used :0 I typed and printed the sentiment using my ‘puter then cut the tag using a Quickutz die.Because I wanted to define it where it is layered over the image I ended up hand cutting a piece of kraft to mount it onto.So we’ll just ignore the wonky cutting and move on 😉 I die cut a flower from a coordinating paper and added a couple of die cue leaves and a brad.

Supplies :

Image : Turt n Peep – Peep from Just Some Lines
Colouring Medium : Copic Ciao Markers

Thinking Pink

This week’s challenge at Craft Your Passion is Breast Cancer Awareness ~ ThinPink. We have the fabulous The Cutting Cafe as our sponsor.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

For my card I’ve used an image and two sentiments from the Think Pink – Breast Cancer Printable Stamp Set from The Cutting Cafe.I printed the ribbon image onto patterned paper then printed the  flowers onto some  cardstock that coordinates with one of the backing papers.Pink gems were added to each flower centre.I printed two pre-coloured sentiments,turning the Thin Pink one into a tab and popping the circular one onto some foam tape for dimension. The papers were a freebie a while back from Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine. The two patterned strips across the white border are washi tape.Altho’ these are supposed to be Christmas ones they’re just so pretty I’ll be pulling them out from time to time for any occasion card.I realised  once I’d finished making this there was no colouring whatsoever!!Unusual for me but I still enjoyed making it and for such a good cause 🙂

Supplies :

Image & Sentiments : Think Pink – Breast Cancer Printable Stamp Set from The Cutting Cafe
Papers & Card : DP freebie from Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine,Card Trimcraft Textured 12 x 12 Card
