Bearly a butterfly

jsldt22ndfeb

So it’s the last week of the month long Love & Hearts challenge at Just Some Lines.Well, that’s another month over!To play along you need to use a Just Some Lines image to enter and you could win a digi if you’re picked as part of the Top 3.

I’ve taken this sweet Butterfly Bear by Just Some Lines and coloured her with soft pastel pencils, blended out for a softer appearance.I remembered I had this heart paper buried in my stash and just had to dig it out to use with her 🙂 I drew on some faux stitching around the edges.I punched a border down one side of the vertical strip and used some dies to cut out the bear and stamped sentiment.A couple of adhesive gems cover the holes, where you would normally place a brad,on the sentiment piece to give a prettier look. The flower has been stamped onto more of the patterned paper and cut out.A heart shaped button has been adhered to the centre to cover the round one that’s on the image and a couple of wooden leaves have been placed either side as a finishing touch. This was a last minute decision but I like it 🙂

Flying high!

jsldt25thmay 001

Just a reminder that the Anything Goes challenge at Just Some Lines  is still open. You could be in the running for a super prize. You need play along with a Just Some Lines image to enter and one random winner will get 4 digi stamps of their choice. It doesn’t stop there tho’ as the Top 3 will get one digi stamp each too! There is a freebie to get you started too or you can choose one from Just Some Lines here.

For my card I’ve used Flying High by Just Some Lines and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers.I thought it would be interesting to make an easel card with an acetate back piece to make her zoom through the air 🙂 As it can be difficult to glue acetate without the adhesive showing through I adhered the cloud paper over the top. This also hid the white base card.I die cut a few clouds and added those as well.I chose some other papers from the same K & Co collection to make up the rest of the card along with a strip of coordinating card.I simply printed the wording on the computer and after cutting in to a banner shape I embellished it with a button threaded with paper twine.

Huge apologies to all at Just Some Lines DT.I’m late posting my card…I’ve gone down with a rather nasty virus and haven’t been able to venture out of bed much…sorry 😦

Rainy Days & Mondays

dscdt22ndapril 001

cyp&dscdt22ndapril 001

At Digi Sketch Challenge we have another new challenge and the theme this fortnight is Rain,Rain Go Away!We have the super Crafty Sentiments and Ellephantastic as our sponsors.

It’s the lovely Anne-Marie’s turn to host and here’s her fabby sketch :

You can follow the sketch, theme or even both.Hope you stop by the challenge site and check out my fellow DT’s beautiful creations.A truly inspirational bunch.

As you can see I’ve made two card and both use our sponsors images 🙂

For my top card I’ve used Mia by Crafty Sentiments and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers and used white gel pen to add highlights.Altho’ she’s not really designed as a rainy day image I’ve applied 3D Crystal Lacquer to her coat to give the appearance of a rain mac and also to her boots to make them look like wellies 😉 I’ve flicked a pale blue Copic Ciao Marker across the background and coated it with more lacquer for instant rain!I chose the papers, that I’ve had an age,to compliment the rainy feeling. All edges have had the Tim Holtz Paper Distresser treatment.A couple of  clouds have been sanded before being placed on the card.To finish the card a clear button has been threaded through some paper twine which has been wrapped around the border piece.

Supplies :

Image : Mia by Crafty Sentiments
Mediums : Copic Ciao Markers,Sakura White Gelly Roll Pen,3D Crystal Lacquer
Papers & Card : DP K & Co,Core’dinations Roy G.Biv 12 x 12 Cardstock Pad

To Embellish: Paper Twine and Clear Button from stash

For my second card I’ve used Emily Autumn by Ellephantastic and coloured her with ProMarkers this time, trying to incorporate as many of the new Spring/Summer Limited Edition colours.I’ve also gone for a different look by using pastel backing papers and card.I cut a circle frame to place behind the image from some Nellie’s  Multi Frame Circle Dies.I’ve not used them like this before but I really like it 🙂 I stamped a circular sentiment and added it to another one of the frames. Some acrylic dew drops have been used to embellish.

Supplies :

Image : Emily Autumn by Ellephantastic
Colouring Medium : ProMarkers
Papers & Card : DP Freebie Emma’s Garden from Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine,Bazzill Basics

Hangdog(s)

Just a reminder that the Reduce,Reuse,Recycle challenge at Just Some Lines  is still running until 11:59 pm EST on Thursday 15th November.Plenty of time to join us then! You could be in the running for a super prize. You need play along with a Just Some Lines image  to enter and one random winner will get a $12 Gift Certificate to spend in the shop.It doesn’t stop there tho’ as  the Top 3 will get one digi stamp each too! There is a freebie to get you started too or you can choose one from Just Some Lines here.

You know how you have an idea but never get round to doing it,well this was one of those times. For  a few years (yes!Years!!) I’d been thinking about making a hanging photo frame from one of these :

It’s a toddlers board book with puzzles inside. My SIL gave my DD1 a set of two depicting The Story of the Nativity  when shes was about two. She’s now 19 and my three other children enjoyed playing with them when there were younger. So much so the that they ended up quite tatty and some of the shiny coated paper had come away from the chipboard inside so they were no good to pass on to anyone else 😦 I hadn’t the heart to get rid of them so they’ve sat in a box in a cupboard for a looooong time.I saw the potential to make photo frames with them but never quite made the time to do it…until now…

I sliced off the portion I wanted to use with my trusty guillotine.Must admit I felt a little mean chopping this up at first but then realised that at least it would stay with us,just in a different form 🙂

I started by giving sanding it lightly to give a key to the shiny surface then covered it in dries white glue mixed with some white acrylic paint to cover up the bright colours.Once dry I lightly sanded it again to create a smooth surface then applied a tacky PVA glue.I then adhered some papers that I’d already prepared to fit.Next I painted around the edges allowing some of the paint to go onto the papers then dry brushing it out a little then coated it in watery PVA to make it a little more durable.Whilst I was waiting for it dry I layered up some paper flowers and added glitter glue to the ends of the petals and a gem to the centers.I then printed out two images,Rudis – hound dog style  and Rudis – refusal style both from Just Some Lines (I’m sure any dog owners will recognise those looks!),and coloured them with Copic Ciao Markers to make him look a little like our dog, including her white wonky upside down Y that runs down her chest.I also tried to recreate they way the light reflects on her shiny black coat.I lined the recesses where the puzzles once were with some card and punched two holes with my Crop-A-Dile and put some book rings through and tied on some ribbon which I recycled from the waistband on a pair of my old pyjamas.I cut some acetate to fit the frames then added some metal photo anchors, the flowers and the cute little dogs. These all secure the acetate into place.

I haven’t put any photo’s in yet as this is for my DD2 who absolutely adores our beautiful dog,Socks.I thought I’d let her choose her own favourites.I think if it was down to me this would definitely be one of them :

If you look closely yes,she is actually cuddling her duck (donated by DD2 as it is impossible to find soft dog toys without a squeaker – our dog is a squeakaphobic!) with her paws wrapped around him.She does that with us too.So sweet ♥

Up,up and away!

This week at Craft Your Passion it’s time for a photo inspiration challenge. We have the fabulous Some Odd Girl as our sponsor.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

Here’s a little peek at the pic :

For my card I’ve used A little lift from Just Some Lines. She’s been coloured with Copic Ciao Markers and the sky created with Distress Ink using a template from Bev Rochester’s blog All the Things I Love.I applied it with an old Kabuki makeup brush (thoroughly cleaned and dried first,of course!!),kind of squeezing the bristles into a point. This way it adds more definition to the edged of the inking and enables you to get in close to the image. When I first saw this photo the papers and image just popped into my head and just seemed so perfect. All the blue card is a lovely pearlised and textured card but not sure if this comes across in the photo.I added some brads and acute metal tab from a pack I picked up in a bargain bucket at my local craft warehouse.

Supplies :

Just a reminder that the Fall Colorchallenge at Just Some Lines  is still running until 11:59pm EST on Thursday 4th October.Plenty of time to join us then! You could be in the running for a super prize and if you play along with a Just Some Lines image  you can choose to create an Anything Goes project or follow the theme.

For my card I’ve used the adorable O’Little Fireman.Just look at that cute little puppy dog peeping out from behind him!I’ve coloured with Copic Ciao Markers and added White Souffle Pen highlights. His clothing maybe a little brighter than your average firefighters uniform but I thought I’d go with the colour theme on this one.Just had to use these K & Co papers, mounted on kraft, with him too.Metal embellishments seemed fitting for a boys card  so I added some brads, stamping the greeting in Stazon on the jumbo one.Rather than ribbon I wrapped some paper raffia around the border strip to carry on the Autumn/Fall flavour. This card is for my son who’s Birthday is today!!And don’t we know it…he’s been giving us a countdown on how many days ’til his Birthday for the last month!Bless 🙂

A clean sweep

People is the theme set for this week at Digi Doodle Shop Challenges. Please take a look at the challenge blog for details on how to play along and be in the chance to win a $10 Gift Certificate to spend at Digi Doodle Shop.Don’t forget to check out the wonderful DT work while you’re there.

I tried something different, well for me anyway!I’ve coloured this adorable Little Sweeper from Digi Doodle Shop in sepia tones.I have to be honest and I chucked my first attempt in the bin!Oh the shame 😦 I pride myself on NOT throwing stuff away! I tried to colour her skin in just the lighter tones I’d used for her clothing but she ended up looking grey faced so I chose pinkier beige tones and I’m a lot happier with the result 😀 I used a mix of pretty floral paper with a newspaper print one.Altho’ it’s a little difficult to see the bottom strip as I suddenly decided to lay some raffia lace ribbon over it.I layered some die cut flowers and chopped ’em up so they’d add interest to the top of the card.I finished it with some Distress Inked vintage seam binding and another flower topped with a wooden button one, tied with some paper twine.

Sadly this is my last post for Digi Doodle Shop Challenges. Not an easy decision but sometimes you have to make those kind of choices 😦 I started with the team back in October 2010 and I’d like to say thanks to Karen and Ruth for being great DT Leaders,to all the lovely crafters I’ve met through the team and of course Judy and her Mom for creating and providing the gorgeous images. Wishing you all the best for the future 🙂

Don’t forget the DT call is open until 8:00 pm EST tonight! So get in there quick if you’re interested!

The image I’ve used is the divine Rosalee by Delicious Doodles and she’s been coloured with FlexMarkers. The papers are by K & Co and I thought they’d be perfect for her.I’ve used the rose one inside too :

I printed out the sentiment on my computer.

I looped the ribbon on the front one end to make it look like leaves and pleated it the other.I adhered a kraft card rose, which I colour tinted on the edges using pearlescent paint and added a button to,on top.I glued the other buttons to the bottom flaps to act as handles.

My heart bear-longs to you!

With Valentine’s Day fast approaching four new digital stamps have been released especially for the occasion at Willow Designs. You can find this sweet little bear, called All my Heart ,alongside her friends in the Valentines digital stamps section. There may even be a couple of owls you recognise 😉 Pop on over and take a peek – they’re all super cute!

Although she has been designed with Valentine’s Day in mind I’m sure there are lots of other uses for her too.I’ve coloured her with FlexMarkers and added some white gel pen highlights. She’s been fussy cut and added to the oval with Pinflair Glue Gel.Some gingham ribbon has been ruffled along the bottom and die cut strips added down the sides. The pins, which were pearl ones until I topped them with some of the leftover hearts from the die cut, have been fixed in place behind the sentiment with foam tape to add more dimension.

Tip for Top Tip Tuesday : To save cutting into another piece of precious paper I die cut the plain oval from the background sheet and once mounted on card I adhered it over the hole.

Nobody would ever know – except I just told you 😉
