Born in a barn

Animals is the theme at Digi Doodle Shop Challenges this week. Please take a look at the challenge blog for details on how to play along and be in the chance to win a $10 Gift Certificate to spend at Digi Doodle Shop.Don’t forget to check out the beautiful DT work while you’re there.

Don’t forget to check my sidebar for this months specials over at the store. One is for a very good cause.

I really wanted to make this super image the focal point of a clean and simple card and then thought why not make it the card! It’s called Funny Farm from Digi Doodle Shop and I’ve coloured it using ProMarkers.Of course the only issue is that they bleed through the card but I always line my cards with an insert so problem solved.I touched up the woodwork with a white gel pen and used it to whiten the large animals eyes and the horses teeth.Veneers?Who needs ’em?!I trimmed it into square card then shaped it at the top.

This would make a great kid’s colouring page too.You could even laminate it to make it wipe clean so they could use it time and time again.Perfect for those rainy winter days.Speaking of laminating how cute would this look once coloured (either by you or the little ‘uns) then tuned into a placemat.Beacause you can resize digi’s you could also produce matching coasters!Wouldn’t that make a fabby gift too?

Image : Funny Farm from Digi Doodle Shop
Colouring Mediums : ProMarkers,Sakura White Gel Pen
Base card : Craft Essentials A4 White Card Pack (only 99p for 20 sheets at The Works!Best card for alcohol markers in my opinion – no bleeding and no inkjet smears!)
Tools : X-cut guillotine,decoupage scissors

Here’s the photo :

For my card I’ve used the delightful Falling Ants  from Doodle Pantry. It’s actually a set and comes with 3 main images,2 flowers and 4 sentiments!Such value for money.I’ve coloured this image with Koh-I-Noor Gioconda Soft Pastel Pencils on kraft card and set them with a fixative. He’s been cut out with Eastern Ovals Nellie’s Multi Frame Dies. The card base has been cut from kraft too with the bottom corners rounded with a Siesta Large Corner Rounder Punch. The edges of have been inked with Tangelo,Potter’s Clay and a teeny amount of Rich Cocoa. The papers came with a freebie calendar from Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine last year(!) This has been layered onto some orange and  brown card from my stash.I’ve used a EK Success Large  Edger Hawaiian Flower Punch on the bottom layer. The sentiment from the same set as the ant image has been positioned and printed straight onto the base.I think this could be used in many different ways to express different kinds of thankfulness.Coupled with this cute image I’d like it to convey how we should appreciate the enjoyable times we get to spend with those closest to us,our family. Some natural raffia, copper brads and a copper Creative Expressions Craft Stapler Daisy have been used to embellish.

For my card I’ve used the cute Santa Baby & Tree from Digi Doodle Shop.He looks like he’s having a little trouble doesn’t he?It’d be no good him asking me – I’d probably be worse at it than him!One of my pet hates. But once the whole thing’s decorated and everything’s twinkling away I’m a very happy bunny indeed! He’s printed onto kraft and coloured with Copic Ciao Markers.I’ve used flicky strokes to create some texture to the tree and didn’t think it’d turned out too bad for a first attempt. The trims on his clothing and the snow have been coloured with a Sakura White Gel pen.I also added highlights to his cheeks and the light bulbs before adding Glossy Accents to them. The papers are Basic Grey Jovial and the cardstock is Kars Christmas Collection and kraft from my stash. The topper has been cut from Standard and Classic Scallop Circle Nestabilities. The border has been punched with a Martha Stewart  Aspen Edger. The ticket is a freebie from The Beary Scrap and has also been coloured with Copics and Glossy Accents on the berries.Kars Christmas Collection Ribbon and some threaded buttons have been added to complete the card.

For my card I’ve used the delightful Winnie in Earmuffs from the Walter and Winnie does Christmas CD-rom available at Willow Designs.I’ve gone for a slightly different look, well for me anyway,by printing the image onto smooth cardstock and watercolouring  with an Aquamarine AquaMarker using a waterbrush.I added some glittery tinsel stuff that was a freebie in a past issue of Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine to add fluffiness to her earmuffs.I cut the panels from some more white card and embossed with a Cuttlebug Swiss Dots folder and a Papermania A Silent Night – Snowflakes one.I used the Tim Holtz Paper Distresser around the edges before applying some glitter glue, another Cardmaking and Paper craft mag freebie (from last year!) to carry through the aqua tones.I added some white organza ribbon to pretty it up.

Bunnies can’t yodel…but they can ski!

At Craft Your Passion the challenge is Let It Snow this week.We have a fabulous sponsor too – Dig’i’s by Phooka. So head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

I’ve used the totally adorable Skiing Bunny from Digi’s by Phooka and he’s been coloured with Copic Sketch and Ciao Markers.I gave a fluffy look to the trims on his hat with Polar White Flower Soft.As soon as I saw him I knew I had to have a go at making this slider card that I’d seen designed by Sharon Armstrong (of Willow Designs fame) in issue 98 of Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine. The papers are Dovecraft Christmas Fancy and the cardstock is a mix of white pearlescent Kars Christmas Collection and the textured pearlescent blue is from my stash.I’ve added Crystal Glamour Dust to the snowflakes on the paper. The ‘stick’ is a Copic Marker coloured cottonbud stem with the ends snipped off and I’ve added a hand cut flag stamped with Jet Black Archival ink using a sentiment from the freebie stamps set from the same issue.I would’ve like longer stick to create a finishing line with a full banner going between the two but I couldn’t find anything that would fit the bill.Never mind.As for the title of my post I apologise if you’ve never heard of Raving Rabbids and if you have TV Party you’ll know that in one of the minigames  the lederhosen clad bunnies do yodel when they’re shot with a plunger. It was the only thing that sprang to mind.

Here are some challenges this is for :

Now on to my card.I’ve used this adorable Christmas Penguin from Digi Doodle Shop. Not only do you get this one you’ll receive him with a plain bauble – you can add your own message if you’d like!I’ve coloured him with ProMarkers and created some texture to his hat trims using Woodware White Fluffy Stuff.Believe me this is am amazing product -you MUST try it!I’ve defined the capital letters on the bauble with a Sky Blue Copic Atyou Spica pen before coating it in Glossy Accents.Black Soot and Broken China Distress Inks have applied to the edges. The backing piece of Core’dinations Gemstones card has been embossed with a Papermania A Silent Night folder. The edge of the vellum overlay has been punched with a Martha Stewart Aspen Edger. Some of the leftover snowflakes have been placed onto some punched from more Gemstones card using the matching corner punch.Teeny Crafts Too gems have been to the centres.More gems in the next size up have been used to cover up where I glued the vellum.Another piece of Gemstones card,in black, has been used to mount the whole image to define it from the background. A freebie sentiment stamp from a set in this month’s Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine inked with Jet Black Archival ink completes the card.

Piec(ing) and quiet

It’s Anything Goes plus Brown at Craft Your Passion this week.We have 3 fabulous sponsors ; Bearly Mine Designs,Sassy Studio Designs and Crop Chocolate .So head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

The image on my card is the cosy looking Cocoa Carol from Sassy Studio Designs . Now I know there are loads of computer competent people who’ve done this squillions of times and probably with their eyes shut but I finally managed to DIGITALLY PAPER PIECE!!Apart from her hair, face, hands and feet, which are coloured with Copic Ciaos and Sketch Markers,I added these delicious Cheery Days papers from Bearly Mine Designs to the digi stamp.I was delighted when I bought my new PC earlier this year and discovered I had Photoshop Elements installed on it but how disappointed did I feel that I hadn’t got the brain to use it?!So apart from manipulating the odd photo and adding a watermark I didn’t really use it 😦 But I found a great tutorial from Papercraft Inspirations and one I could understand!I didn’t realise it could be so easy.Other than fussy cutting the image at least I didn’t have to cut out all those fiddly little pieces of paper that I then lose and have to scrabble about to find nor waste valuable ink printing out several times! Her mug has been given a few coats of Clear Glaze Pen for a ceramic feel.I did print out more these perfectly colour coodinated papers to layer up on the card tho’ and added some depth by applying some Frayed Burlap Distress Ink around the edges. For some reason the card looks black but IRL it matches the ribbon.I used some 3 Birds alphabet stamps and Coffee Archival Ink to create the sentiment. The card has been finished off with some chocolate (what better!) pearls.

Some challenges this is for :
OSAAT : Use a digi
The Crafty Pad : Paper Piecing (hope this still counts.Pleeeeaaaase – I’m so happy that I did it!)
