At Craft Your Passion this week the challenge is “We Washi You A Merry Christmas”.We have the fabulous 2 Cute Ink as our sponsor too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.
Here I’ve printed the adorable Gingerbread Girl by 2 Cute Ink directly onto my kraft card base and coloured her with PolyChromos Pencils blended out with low odour oils thinners using paper stumps. The white icing is a Souffle´pen.I added a couple of strips of washi tape down the side and topped it with a die cut flower with this sweet brad through the centre. The sentiment was stamped directly onto the base too.I’m so late making my card this year…this is kind of my signature style for this season.
After finding a few tutorials on how to make you own washi tape I thought I’d like to give it a go.I didn’t have the Scotch Magic Tape they suggested but thought I’d try it with some cheap clear sticky tape (99p for 2 rolls in The Works). It’s quite easy to do.Basically you stick the tape to your chosen patterned papers using a bone folder to eliminate air bubbles (I found it easier to trim it afterwards).Soak in water for approx. 10-20 seconds.Gently rub the paper off the pad of your finger whilst it’s under the water. It’s more about the soaking than the rubbing so if it doesn’t come off easily leave it in the water until it does so you don’t scratch the pattern.BUT of course the hardest part was waiting for it to dry…lol… 😀
This is a great technique as you are not limited design wise and you can match it to coordinate with any of your craft collections.Best of all you get to use your scraps! How many of those leftover strips of paper do we end up with?
This is the result :
For this one I printed out the equally loveable Gingerbread Boy by 2 Cute Ink using the same colouring methods. The washi tape turned out not too bad,eh?Was a bit worried how it would look against the kraft but I think it’s OK 🙂 Maybe the matte tape would give a more authentic look than regular tape however I don’t mind.If you give this a try yourself you MUST remember to use adhesive on the back of the tape strips 😉 This time I finished it off by adding a glittered chipboard piece with a cute gingerbread man brad from the same collection as the papers I used.A different sentiment has been stamped to mix it up a little.
