A spook-tacular Halloween!

Just a reminder that the Anything Halloween challenge at Just Some Lines  is still running until 11:59pm EST on Thursday 1st November.Plenty of time to join us then! You could be in the running for a super prize and if you play along with a Just Some Lines image  you can choose to create an Anything Goes project or follow the theme.

This is my first attempt at a wall hanging featuring  the spook-tacular Halloween Little Ghost from Just Some Lines.I’m quite pleased that I managed to compose the background digitally using the Summertime Designs A Boo-tiful Night Papers,Elements and Alphabet in Microsoft Power Point.Once printed out I felt it looked a little flat and it was hard to pick out the wording and the pumpkins at the front.I didn’t want to print them out again and layer them as I had already set out a plan in my mind.So I covered the words in Crackle Accents. Not only did it intensify the colour it gave a great effect :

For the pumpkins I used 2 layers, allowing to dry in between,of glaze pen. This enhanced the colour and added a waxy appearance similar to the real thing.Next I printed out the Halloween Little Ghost out twice onto smooth cardstock and once onto linen effect card.I coloured the hair, the part of the face that shows through the holes, stripey socks and shoes with Copic Ciao Markers.I then cut out the sheet from the linen effect card and shaded that with Copic Cioas plus the Blender.Because I didn’t want linen effect hands and they would stick out from under the sheet in real life once coloured I also cut them out.I shaped the card with my fingers and layered it up using 3-D Collall Glue Gel.Here’s a closer look at those :

To finish the piece I added some jute ribbon that I didn’t store properly and so it ended up tatty, but I think it fits well with the theme.Punched a couple of holes and fixed some eyelets with my Crop-A-Dile.I used some black wire to hang  it with and threaded some beads I recycled from a handbag embellishment onto the ends.

Con-tent-ed Swiss Pixie

The Sketchie Challenge for the Let’s Get Stamping group over at Craftbubble was set by Karen this week in the form of this sketch along with the twist of only using two colours :

As soon as I saw this layout I saw the potential to make another tent card.I’ve used an adorable Swiss Pixie stamp by CC Designs coloured with tones to compliment the colour scheme of the card.I’ve used the Out-of -the -Box technique and taken away the starkness of the cream card with Vintage Photo and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.The papers are freebies from Summertime Designs. Please read and respect her terms of use.The red and tan card are from my stash and the colours have been toned down with the same inks.I’ve used Standard Circle Nestabilities to cut the apeture and matting layers. The red one has been embossed with my new Cuttlebug Polka Dots folder and I’ve applied Frayed Burlap ink with a cotton bud to tie in with the ladybird.I found some tan eyelets in my stash and used some tan waxed cord to hang her up.The flowers have been cut from felt using the Tattered Florals Tim Holtz Sizzix die and because they were too vivid I took the colour down with more Distress Inks.I threaded some buttons with more cord before adding them to the centres.I adhered two pieces of raffia lace either side of the apeture then tied some red raffia around, splaying and tearing the ends.I feel these elements tie in with the Vintage/Rustic look of the card. The sentiment is from the same set and the flower on it has been coloured with ProMarkers. and the edges have been inked.

I’m going to enter the following challenges with this card :

Passion for ProMarkers – Anything goes

The ABC Challenge – V is for Vintage

A little gem

There was a theme of Burgundy,Pink and Green set at  A Gem of A Challenge along with an inspirational photo:

I’ve always loved this colour combo and it holds a special place in my heart too as they were my chosen Wedding Day colours.Originally it was going to be just pink and green so I think when I threw in this deep red shade my Step Mum was quite taken aback. But once she saw how well they worked together she soon came round.

I’ve used this colour scheme a lot in my cards in the past so I think that’s why when I went through my stash I found I had little of these colours left so I’ve had use some artistic license with the backing papers but I’ve stuck to them in the image … well except for the hint of sky… and I had to tie it in with the papers.

The stamp is a Pink Gem Designs one and she goes by the name of Summer Milly. She’s such a cutie as are all of the other images found there.I’ve coloured her with a selection of Promarkers, including Burgundy. The card is from my stash and the papers are a freebie from Summertime Designs.I’ve used a Hydrangeas Martha Stewart Edge punch to create the floral border. The bottom of the card has been embellished with some raffia lace and a length of Kars Christmas ribbon. The flowers are Prima and I’ve enhanced them using the same Promarkers as used in the image.I placed a spacer charm in the middle before adding the brad.

This card also qualifies for the following challenges :

Papertake Weekly : Say it with flowers

Stampavie and more : Flower Power

Pollycraft Monday Challenge : Summer Blooms

A Spoon Full of Sugar : Cute an Girly

Stamp Something : Two of Something (The two rows of punched flowers)

Birds Mellow Coffee … with Cream

I don’t know if anyone else remembers this or if it still exists?

This is a bit of a last minute entry for Die Cut Dreams Challenge with the theme Coffee and Cream. You had to use the colour combo, the drink or both. The only stamps I had were more tea than coffee orientated and I really wanted to get some ink on this little birdie from the Basic Grey Bitsy June Bug Bird Trio plus I needed something that didn’t require too much colouring.I’ ve used some Promarkers in creamy brown shades and the edge of the Nestabilities Scallop has had Desert Sand and Rich Cocoa Memento ink applied using a make-up sponge. The sentiment by Imaginisce has also had the same treatment. The gorgeous background papers are more designs by Summer Driggs. They are Brown Damask Paper and Brown Dots Paper from the Believe kit and they have also been antiqued with the Desert Sand ink.The brown card is Papermania Textured card. The cream card has been embossed with the Swiss Dots Cuttlebug folder and inked too.I’ve also used my new E K Success Dotted Wave punch and some buttons with waxed cord threaded and knotted.

More Polar bears and scrummy papers

Here are the cards I made for my three younger children to give to their teachers and classroom assistants.

A closer view:

I’ve broken my golden rule – naughty me!!I usually try to make my cards one-offs but time was of the essence so I ended up making them all the same.Still it gave me the excuse to use lots of these most delicious papers and the cute Polar bear.Again I’ve used Summertime Designs Winter Gifts kit but this time it’s the Snowflakes and Blue Dots. The latter has been printed onto card to mat the image and sentiment on.I selected the Promarkers I thought would compliment the colours of the papers best and used Circle and Inverted Scalloped Circle Nestabilities. The scalloped edge pieces were cut with Sizzix Decorative Strip Lace Edging on my Big Shot.I’ve also been to work with my trusty Paper Distresser.

Just dotty about this bear!

Happy New Year!

As you can see it’s a while since I last posted anything.I was just so caught up in all the preparations for Christmas and the event itself, of course. It didn’t help that my DH decided to give me the early present of the most stinkingest cold I’ve ever had.Still I managed to soldier on and cook Christmas lunch and feed and water our guests over the festive period. As well as find time to spend with my babies as they were on school hols.

Anyway back to cards – my favourite subject!

I made this as a Sketchie Challenge for the Let’s Get Stamping  group at Craftbubble ages ago.

This is the sketch with the twist being to use one colour paper only with black, white or cream.

I came across this gorgeous paper quite by accident whilst nosing around someone elses blog. They are designed by Summer Driggs who very generously allows her digital scrap kits to be used free for personal use.You can find them on her blog here.

For this card I have used Polka Dots Blue from the Winter Gifts kit.I chose to make the circle layer the front of the card.

Here’s the inside:

Both stamps are by Imaginisce and I still can’t get over the fact that these stamps are only 99p each!!The Polar bear has been coloured in Promarkers – what else. The sentiment has been stamped in a mixture of Momento ink and Cool Aqua Promarker.Remembering to clean the stamp quickly as the markers are alcohol based. The oval Nestie has been edged with the same shade to give the illusion of an added layer. All edges have been given the Tim Holtz Paper Distresser treatment and a few square gems complete the icy feel to the card.
