digi paper CD copy

So meet the delightful Hedgehog – Hello!¬†by Crafty Sentiments Designs. He’s available as a rubber stamp and here I’ve coloured him in Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers.I decided I’d give him a setting and to be honest I can always do with a bit of practice on creating backgrounds ūüėČ Not sure if it’s the angle of the notebook or the lens, maybe both, but hedgie on the right looks as tho’ he’s been more slugs n’ snails. But rest assured they are definitely following the same diet.

Here’s a side by side piccie :

csgdt8thjuly 002

I decided to make a card and notepad set just for something a little different…I chose these papers with a woodsy/countryside feel to them. Then¬†teamed them with some kraft and lifted¬†the reddy pink with coordinating card. There was already a sentiment on the woodgrain piece on the card so I thought I’d utilise that and cut the flowers out again from a second sheet and layered them up,slightly overlapping the bottom corner of the butterfly paper. The ric rac was a little too pale so I toned it in to match with a Copic Ciao Marker. This has been topped with a jute twine threaded button. The same papers were used on the notepad and¬†I made new covers out of kraft. The butterfly paper was turned into a flower, ric rac for leaves and the button added to the centre.

I decided to have another crack at watercolouring thinking it would tie in with the softer palette of the challenge ūüôā I chose the beautiful Breeze in Spring¬†by¬†A Day For Daisies¬†and printed her on watercolour paper.Next I used AquaMarkers and a slightly damp paintbrush to delicately shade her.Bit unsure of my skill level here but she’s such a sweet ,tender thing I don’t think it matters too much ūüėČ I pulled out some pretty pastel papers and pink card to go with her,a trio¬†of my favourite punches¬†(that I don’t use often enough!)¬†¬†along with a few pearls and my new bow die that arrived in the post just in time for me to use o this card ūüėÄ

Oh,sew pretty!

For my card I’ve used the adorable Kaye – Thinking of You by Crafty Sentiments and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers.I’ve used a kraft card blank as the base and another for the die cut elements. This has teamed with some very pretty Papermania Vintage Notes papers. These have a lovely linen texture so thought they would be good to go with the theme ūüôā Apart from using various die cuts and punches I’ve layered up a few bits and pieces from the Vintage Notes collection (they came in the Goody Bag when they were first released). The little calendar and pink ticket were cut from a sheet of the paper.I went a teency bit crazy when it came to the sewing related items.I wonder if you can spot them all?!More to point I wonder if I can remember them all? ūüėČ Well…. there’s stitching(all hand done!),ribbons, lace, buttons, pins, snap fasteners, hook and eye fasteners, the felt for the flowers (yes,I’m counting that) and anything else you may have spotted that I’ve left off my list. Now the safety pin is a bit of a fraud as it’s a plastic embellishment my S-I-L gave me,along with some other stuff for my card making.I added it at the last moment but it does still tie in with the theme ūüėČ

Just a reminder that the Reduce,Reuse,Recycle¬†challenge at¬†Just Some Lines¬†¬†is still running until¬†11:59 pm EST on Thursday 15th November.Plenty of time to join us then! You could be in the running for a super prize. You need play along with a¬†Just Some Lines¬†image ¬†to enter and one random winner will get a $12 Gift¬†Certificate to spend in the shop.It doesn’t stop¬†there¬†tho’ as¬†¬†the Top 3 will get one digi stamp each too! There is a freebie to get you started too or you can choose one from Just Some Lines here.

You know how you have an idea but never get round to doing it,well this was one of those times. For ¬†a few¬†years (yes!Years!!) I’d been thinking about making a hanging photo frame from one of these :

It’s a toddlers board book with puzzles inside. My SIL gave my DD1 a set of two¬†depicting¬†The Story of the Nativity ¬†when shes was about two. She’s now 19 and my three other children enjoyed playing with them when there were younger. So much so the that they ended up quite tatty and some of the shiny coated paper had come away from the chipboard inside so they were no good to pass on to anyone else ūüė¶ I hadn’t the heart to get rid of them so they’ve sat in a box in a cupboard for a looooong time.I saw the potential to make photo frames with them but never quite made the time to do it…until now…

I sliced off the portion I wanted to use with my trusty guillotine.Must admit I felt a little mean chopping this up at first but then realised that at least it would stay with us,just in a¬†different¬†form ūüôā

I started by giving sanding it lightly to give a key to the shiny surface then covered it in dries white glue mixed with some white acrylic paint to cover up the bright colours.Once dry I lightly sanded it again to create a smooth surface then applied a tacky PVA glue.I then adhered some papers that I’d¬†already¬†prepared to fit.Next I painted around the edges allowing some of the paint to go onto the papers then dry brushing it out a little then coated it in watery PVA to make it a little more durable.Whilst I was waiting for it dry I layered up some paper flowers and added glitter glue to the ends of the petals and a gem to the centers.I then printed out two images,Rudis – hound dog style¬†¬†and Rudis – refusal style¬†both from Just Some Lines¬†(I’m sure any dog owners will recognise those looks!),and coloured them with Copic Ciao Markers to make him look a little like our dog,¬†including¬†her white wonky upside down Y that runs down her chest.I also tried to recreate they way the light reflects on her shiny black coat.I lined the recesses¬†where¬†the puzzles once were with some card and punched two holes with my Crop-A-Dile and put some book rings through and tied on some ribbon which I recycled from the waistband on a pair of my old pyjamas.I cut some acetate to fit the frames then added some metal photo anchors, the flowers and the cute little dogs. These all secure the acetate into place.

I haven’t put any photo’s in yet as this is for my DD2 who absolutely adores our beautiful dog,Socks.I thought I’d let her choose her own favourites.I think if it was down to me this would definitely be one of them :

If you look closely yes,she is actually cuddling her duck (donated by DD2 as it is impossible to find soft dog toys without a squeaker Рour dog is a squeakaphobic!) with her paws wrapped around him.She does that with us too.So sweet ♥

Tagging along fairy-ly

It’s my turn to host at Willow Sketchie¬†Challenge¬†this week and here’s my sketch :

Well I’ve pushed the boat out¬†and¬†created a card with a matching tag,had to really as it was all my big idea, featuring Fairy Dance digital stamp from Willow Designs. She’s been coloured with Copic Sketch and Ciao Markers and been given Glamour Dust wings.I made both bases for the card and tag with kraft card and layered up some Polly Pickleberry CD-rom papers onto some coordinating card.I stamped a couple of¬†sentiments¬†and added one to tag to tie onto my card. The other is the focal point of the tag, embellished with some teeny star gems and more Glamour Dust.I picked out the aqua colour highlights from the bird backing paper and twisted two shades of floss together. The ribbon is from atop I bought. It’s the pieces that hold clothes on the hanger. Not sure how I manage it but no matter how much ribbon I buy it’s always¬†these¬†that¬†match¬†a project perfectly ūüėÄ

There have been a few changes at Willow Sketchie Challlenge. We still have our fabby sketches, like this one provided by Miria :

There’s also a theme to use Ribbon or Twine. But here’s the difference. You can choose to follow the sketch and/or the theme set every week from now on.Of course some things are still the same.Like the super prize of a voucher for one lucky winner to spend at Willow Designs and the fabulous inspiration from the DT.Hop on over to check out the¬†challenge¬†and their work!

Apart from providing the sketch it’s sadly Miria’s last challenge with us.It’s been a joy working with you and sharing your beautiful creations.

Now onto my card.I’ve used an image, coloured with Promarkers, from the Polly Pickleberry CD-rom by Willow Designs¬†only this time I’ve teamed her with one of Sharon’s super new paper collections also available at Willow Designs. This is the Cool Meadows Collection. There is also one called Crazy Daisy. As well as the papers there are also some sentiments and¬†square¬†panels.I’ve used them layered up on my card.As the panels have rounded corners I decided to carry this through the rest of the card. Some pearls and paper twine have been used to complete the card.I’m thinking that in these colours Polly is looking a little like Alice.Particularly in the Disneyfied¬†version.I love both the film and the book and although I’m the daydreamer like Alice I’m mostly akin to the white rabbit – “I’m late!I’m late! For a very important date!”Yep,every single one.

Supplies :

A monster of a Birthday

Here’s a card I¬†made for my DD1’s Boyfriend. The image is a freebie I picked up at Bugaboo Stamps a while back, printed onto ivory cardstock and coloured with AquaMarkers and a water brush.White gel pen was added to whiten his eyes and teeth plus the highlights on the balloon. You can just make out the Glossy Accents applied to the balloon too.The papers are K & Co and the cardstock is from my stash.I’ve used a Large Corner Rounder Punch and a Small one on the computer generated sentiment.Yup I made that one up myself!LOL.The Brads are Primary Making Memories and the string is cut from a price tag¬†off an item of clothing.

Although I still think this looks like a kid’s card apparently he liked it!Having said that he is still¬†a little like a kid – into his yo-yo’s and skateboarding. When do they ever grow up?!

Birds of a feather

It’s Hazel’s turn to host the Willow Sketchie Challenge this week and here’s her fabby sketch with the twist of seeing snowflakes on your card :

We have a fantastic prize on offer :

For my card I’ve used Walter and Mr Robin, the pre-coloured image, along with some matching papers from Winnie and Walter does Christmas CD-rom by Willow Designs.I’ve added a little touch of Crystal Glamour Dust and Glossy Accents give him a twinkle in his eyes.¬†Various Nestabilities have been used to cut the mats and¬†the corners have been adorned with the¬†Martha Stewart Aspen Corner Punch. The¬†snowflakes are also made with the same punch and tiny¬†clear gems placed in the centres.I’ve used some Papermania Christmas cardstock to layer¬†all the papers on to.The corners have been rounded with a small Siesta punch.

Don’t forget Sharon Armstrong will be appearing on Create¬†and Craft at 8 am and 2 pm on 17th October with this very CD-rom!!Us DT are extremely excited as we’ve been making samples to be shown on the telly!!¬†What a great opportunity – thanks Sharon!!

A precious coat

Over at Willow Sketchie Challenge we have  a fabby sketch from Shell :

This is her debut as hostess and very first sketch!

For my card I’ve used Precious from Willow Designs. Not only do you get a pre-coloured and digi¬†stamp you also get a matching backing paper too!I’ve coloured her with ProMarkers¬†and added some touches of Copic¬†Atyou¬†Spica pens. You may have noticed she also has a coat of Precious paper.I paper pieced this.Keep reading and you will get to a tutorial on how to do this with digi’s!¬†I’ve added some texture with an embossing folder and added some coloured staples for extra interest. The little stapler is only 99p from The Works and comes with a selection of different colours of staples.

Here’s a close up to hopefully show some sparkle :

Supplies :
Image : Precious from Willow Designs
Sentiment : From Pink Cat Studio Fairy Friends plate stamped in Jet Black Archival Ink
Colouring Mediums : ProMarkers including Blender on sky,Copic Atyou Spica pens in Pink (gems on crown),Clear (star on wand) and Silver (buckles on shoes)
Papers & Card : Precious backing paper that comes with the image, Papermania Textured Capsule A4 Colossal Pack
Adhesive : Cosmic Shimmer Specialist Craft PVA
Tools : X-Cut Guillotine,Siesta Small Corner Rounder,Nellie’s Multi Frame Dies Squares,Nestabilities Classic Squares Large,Crafts Too Stars Embossing Folder,Big Shot,Mini Stapler
Embellishments : Coloured Mini Staples

Here is the tutorial.

The weather has been very cloudy so the light wasn’t too fantastic but you should get the gist :

First print your image onto copy paper.Note which way the paper comes out of your printer. Here I’ve marked an arrow to remind me which way to feed it back in.

I’ve resized the Precious paper at 25% in paint. That’s the beauty of digi papers! If using Designer¬†Papers just choose a small pattern. They work better.

Next trim down the paper to fit the part you want to paper piece. Not only does this allow you to choose which part of¬†¬†the pattern you want to use it also saves waste if you’re using your favourite papers. This technique is good for using your scraps too.I’ve adhered it using a Stix 2 Removable Tape Pen (the green one). You can also use low-tack masking tape but you must take care NOT to place this over any part you want¬†to print ¬†out. How do I know?Hee hee, through experience!

Pop you paper back into your printer making sure you’ve got it the right way round and print again.Although in this instance the image has printed a second time perfectly aligned the reason for printing out on ordinary paper is this isn’t always the case.

Print your image out onto the piece of cardstock you want to use on your finished project.

Cut out and colour as desired. Here I’ve cut out her coat using decoupage scissors to make sure I’ve got all round the finer details. It’s been stuck in place using a good quality¬†PVA glue to make it easier to slide it into position.Use this sparingly as you don’t want it to wrinkle.I’ve stuck this down flat but you could shape¬†the¬†paper using your fingers and add some lift with some Pinflair Glue Gel.

Hope you give this a go.It’s such a fun way to add detail to your images and coordinates¬†them beautifully to the rest of your work.

Any questions on this don’t hesitate to ask.
