The challenge at Crafty Sentiments this week is Include a Heart.Drop on by to join in the fun and be in with the chance of winning a super prize.Don’t forget to take a look at some fabulous inspiration by the talented DT while you’re there.

So with Valentine’s Day looming closer I thought I’d pick (no pun intended – well, maybe a little) the delightful¬†Roses Are Red by Crafty Sentiments Designs¬†.Coloured up with Copic Ciao and Sketch Markers. The young lady has been given a little more blush to her cheeks than I usually add as I felt she was a bit coy at this romantic gesture. Now if it were me I think I would pass out with sheer shock if my DH presented me with a red rose!I tried not to make this too girly as this will actually be for him.Altho’ I say that…a flowery patterned paper magically appeared along with a rose embossed border and some ribbon – but at least it’s navy blue ūüėõ As I’m just a teensy bit fussy I die cut the card base from a regular 8 x 8 card blank then overlaid it with a matching die cut piece of textured card so that I got the whole shape.Personally I just don’t like those missed/straight bits when doing it myself.Because I grabbed the sentiment from a set that was to hand and as I felt it was on the¬†small side I added a heart shaped brad underneath.By my own admission this is a lazy way to add a design feature but it works ūüėČ

Meet the beautiful Aurora ‘Vine’¬†by¬†The East Wind. She’s been coloured with Copic Ciao Markers and,if you look carefully, there are touches of Glamour Dust on the roses in her hair, eye shadow, gloves and shoes.I created¬†a shaped card to accommodate this beauty made up ,mostly,of pastel card with a lovely spotty paper. The lilac card has been embossed. Some ribbon and a baker’s twine threaded flower button have been added along with some rolled roses to compliment the ones in her hair.I’ve sat these on die cut flowers with an¬†arrangement of die cut leaves.Once these were in place I fussy cut the lovely gal including the landlocked areas cut with a craft knife.Just don’t scrutinise my knife skills – lack of them…lol ūüėÄ I popped her up on some foam pads for extra dimension.

Have a ‘horse-some’ Birthday!

cypdt31stmar 001

At¬†Craft Your¬†Passion¬†this week the challenge is Shaped Cards or Anything But Square. We have the fabulous¬†Doodle¬†Pantry¬†as our¬†sponsor too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don‚Äôt forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.

Well..I have to admit I own a Grand Calibur, some Grand Nesties and some Go Kreate Half XXL Frames…so why do I grab a square card every time?! Convenience…laziness…perhaps because they’re buried in the cupboard under stacks of other crafty stuff?Hmmm…not really sure :S So I decided to have fun creating a card with the super adorable Charlie Daisy by Doodle Pantry. Not only do you get Charlie himself (in both B/W outline and colour) you get a whole host of goodies including backing papers, sentiments and lots of other elements to print in¬†outline or colour form to use as embellishments or even as the focal point of your card ūüėÄ Firstly I coloured Charlie using¬†Copic Ciao Markers to coordinate with the papers.Next I pulled out my Grand Calibur and Go Kreate dies to cut the base card and a couple of layers.A panel featuring the other patterned paper has been set askew. As I wanted some texture I pulled out a piece of this wavy corrugated card and stapled a¬†length of raffia lace to it.To embellish I cut out a few pre-coloured daisies and butterflies, adding dots of 3D Crystal Lacquer to them and also to the butterfly that has landed, rather cheekily,on Charlie’s nose.I printed out the sentiment and to create the ‘lozenge’ shape I took the smaller version of the dies I cut the base from and gave them a quarter turn, then trimmed.I adhered it to the orange die cut piece then cut it down to make sure I got it right!Time for some more staples¬†ūüôā¬†I tend to add these on the wonk so there’s no pressure and disappointment when they’re not where they should be!!

Supplies :

Hand picked for you

Just a reminder that the Mother’s Day challenge at¬†Just Some Lines¬†¬†is still open. You could be in the running for a super prize. You need play along with a¬†Just Some Lines¬†image to enter and one random winner will get 4 digi stamps of their choice. It¬†doesn‚Äôt¬†stop¬†there¬†tho‚Äô as the Top 3 will get one digi stamp each too! There is a freebie to get you started too or you can choose one from Just Some Lines¬†here.

For my card I’ve used the sweet Mother’s Day -For You by Just Some Lines¬†and coloured it with Polychromos pencils and blended out the blue shaded bit around the image with some low odour oils¬†thinners. The sentiment comes with the digi stamp.I cut a base card out using these fab Go Kreate dies.I actually bought them in the January Sales but have only used them now for the first time.Ooooopsie…I then cut another piece the same size in green card. This means that you have the whole shape on the front of your card rather than the folded edge showing.I also trim a tiny slither off the¬†bottom¬†of the back of the card base for stability. This also¬†makes sure that the original shape isn’t spoiled.I die cut a mat of some pretty First Editions paper and layered a¬†length of satin ribbon over the top before¬†fixing¬†the green¬†piece¬†to the card front. The daisy border has¬†been¬†cut with my new Crafts Too die in green and pink card then I trimmed the flowers to fit over the top.I snipped the border in half to extend it across the width of the card. The sentiment was mounted onto a stamp shape from a Spellbinders set.The rather pretty¬†butterfly¬†was cut from a freebie die that came with a past issue of Simply Cards & Papercraft magazine. Some flat backed pearls have been used to¬†embellish.

Supplies :

Totally A-tealing!

cypdt21stjan 001

At Craft Your Passion this week the theme is Totally Teal.We have the fabulous Saturated Canary as our sponsor too. Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

For my card I’ve chosen the gorgeous Cerridwen¬†by Saturated Canary¬†and coloured her with Copic Ciao Markers, adding just the merest hint of lip shine with a white gel pen.I have to admit I’ve never been brave enough to colour one of these amazing images before :s …even tho’ I have a few.I really wanted to do a good job and once I stopped putting pressure on myself enjoyed the whole process ūüôā And isn’t what it’s supposed to be about?I will definitely have to colour more of these now and it’s taught me a lot on how to improve too.Altho’ I might not have done as a grand a job as some of the more able colourists out there I’m still quite pleased with the result.I’ve teamed her with some beautiful My Mind’s Eye papers (aren’t they all?) that seemed to fit the bill and rather luckily I’d stocked up on this card I found at my local craft warehouse.I picked up a Memento Dew Drop Ink Pad,one of the newest colours, there too ūüôā I cut a tiny strip of the floral paper and took the colours for the butterflies on the image and die cut flourishes from there.I prettied up the punched butterflies with some gems.I had actually planned to make the base card in the same shape as the layers but could I find my 8 x 8 card blanks? No,I could not…until I’d finished my card and tidied¬†everything¬†away!Typical!lol…Anyway this is my card and just hope I’ve done this gorgeous gal justice ūüôā

My kids like to pretend he is her puppy and when they ‘abandoned’ her to play in the snow she snuggled up to Sizzles instead.
She’s such a sweet‚ô•.She’s part ‘scary’ Staffie and part not so scary Whippet. But I like to call her a ‘Whiffie’.Which suits her very well!lol

Butterfly Wishes

jsldt19thjan 001 copy

For my card I’ve used the beautiful Emo – Happy Day¬†, a new release at Just Some¬†Lines¬†.Altho’ it doesn’t count as the ‘New’ part of the challenge I have tried a couple of techniques that I haven’t given a go before. The first is making a Circular Side Step Card.Oh My!Did this give me bother!I can’t tell you how much card I wasted,I’m far too¬†ashamed :0 As ¬†a rule I normally try new folds out on scrap paper first.BUT as loads of people said how it easy this was I ploughed ahead with my chosen card in hand.Mistake number 1 used the wrong sized Grand Nestie.Thinking I could work my way out of this I tried to alter the¬†measurements.Maths is NOT my strong point ūüė¶ Second attempt changed to correct Grand Nestie, just couldn’t fathom part of the folding process even tho’ there was a video as well as step by step with pics…eventually I got it right! Then promptly¬†decided¬†I wanted more depth on the part of the circle on the right (where the steps are) so made another cutting a shorter slit. That one worked too ūüôā Good job I’d just bought a ton of this card…which brings me¬†nicely¬†on to the ‘New’ part of the challenge – new stash!Plus the paper, just a shame it’s not showing how glittery it is.Well after colouring on kraft successfully with¬†different mediums I thought I’d give it a whirl on coloured card.I’ve used Polychromos pencils.Still need a bit more practice methinks but like the effect.I cut the tag on 2 different coloured cardstocks cutting away parts of the burnt orange one then stamping and¬†layering.I coloured the little butterfly on the sentiment with the same pencils.Added some pearls,a die cut leaf frond and some paper raffia which I also cut the¬†flowers from.

As we have about 5- 6 inches of snow on the ground and a promise of more on the way (!) I think using this pretty image and warm orangey shades is wishful thinking on my part ūüėČ Roll on Spring!

A spook-tacular Halloween!

Just a reminder that the Anything Halloween challenge at Just Some Lines  is still running until 11:59pm EST on Thursday 1st November.Plenty of time to join us then! You could be in the running for a super prize and if you play along with a Just Some Lines image  you can choose to create an Anything Goes project or follow the theme.

This is my first attempt at a wall hanging featuring ¬†the spook-tacular Halloween Little Ghost from Just Some Lines.I’m quite pleased that I¬†managed¬†to compose the background¬†digitally using the Summertime Designs A Boo-tiful¬†Night Papers,Elements and Alphabet in Microsoft Power Point.Once printed out I felt it looked a little flat and it was hard to pick out the wording and the¬†pumpkins¬†at the front.I¬†didn’t¬†want to print them out again and layer them as I had already set out a plan in my mind.So I covered the words in Crackle Accents. Not only did it intensify the colour it gave a great effect :

For the pumpkins I used 2 layers, allowing to dry in between,of glaze pen. This enhanced the colour and added a waxy appearance similar to the real thing.Next I printed out the Halloween Little Ghost out twice onto smooth cardstock and once onto linen effect card.I coloured the hair, the part of the face that shows through the holes, stripey socks and shoes with Copic Ciao Markers.I then cut out the sheet from the linen effect card and shaded that with Copic Cioas plus the Blender.Because I didn’t want linen effect hands and they would stick out from under the sheet in real life once coloured I also cut them out.I shaped the card with my fingers and¬†layered¬†it up using 3-D Collall Glue Gel.Here’s a closer look at those :

To finish the piece I added some jute ribbon that I¬†didn’t¬†store properly and so it ended up tatty, but I think it fits well with the theme.Punched a couple of holes and fixed some eyelets with my Crop-A-Dile.I used some black wire to hang ¬†it with and¬†threaded some beads I¬†recycled from a handbag embellishment onto the ends.
