Hatbox of delights

The challenge at Craft Your Passion this week is to use only two designer papers on your project. We have the fabulous Daisy Doodles as our sponsor this week.So head on over to play and check out the rules. Please take a look at the beautiful DT work while you’re there.

For my card I’ve used the beautiful Hatbox from Daisy Doodles.Rather than reach for the usual Promarkers I decided to paper piece the image.Altho’ I did manage to sneak a little in to create a shadow under the box – lol.I curved and shaped the papers and used silicone glue to give dimension. The flower, taken from the image printed onto plain white card, has been coloured with Copic Atyou Spica pens to give a glittery effect.I used my brand new Martha Stewart Cherish Punch Around The Page set for the first time and I LOVE it!!I attached the punched panel to a card base cut at just under 4″,to stop it being seen through the holes, that way I could still add an insert like a regular card – and so that it would stand up!I created a tag using the same Nesties the image is layered onto and tied it on through one of the holes.I found these pearls in my stash and thought they’d be the perfect colour to finish the card.

How does your garden grow?

This week the challenge at Pear Tree Designs is ‘BEST WISHES’.So any creation featuring these very words is the order of the week!We also have the fabby Lilac Lemon Designs as sponsors this time too.So head on over for details on how to play along.Don’t  forget to check out the wonderful DT inspiration and welcome Susie as our new member!

I’ve used a stamp from the Cute Characters Set 1 and coloured her with Promarkers. The sentiment is from the same sheet. The papers are a freebie My Minds Eye pad that came with a past issue of Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine. The coloured card is Papermania Textured.I’ve used a mix of Nestabilities Classic Ovals and Classic Scallop dies.To create the tag I punched a hole with my Crop-o-Dile and set a heart shaped eyelet and threaded it onto a length of waxed cord.I cut some felt flowers with the Tim Holtz Tattered Florals Sizzix die and topped them with some square Papermania buttons also threaded with the same cord.I used a large corner rounder punch too to add some interest.

A bit sheepish

This weeks challenge at Pear Tree Designs is ‘Animals’.As ever there is a fabby prize up for grabs. The Character Cafe are offering a mix of digital stamps for one lucky winner. So why not play along and take a look at the brilliant DT creations?

For my card I used one of Donna’s digital images from Pear Tree Designs Digital Images. This one is called Sheepie.I merged and resized two of him, flipping one so he faced the other way.I then coloured them with Promarkers and used chalk to create the grass and sky.I printed out a separate image coloured his ears and face with Promakers again.I applied a coating of Snow Marker, let it dry, then dotted some more on then allowed it to dry before giving it a blast with my heat gun to create a fluffy fleece.I cut him out very carefully – making sure I didn’t turn him into lamb chops!!I adhered him over the top using silicone on his body and PVA on his ear and legs. The patterned papers are K & Co and the green card is So Mod Core’dinations. I made the holes with a Cutter Bee Piercing Bug and drew some wobbly lines with a fine liner pen. This is a perfect example of  how my sewing would look if it were real!I roughed up the edges with the Tim Holtz Paper Distresser.I saw this style of card demo’ed by Debbie Moore on Create and Craft and thought it would suit this cute ‘n’ quirky image.I fixed some eyelets for strength before threading the fibres through, added a tag with a computer generated message, then tied it together.I found the large eyelet in a matching shade of pink so I added it to complete the card.

I do refer to Sheepie as a he but I suppose technically she’s a girl!I’m not quite sure who I’d give this card to.Maybe if  DD1 does as well as expected in her exams it could quite well be a card for her.It makes a change from the usual congratulations doesn’t it?

This weeks challenge at Pear Tree Designs is in the form of a sketch set by Donna :

Our sponsors this time are Lilac Lemon Designs and they are offering 2 stamps – Ballet Shoes and Plane.I own some of their stamps and I can say just how good they are.So why not pop on over become a Follower and grab yourself the chance to win!!

I just LOVE this stamp.Well I don’t think there are too many I don’t like! But she’s such a sweetie.I thought I’d use some nice  fruity Summery colours to go with the (little) bit of sunshine we’ve had of late. She’s been coloured with Promarkers and I’ve applied Diamond Stickles to the edges of her wings and ends of her antennae.I’ve sponged Desert Sand Memento ink around the edges. The papers are K & Co and the coloured card is Core’dinations So Mod.I’ve created the pelmet using a Martha Stewart Scallop Two Dot  punch and inked it.I used my Crop-o-Dile to fix the hexagonal eyelets then threaded some ribbob I cut from a top. They’re the pieces that hold it on the hanger.I used a Lip Pattern punch on all corners.

I’m going to enter it in these challenges :

Papertake Weekly : Ice cream flavours.I’m going all posh here with blackcurrant sorbet topped with a sprig of mint (guess who watches too many cookery programmes)

Beer Monster

I made this card for my DH from me for Father’s Day.The kids thought it was hilarious and DH loved it.Phew.

He’s a freebie from PollyCraft and I’ve coloured him with Promarkers.I’ve given the glass a coating of Glossy Accents and added an extra dribble running down the glass.I didn’t put it there because I stuck my finger in it to test if it was dry and leave a great fingerprint in it,you understand(if you believe that you’ll believe anything). And I glazed his eyes with some too or maybe he’s wearing his ‘ Beer Goggles’ ?Here’s a closer peek:

I inked round the edges in Crushed Olive and Pumice Stone Distress Inks.I created the greeting on the computer. It was intended as a way of saying Thank You to my DH for being a great Dad as well as fiting the image. I added the same inks to the edges. The papers are Basic Grey Archaic. All the shaped pieces have been cut using Nestabilities Labels 4 with the dark green one being passed through a Cuttlebug Seeing Spots folder and lightly sanded. The square eyelets are from when I bought the first Crop-o-Dile and the round ones are quicklets I had from before I had any kind of eyelet setter. The snake skin piece is an old belt that I took the backing off and then adhered using Glossy Accents.

These are the challenges :

The Cuttlebug Spot – Laying out at the Spot

Lexi’s Creations – Something old (belt and eyelets)

Paper Play – Something Old (same reasons)

Con-tent-ed Swiss Pixie

The Sketchie Challenge for the Let’s Get Stamping group over at Craftbubble was set by Karen this week in the form of this sketch along with the twist of only using two colours :

As soon as I saw this layout I saw the potential to make another tent card.I’ve used an adorable Swiss Pixie stamp by CC Designs coloured with tones to compliment the colour scheme of the card.I’ve used the Out-of -the -Box technique and taken away the starkness of the cream card with Vintage Photo and Frayed Burlap Distress Ink.The papers are freebies from Summertime Designs. Please read and respect her terms of use.The red and tan card are from my stash and the colours have been toned down with the same inks.I’ve used Standard Circle Nestabilities to cut the apeture and matting layers. The red one has been embossed with my new Cuttlebug Polka Dots folder and I’ve applied Frayed Burlap ink with a cotton bud to tie in with the ladybird.I found some tan eyelets in my stash and used some tan waxed cord to hang her up.The flowers have been cut from felt using the Tattered Florals Tim Holtz Sizzix die and because they were too vivid I took the colour down with more Distress Inks.I threaded some buttons with more cord before adding them to the centres.I adhered two pieces of raffia lace either side of the apeture then tied some red raffia around, splaying and tearing the ends.I feel these elements tie in with the Vintage/Rustic look of the card. The sentiment is from the same set and the flower on it has been coloured with ProMarkers. and the edges have been inked.

I’m going to enter the following challenges with this card :

A floral delight!

It’s the day of the second Pear Tree Designs challenge so here’s my DT card. The theme this week is Floral Delights so that means we would like you to create a card/project that incudes flowers somewhere on it.We also have Stitchy Bear Stamps as a sponsor and they are offering one lucky winner 4 x digital images from their store!

I chose the rather gorgeous Fae Away image to work with. She’s been coloured with Promarkers.I also wanted to try my hand at a tent card as I thought it would give her the chance to fly.The base card has been cut from some Papermania Textured card.I’ve added a layer of another colour of the same card and I’ve used some K & Co papers. The apeture and frame have been cut with Oval  Nellie’s Multi Frame Dies and I’ve dangled her using some craft wire.I created the tag with Classic Ovals Nestabilties and placed the eyelet using my Big Bite. The flowers have been made with a Martha Stewart Flower Stamp & Punch set.I’ve used a mix of Lip Pattern and corner inverted punches  and I’ve added a length of grosgrain ribbon and pearls to finish.

I’m also entering these challenges:

I love Promarkers – Sketch :

I hadn’t set out to follow this sketch but by the time I’d cut the apeture and decided to position the ribbon I thought I may as well add the other elements.

To in-springity and beyond!

This was last weeks entry for the Let’s Get Stamping challenge at Craftbubble.

DT member Rosie set this sketch:

The twist was ‘Stationery items’.

I’ve had these Banana Frog Retro Space stamps a little while but hadn’t got round to using them – slap my wrists!!But I knew exactly how to tackle the twist incorporating them.If you’re anything like me you keep an ever growing mound of junk ‘just in case’.So I hit upon an idea that gives movement to the spaceship.First I stamped the planet and spaceship in different colours of Memento ink.I coloured the stars and dots on the planet and the rivets on the spaceship with Metallic Silver Promarker.I used a selection of Promarkers to colour the rest of the ship to match the K & Co papers.I used Spellbinders Impressabilities Circle on a piece of Core’dinations Whitewash card then sanded it lightly.I cut  the countdown number strip from the same sheet of paper and mounted it onto silver mirri board.I also threaded a length of ball chain I found in my junk across the middle.I cut a bookplate from some more mirri card and added the stamped word, from the same set, and some brads.I cut out and mounted the planet with foam tape.Next I cut out the spaceship and fixed it to the card :

Can you tell what it is yet?

I cut down a spring from the inside of a used up pen.Boy it was a tough job  – but hey someone had to do it.I used silicone glue to adhere it.

I have to admit when creating all the elements I wasn’t too sure if  they would all work together. But I do have to say I was pleased with the results.I hope you agree.

Three Little Maids

Over at Passion for ProMarkers  this weeks challenge is the theme  ‘Girls,Girls,Girls’.So I decided to take it literally.

These are the pens I used:

I made a waterslide card featuring  Sharon Armstrong’s Oriental Delight download from Willow Designs.I found the instructions for making the waterslide to fit a 5 x 7 card here .Apart from ProMarkers I used white gel pen to add highlights to the hair. The ovals are cut from Nestabilities. The patterned paper is My Minds Eye and was a free gift with Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine. All card is Papermania Textured and I used a Lip Pattern punch on the corners.I attached some Prima flowers with brads which also hold the bar of the slider part in place.I  punched a hole and fixed the eyelet with my Crop-o-Dile,threaded length of ribbon through to act as a pull  for the moving part.

Here are some more pictures showing the rest of the toppers:

Halloween in August!

Most cardmakers are familiar with the term ‘Christmas in July’ but this week at Passion for ProMarkers the colours Pumpkin and Prussian were to be used in conjunction with a Halloween theme.

This is where panic set in.I don’t own any Halloween stamps and I didn’t want the expense of buying something I would never use again.I was going to adapt some other stamps I had but it didn’t quite work 😦

A couple of people kindly suggested finding images on the internet. But I had already decided that I would try and draw something.

So I drew a Jack-o-Lantern wearing a hat.Having already worked out a computer generated greeting I went for a jolly looking one rather than scary.I drew in pencil onto Papermania textured card followed by a Letraset Fineliner, rubbed out any pencil lines and set to work with my trusty Promarkers.Apart from the two challenge colours I added some texture with a Blender pen.To give extra dimension I cut the image out and mounted on some more of the same card using foam tape and went round the edges with Cool Grey 1.

The papers are free downloads from Canon Creative Park.A Woodware Seagull punch made the decorative corners before eyelets were added with a Crop-o Dile. The font is called Deathnote from a Manga series of the same name.

I don’t know what anyone else thinks but I was quite pleased with how the drawing turned out. This is the first time I’ve drawn anything for years.

I  can see why this theme was set as it works fantastically with this colour combo.

I do have to add that the Prussian does actually look blue here whereas IRL it takes on a much deeper purple shade which the papers compliment more.
