Well red(head)!

At Craft Your Passion the challenges are Always Anything Goes!We have the fabulous The East Wind as our sponsor too.Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job.

I thought I’d have a little fun using Anne with E by The East Wind. After colouring her with watercolour pencils I decided to make an inky, splodgy  background so I pulled out some Pebeo Drawing Gum that I bought a little while back for this purpose. In the past I’ve found to my cost that paper masking just does not work well with this technique and this did the job beautifully, especially as the inks had been watered down to allow them to splat better!Once the inks were dry I then over stamped with a script stamp. Then I removed the gum, which came away very easily. The only mistake I think I made was colouring the image first as it seemed a little faded but was soon rectified by adding more pencil where needed.I also added some white gel pen highlights at this stage.I just had to try out my newly purchased dies to add an aperture to the paper to frame her and to create the border at the bottom 🙂 I stamped the flowers,a past magazine freebie, onto some textured card before fussy cutting them.I made the little book to add to the front.I was going to fill the pages with more of the script stamp but actually thought I would instead write words of encouragement to the recipient when this type of card is needed.I finished off by adding two jute twine threaded buttons to the flower centres that were visible.

Floral beauty

We’d love to see your Monochromatic creations at AiFactory Challenges this week. You don’t need a AIFactory image to join in but there are some freebies if you’d like one of their images. You have until Wednesday 2nd March 11:59 EST to upload your project. If you’re uploading your project from an online gallery please tag your project with AIF069 so that we can find it easily and  leave you a comment. So stop by the challenge site to check out full details.Don’t forget to take a look at the wonderful DT creations while you’re there!

Here I’ve used the image She.Such a gorgeous, feminine image. She’d be pretty versatile too.Depending on the colours you use she would make a beautiful card for any age.I thought I’d try a different colouring medium for as much as I love my Promarkers I just feel there’s a lot more out there that I need to explore. So I printed her onto watercolour paper and coloured her with Distress Inks.If you want to try this NEVER  take the colour directly from the pad with your waterbrush or damp paintbrush. You’ll end up diluting the ink and ruining the pad.Instead press, twist and squish (technical term there!) gently onto a smooth shiny surface.I used a Woodware Hot Stuff Craft Mat and picked up the colour with a damp paintbrush. To give a more subtle colour dampen the area first. You can always build layers of colour from there. If you think the shade is too deep you can go back in with a wet paint brush and blot with a tissue/kitchen towel. I’m not really sure what colour you’d call the papers but I stuck mainly with Crushed Olive,Mustard Seed and Scattered Straw.I added a tiny amount of Tea Dye to tone down her hair. The skin is Tattered Rose and of course I had to use Worn Lipstick on her lips!I also used the Crushed Olive on the edges of the papers and dragged it across the originally creamy yellow ribbon to bring it together more.On reflection I’m wishing I’d inked the edges of the flowers.Ah well,we live and learn.Overall I’m quite pleased at my first attempt and although this image is very detailed it was so easy to colour. It was actually a lot of fun!I’ve never grown out of ‘colouring in’ – what a baby!!

I found this bargainous little beauty for 99p in The Works. It’s mini stapler but just look at all those fabby staples. It’s pretty robust too as it went through the ribbon as well as the heavyweight paper.

I also had some fantastic news!!I’m staying on the DT at AiFactory Challenges.Only this time the term is 6 months instead of 3!Whoo hoo!

Look!Up in the sky!

It’s a bird!It’s a plane!No it’s Super…um…dad!

We’d love to see your Male cards/projects at Craft Your Passion this week.We have the fab Dude Time Doodles as our sponsor and they’re giving away a $10 Gift certificate to spend in their store.Check the challenge blog for full details on how to play and don’t forget to take a look at the wonderful DT and GDT’s work while you’re there!

For my project I’ve chosen to make a wordbook using Henry Hero.Even tho’ I’ve had the Dreams Come True Papercraft Factory CD-rom by Funky Hand since it first came out this is the first time I’ve made one of these. Not sure what Anice & co would make of this. This kind of stuff is a little new to me.It’s going to be for my DH’s Birthday in a few weeks.I know a lot of people usually make this kind of thing for Father’s Day but I thought why wait ’til then?

Here are some more pics including a close up of the image on the cover:

I added Glossy Accents  to give him a healthy head of  hair and shiny teeth and drew in white gel pen highlights.

I sourced a Dad poem from the net and made a rosette from a squashed beer bottle cap,a Nestie cut piece of card and some ribbon.

I took this photo at Stanwick Lakes when he was showing off to the kids!Thought the sentiment was pretty apt!

One of my favourite snow pics.I know it doesn’t have much to do with the play but the words just popped into my head.

I just had to choose this photo from our holiday last year (they only took their hats off to be snapped). We went on a walk through some beautiful Devonshire countryside which ended with some crab fishing in a secluded bay.Don’t worry we put them all back when we’d finished.Did you know the best bait is bacon?!

I’ve added some extras on the back.I fashioned a pocket on the right. These used up some of the leftovers.

A selection of treats! I even decorated the backs.I coloured the images with pencil after forgetting that Promarkers bleed through and ruining the first teacup one I made –  oooops!!

Hope DH appreciates the work I put into this and likes it!!Hope you like it too.

Seams sew pretty

The theme for this weeks challenge at Craft Your Passion is MONOCHROMATIC.The colour choice is yours –  just create away in your chosen tones.

For rules on how to play click on the link. You could also become the proud owner of some free digital stamps if you’re chosen as the winner! There’s some beautiful inspiration from the DT and GDT.If you’d like to join us as a guest please look under the Followers at the top of the page.

For my card I’ve used the Couture image from CoCoDingo, coloured it with Promarkers and applied  Distress Inks around the edges. I then coated the whole image in a fairly thick layer of Crackle Accents.Because this is quite a decent area to cover I gently spread it out with a plastic glue spreader – you know the type kiddies use (what that says about me I don’t know?!).As this isn’t as thick as Glossy Accents it tends to dry flatter and with the crackle effect it doesn’t really show any drag marks.Once it was dry I sponged some Antique Linen Distress Ink into the cracks then buffed off the excess with a soft tissue.Wish I’d taken a close up pic but too late I’ve posted it now!I just love these Papermania Persimmon papers and I got it at a discount too – so even better!I thought there would be nothing better to finish this off than with some threaded buttons, lace, pins and a sewing label. This is actually part of a free printable set from Craft Stamper Magazine. There are lots of other Vintage Downloads too.Just click on Resources and then Vintage Downloads.

For my card I’ve used one of the newer images from Digi Doodle Shop. She’s called Fairy in Flight and as soon as I saw her I knew I wanted  to create something with her – she’s so beautiful.Initially I was going to use her as a Christmas fairy. But I’m SO not ready for Christmas I decided instead to make a girly card for my niece’s birthday.I cut up to parts of her using a metal ruler and craft knife, then cut  around the rest that I wanted to hang over the edge with decoupage scissors.Like a kind of manual version of the ‘Out-of-the-box’ technique using Nesties.I coloured her with Promarkers and added Glamour Dust to her wings.I hope you agree that she looks ‘fairy beautiful’!

Mermaid Love

At Cowgirl’s Sunday Stamp’en Challenge  you need to make your own DP backgound! That’s right no reaching for your favourite pack. It’s time to get creative! Please click on the link to findout the full  details and while you’re there take a look at the DT’s fantastic work!

We have the fabulous Michelle Perkett as a sponsor too!So here I’ve used her gorgeous Soulmates image. As the image has a nice layout I didn’t want to interfere with it too much and tried a technique that I’d not done before. After colouring the image I gently dabbed a Versamark pen (being water based the ink will smudge if rub with the nib) over the whole of it and the sentiment then clear embossed it.The bubbles are actually covered with Glossy Accents to give more dimension.Once it had cooled I used Distress Inks over the entire sheet.I then stamped over it with a crackle backgrounder.I gently buffed the ink off the shiny parts with a soft tissue.I was having a problem with inkjet ink smudging before with Distress Ink and I didn’t want to spoil the beauty of the image.Apart from that it’s intensified the colours so beautifully.I stamped some scrolls in green to make it look like seaweed and added some  acrylic dewdrops. To make them more sparkly I applied some stickles to the back but they still have to be adhered with Glossy Accents. It’s a shame I didn’t really capture just how glittery this is IRL.

*This post has been edited to show a close up of the sparkle*

I’m going to hide this card ’til next Summer to give to my DH for our Anniversary!!

A little bird told me…

…It’s time to Celebrate!

Inside the card.I think you can tell from the colours I’m finding it hard to let go of Summer!!Maybe it’s because here in the U.K. we didn’t really have one!

The challenge for this week at Pear Tree Designs is CELEBRATION!So whether it’s a Birthday,Wedding,Anniversary,New Baby or any reason to think of to celebrate we’d love to see you card/project!!We have a fabulous sponsor too.Robyn’s Fetish Digital Stamps And More  are offering the phenomenal prize of 5 digital stamps or paper sets!!With all that on offer you’ve no excuse not to play along!!For the rules and see the fantastic DT samples please click on the link above.

I’ve used A Little Birdie Told Me  from Robyn’s Fetish Digital Stamps And More and coloured it with Promarkers.Inside I’ve used a resized (love how you can do this with digis) version of the image and cut out just the birdie. It’s sooo tweet!!Hee hee.I just couldn’t resist using the freebie from Craft Stamper magazine again!(the frame has been coloured with Promarkers)I’ve also used a dot of Glossy Accents on the eyes and some Diamond Stickles on the flowers and frame of the word stamp. The other wording has been created on the computer and printed straight onto the DPs.I’ve made the flowers myself using a mix of the daisy element on the Cuttlebug OliviaAlphabet Die and a Craft Tonic flower punch with same DPs as on the card.I’ve used a fine liner pen to create faux stitching to make it look as if the two pieces have been sewn together on the band across the card. The ribbon which was originally cream has been coloured to match with Promarkers. It’s a great way to get a perfect match to your project and it saves money as you can buy more reasonably priced rolls in cream or white.Although I have a tendency to spend far too much on crafty goodies I do try very hard to snatch a few pennies back!

Wheeee!

It’s SKETCH time at Craft Your Passion this week! And here it is :

I love the layered elements and found it a joy to work with. For more details head on over by clicking the link. You’ll see the fabulous cards made by my fellow DT too!

I’ve used Choupinou Skating by CoCo Dingo and I love the movement in this image.I also used the ‘Out-of the-box’ technique when cutting him out.I decided to lay off the Promarkers for a change and used Polychromos pencils instead.I blended them with low odour thinners intended for use with oil paints as they are oil based rather than wax like children’s colouring pencils. And being a bit of a cheap skate I dipped a cheap cotton bud (the cheaper the better I say as they don’t have much cotton on the tip so don’t soak the liquid up) into it rather than a more expensive paper stump.I love this sentiment stamp and it’s already proved very useful. It’s a freebie from October’s issue of Craft Stamper magazine designed by Bev Fletcher of Banana Frog fame.I have to confess I made up the rest of the card and had to wait ’til I got my hands on a copy!

Vintage Butterfly

Over at Craft Your Passion there is a recipe of ‘LACE AND AT LEAST ONE FLOWER’ to follow.A beautiful combination I hope you’ll agree.

Head on over to draw some inspiration from the DT’s beautiful work, grab the chance to win some FREE digi stamps and apply for a GDT slot too!!

I thought I’d go in a slightly different direction with this one.I usually go for cute but swapped it for vintage as it seemed to suit this gorgeous image,Butterfly in lavender by Coco Dingo.I tried my own variation of the ‘Faux Porcelain Flowers’ technique from the September issue of Craft Stamper magazine.I don’t own a Melt Pot so I sprayed each layer of this handmade rose with Crafter’s Companion Spray and Shine.Left to dry before assembelling.I used some Distress Ink too, leaving a halo of white around the image. It really makes the colours ‘pop’!Of course I had to throw in some pearls to the mix – they just seemed to fit in perfectly.
