Some-tin sew pretty

cypdt24thdec 003

At Craft Your Passion this week we want you to Alter It (you need to alter an item using any medium and crafty tools you have in your craft room). We have the fabulous The Robin’s Nest as our sponsor too. Head on over to check how to play and win.Don’t forget to take a look at the DT and GDT inspiration, they’ve done a wonderful job!

A while ago I bought some lovely Coffee and Cream Woodware buttons but as they came in cellophane bag they kept escaping into the bottom of my craft tote making it difficult to find them.So this seemed the ideal opportunity to make something specia lto keep them in – after all they deserve it!I took a Christmas tin that one of my kids had a small gift of sweets in a few years ago (yes I’m a hoarder!) :

I used some gorgeous papers and beautiful stamps that came free with the January issue of Cardmaking and Papercraft Magazine (as a subscriber I get my issue early). First I stamped a piece of spotty paper with the measuring tape stamp and wrapped it around the tin, leaving a gap at the top as the lid does fit very tightly!Next I covered the side and top of the lid with some light coloured kraft card edged with Coffee Archival Ink.Then I die cut a lacy circle from the flip side of the spotty paper, this rather pretty floral design, again edged with Archival ink.A length of this natural looking ric rac that I found at my local craft warehouse was adhered around the edge of the lid. As soon as I saw it I had to have it as it brought back fond memories from my childhood.I remember my Mum making summer dresses and edging them with this stuff 🙂 Unfortunately I never inherited her needlework skills and altho’ she tried I was given up on as a hopeless case..lol.After stamping the thread card I wound some embroidery floss around it.I found this fab pink topped pin in my stash and added a needle that drives me crazy as the eye is far too small to thread anything through it!I filed the ends down so they are blunt tho’ 😉 I’m clumsy enough! The flowers were cut up from some daisy chain lace that has been lurking for far too long and topped with some pearls to match the pin.The two plastic buttons are the Woodware ones and the wooden heart one was another escapee taking refuge in the bottom of my tote so I decided to throw that in for good measure too.All have been threaded with the same floss as before. Here are some more pics :

Being put to good use 😀 Luckily the tin was pale blue so it doesn’t look too bad with the lid off 😉 As I don’t have a craft room I wanted to create something that wouldn’t look out of place sat on the dresser in my bedroom.I hope I’ve achieved that.

Globe-al Sparkle

We’ll have our first draw upon reaching 600.At this moment in time we’re up to 539.So why not pop over to Digi Doodle Shop Challenges and become a follower!

As it’s the 1st of the month (December already?!) there is a new sale statring from today. There are some new digi stamps instore too!

A big thank you to those who helped with your generous donations to Pet Pardons.A total of $78.00 will be winging it’s way to aid these poor animals.

Now onto my card.I’ve used Christmas Globe by Digi Doodle Shop and coloured it with ProMarkers.I masked the rest of the image and applied a coating of Crafter’s Companion Spray & Sparkle after placing the image in my sophisticated ‘spray booth’…well…OK… it’s a tatty old shoe box lined with kitchen towel but it does the job. This gives the impression it has just been shaken without going to the trouble of making a shaker card.I also added a touch of glitter to the poinsettia. The glitter card I’ve used sheds by the bucket load so I applied some Crafter’s Companion Spray & Shine to seal it all in.Now it can’t get away from me!I used a Punch Around the Page set on the mat the globe is set on.The panel on the front of the image is blank so I stamped a greeting on there. The big jewel on the bow is actually a push pin.I messed up when I bought 2 packs of these thinking they were brads.I just trimmed down the back with wire cutters and set it in place with silicon glue.I die cut some  snowflakes and topped the middles with gems.Hope this is sparkly enough for you!

Make a little birdhouse in your soul

Happy 1st of December. Can you believe it?It’s our first ever Anything Goes  this week at Willow Sketchie Challenges! So head on over to join in the fun.One lucky winner will receive a voucher to spend online at Willow Designs!

I’ve been wanting to make a little birdhouse for these adorable owls for aaaaages but not any old one it had to be a box too.Yeah,I’m fussy! Not being clever enough to design the whole thing from scratch myself I finally came upon this wonderful and clever template at Creativity in Progress blog. And there were some great pics to follow too.So nice and easy for someone like me!I’ve made this to match my card from last week  using Walter in a Pom Pom Hat from the Water and Winnie does Christmas CD-rom by Willow Designs.I printed out the paper, also on the CD-rom,onto thin card then printed the template on the back, cut it out, scored the fold lines with my Martha Stewart Score Board and stuck it together using wet glue.I prefer to use this as tapes dry out and also it provides a little slip so you can line things up better.Of course you need some patience whilst it dries (not my strong point)!I printed the box part template onto the back of the card I’d chosen to go with the papers.I did change the roof and base slightly.I made the roof quarter of and inch wider and half an inch longer before punching the ends I also added some strips of card and a small piece I hand cut just to neaten the front up.The base I cut from a Nestie and I cut a door from another Nestie. After sticking Walter on I ‘iced’ the edge of the roof with some Stickles, for a snowy feel, and gave him some more snow to stand in.I’m going to make more of these for Teacher’s and TA’s pressies for Christmas. The box is empty as I haven’t decided whether to fill them with something sweet ‘n’ tasty or sweet ‘n’ smelly yet. Because the lid is a nice snug fit it could be hung from the tree as long as the gift inside isn’t too heavy or even once it’s empty.

The title for my post? It’s a line from an obscure 90’s song, called Birdhouse in your soul by They Might Be Giants. It’s only stuck with me ‘cos for the life of me I haven’t got a clue what it’s about!!
