Diamonds are a girl’s best friend

The challenge this week at Craft Your Passion is to make a DIAMOND FOLD CARD.This style of card is so much fun and they are actually quite easy to make – well, they’ve got to be if I can make one!As with any folding technique it’s just a case of being as accurate as you can and creating sharp creases. It also folds flat to a 4″ x 4″ square so it fits in an envelope beautifully.

In  case you are unfamiliar with these or you’ve never thought you could attempt one I prepared a tutorial for our DT and any challenge entrants to follow :

There, you have no excuse not to now!!

If you’re not sure about any of the steps feel free to ask me a question and I’ll do my best to answer it.

Of,course this is just one type. There are others,so if you know any feel free to enter those too.BUT it must be a FOLD not just diamond shaped pieces of card on a regular card base.

For details on how to win some fabulous digi stamps and how to play along please click on the link to the challenge site. Please take the time to have  a look at the DT and GDT’s amazing creations too.You could also become a GDT too.Just click on the link under the Followers.

My card base is created from a sheet of cardstock from the DCWV Old World stack .I coveted this for a long while and was lucky enough to find it half price. That was almost a year ago and I can’t bear to use it!!I’m so glad I did for this tho’.It compliments this sweet Choupintette Swing image from CoCo Dingo Digital Stamps perfectly.I used a square topper but you could mat and layer diamond pieces.I chose not to because I’m rubbish at cutting the angles right!!There,my secret is out – it wasn’t some kind of clever design plan after all.

Supplies :
Image : Choupinette Swing from CoCo Dingo Digital Stamps
Mediums : Promarkers ,Bundle Sage Distress Ink (applied with a piece cut from the non green  side of a pan scouring sponge to give a textured finish)

Top Tip Tuesday : Use an image/sentiment
** My Top Tip is actually contained in my Diamond Fold Card Tutorial. When creating a fold without using a score board place a metal ruler where you want it to be,use the grid on your cutting mat to make sure everything’s straight, then fold the card in towards the edge of the ruler. To make a really sharp crease use a bone folder, checking that all edges are lined up first. This should give you perfect results every time.**

Seeing Double

This week at Craft Your Passion we’d love to see double of anything on your card.Could be images, flower, gems, brads, buttons…well anything as long as there are two!!For full details on how to play along  and for the chance to win some digi images pay the challenge blog a visit. You’ll get to see my fellow DT’s fabulous creations too!

I decided to go for two images so I could do double the colouring!I then came upon the idea of making a step ladder card so they could stand either end.A bit like china dogs on a mantlepiece – does anyone remember them?!I resized and horizontally flipped  the image in Paint before printing a second time.I used the template from here but instead of drawing the lines in pencil I used my Fiskars Euro trimmer to cut and score them instead. I ‘constructed’ the doghouse myself.I run a piece of cardstock through my Big Shot using the Cuttlebug Distressed Stripe folder then cut the pieces, including the little diamond detail, and adhered them together using PVA glue.I cut a piece of black card rounding the top to make the doorway. Not sure if they’ll mind sharing tho’ ?To complete the scene I simply used some blue and green papers to create sky and grass. It doesn’t show in the pic but I did use Glossy Accents on their noses to give a healthy wet look.I put a thick layer on to add dimension too.I dabbed the nozzle on the tongues to give a shiny, wet look but so that it dried flat.

Supplies :
Image : Fluffy Dog from Lauretta’s Digital Stamps
Mediums : Promarkers,Glossy Accents
Sentiment: From Kanban Wobblers Farmyard Friends stamp set

One little Sugarplum…

…sitting on the wall.

At Pear Tree Designs this week the lovely Donna has set a fabby sketch to follow :

Our sponsors are One Stop Card Crafts and they are offering one lucky winner a fantastic Goody Bag. Full details on how to enter are posted on the challenge blog , so take a peek! You’ll see the rest of the DT’s wonderful cards too!!

For my card I’ve used a stamp from the C.C. Designs Sugarplums Limited Edition Kit Take A Seat from All That Scraps.I’ve found it’s far more economic to buy these kits from them as even having them shipped really cuts the cost of buying each individually in the U.K.They’re even showing a few left in stock if anyone’s interested.I just love the cuteness of these stamps plus they’re just perfect to colour with Promarkers,as I’ve done here.I stamped the wall she’s sitting on to some card that matches the papers but , I stamped her onto a piece of white card, coloured her and cut her out.Not only does this give dimension it gives the ideal base to colour the skintones.I found this gorgeous pack of A4 Papermania Persimmon papers on offer at Colemans Craft Warehouse  for the bargainous £2.99.Also included in the set are two sheets of die cut shapes.I used one to stamp my sentiment onto.If you live close enough it’s well worth a visit!

Autumn Days

Over at Digi Doodle Shop’s Best the challenge is FALL FOR ME.We’d love to see your Autumn/Fall projects.Head on over to join in and see full details on how you could be the lucky winner of  a $10 Gift Certificate or GDT slot. You’ve got to take a look at the ever fabulous projects by the DT too.

For my card I’ve used the beautifully drawn AUTUMN SCENE from Digi Doodle Shop .There are some some specials this month – check out my side bar then why not head on over for some bargains !!

I printed the image out in quite a large size and coloured it with Promakers.I wanted to create a typical Autumn sky so I started with a layer of grey cloud, followed by some pale blue sky and finished with some orange, yellow and pink tones for where the sun hangs low in the sky at this time of year.I used a Promarker Blender pen to weaken and merge the colours.I used the same technique on the grass. I wanted the leaves and trees to be the main focus.I cut around the leaves and frame as much as I could and shaped the leaves and mounted them on tiny foam squares. (I’ve lost my silicone glue – help!!)

The base card is a size of my own invention!!I cut two pieces of Kraft 8″ x       7 1/2″ ,first scoring a little way in from the top on the back piece to make a hinge, then adhered them together using ultra strong DST.

Supplies :
Image : Autumn Scene  from Digi Doodle Shop
Medium : Promarkers plus Blender pen
Cardstock : Kraft, Mustard and Burgundy leather look from my stash
Tools : X-Cut guillotine,X-Cut craft knife,decoupage scissors

Handbags and Gladrags

Over at Craft Your Passion this week it’s ANYTHING GOES.Go on go wild and get creative!!There’s also some digi stamps waiting for one lucky winner. Why not pay us a visit to check out the rules and play along. There’s loads of inspiration from the DT’s wonderful creations too.

I thought I’d have some fun with this Sacoche image from CoCo Dingo Digital Stamps.I bought a pack of card with animal prints a while back to use with some animal stamps I had but never got round to it ( as per usual – so many ideas so little time!).It also made a change from reaching for the Promarkers.Plus animal prints are big in fashion at this season.I have to admit I don’t wear them myself.Personally I think they look far more beautiful on the animals nature graced them with.In fact the only animal print clothes I’ve ever worn were a pair of leopard spot jeans I found after seeing the girl in Michael Jackson’s Thriller video wearing them.I don’t thimk I looked as good as her tho’!!Er…anyway back to the card.Because the card is glossy I embossed it with black detail powder as soon as it came out of the printer. Not only beacause it would’ve taken an age for the ink to dry but to define the outline. It also acted as a reservoir to contain the glue before the glitter was added and a white paint pen I used on the flower on the front of the bag.I also paper pieced it using foam pads for more dimension.

It’s a bit OTT glam and I really can’t imagine who on Earth I could really give this to.I just wanted to play around and have fun!

This also reminds me of the theme from The Office  – an incedibly funny programme starring Ricky Gervais.Oh and the Stereophonics version of the song.Hence the title.

We have a fabulous sponsor in the form of The Character Cafe. They are offering one lucky winner a $10 Gift Certificate! Please check the challenge blog for full rules on how to be in for a chance to win.You might also like to gain some inspiration from the rest of the DT’s wonderful creations.

As I didn’t have anything suitable in my stash I suddenly remembered seeing a few craft projects on peoples blogs using images from Elizabeth O. Dulemba,a children’s book author and illustrator.Although they are colouring pages aimed at children the art is so beautifully drawn they lend theirselves to crafty projects too.As with any artist it’s important to respect  copyright. Here is a copy of her Angel Policy .

It’s well worth visiting all areas of this site to see all her books and artwork. They are all amazing.

To make it nice and sparkly I printed the image, having flipped it horizontally first, onto inkjet acetate then applied glitter with a dries clear PVA glue.I mounted it over some glitter card attatching it with brads to add even more sparkle.I simply created the background using embossed and die cut pieces of Core’dinations Gemstones card.
