Fairy Dogfather

No,it’s not a typo – he’s a dog,he’s a fairy and his gender makes him a father!

I’ve used another stamp from the Fairy Friends set by Pink Cat Studio.I’m on a mission to use stamps that have never been touched by ink ATM.We’re going on holiday soon and I’m on a craft spending crash diet.I really need to buy clothes instead – what a waste of money!Anyway back to the card. He’s been stamped in  Rich Cocoa Memento and coloured with Promarkers and I’ve highlighted his eyes and nose, the bone and the wings with white gel pen.Because this is a boy’s card I used Glossy Accents on his wings instead of the usual glitter type stuff.GA has also been added to the same areas the gel pen was applied to.I printed a selection of background papers from The Wobblers CD-rom by Kanban onto white card.I pierced around 3 of the edges on the background piece and drew faux stitching with more gel pen.I cut a variety of Standard and Classic Scalloped Circle Nestabilities and repeated the process around the edges of those. The topper has been mounted using foam tape.I adhered the sentiment, from the same stamp set, onto the smallest scalloped circle and lay it over felt cut with a Sizzlits Curly Decorative strip. This card has been made for a friend of my youngest son,who will be 6 tomorrow.I try to keep it a bit simple with kids cards and just add some interesting accents.

‘Twas the night before Christmas…

…when all through the house not a creature was stirring, not even a PENGUIN?!

I had the idea last year to use this little cutie as a Christmas stamp even tho’ he’s from the Pink Cat Studio Fairy Friends stamp plate. But like sooo many of my stamps this is the first time he’s seen ink!I’ve coloured him with Promarkers and added a coating of clear Copic Atyou Spica over his wings and dotted some Sky Blue on his wand.(Click on the pic for a closer view).I used a mix of Standard, Inverted Scalloped and Classic Scalloped Circle Nestabilities to mount him on.A short length of grosgrain ribbon has been folded in half and sandwiched between the layers. The front of the card has been cut diagonally,a greeting stamped and a piece of acetate that has been embossed using the Cuttlebug Snowflakes folder attached with brads.I mounted a piece of Daisy & Dandelion Winter’s Tale paper, that I had left over from last year, onto some card from my stash. These have also been cut diagonally (not to be confused with Diagon Alley! As any H.P. fan knows!).The topper was adhered with foam tape for extra dimension.Because I have loads of Christmas cards to make I try and create an effective, stylish design (I think) and also use my stash frugally.I’ll probably mix these up a bit with different images, papers and embellishments.I may even substitute the acetate with vellum.

Sweet ‘n’ sparkly

This weeks challenge at Pear Tree Designs is Glitter/Sparkles.Our sponsor this time is One Stop Card Crafts and they are offering one lucky winner a prize! So what are you waiting for?Pop on over for more details and to check out the fabulous DT creations.

I decided to make a tent card as I haven’t made one for a while and it fitted with my idea for this card perfectly. The main image is a C C Designs Swiss Pixie and the Birdhouse is from the same set. Both have been coloured with Promarkers and have had touches of Diamond Stickles added even tho’  it doesn’t show well in the pic.(Deeply disappointed!)The papers are the My Mind’s Eye freebie that came with the August issue of Cardmaking and Papercraft magazine.I love these papers so much that I did some detective work and found out that in real life they’re from the Contrary Collection. The card I’ve used is Core’dinations Gemstones. It has a beautiful sparkly, pearlescent finish.I’ve used Classic and Scallop Oval Nestabilities to create the aperture and pierced around the edge of the frame. The white strip has been punched with the Martha Stewart Flower Bed Deep Edge Punch. The swirly leaf has been cut using Marianne Design Creatables Ribbon Flower 3 and the pink flower using Flora 1.The  petals on the paper rose have been edged with Diamond Stickles.I’ve added a little bird cut from the paper stack, more Stickles on his chest, and a butterfly charm to the Birdhouse.I’ve used pink and green pearls as finishing touches. All corners have had a small corner rounder punch used on them.

A present surprise!

Here’s my DT card this week for Craft Your Passion. There is the prize of digital images for one lucky winner. Why not drop by for more details and take a look at the amazing work by the DT.This time there is a sketch to follow:

I got to work with this cute little fella. He’s called ‘Choupinou cadeau’ and is available at CoCoDingo. He reminds me so much of my DS1 – a cheeky chap with a heart of gold.So I coloured him with Promarkers, giving him a shock of blonde hair.Just like my boy.I cut the piece out using Eastern Oval Nellie’s Multi Frame Dies.I used a mix of Antique Linen and Frayed Burlap Distress Inks around the edges. Now because I’d used the largest one for the image I then had to cut the matting piece by going around the edge with a craft knife. I covered up the raw edges with a Promarker in a complimentary shade.Next I embossed the two panels with the Seeing Spots Cuttlebug folder. The paper is K & Co Hopscotch. The coloured card is Papermania Textured.I stamped the greeting from a  Forever Friends Christmas stamp that came free with a magazine.I’ve used a Lip Pattern punch on the corners, inked up my base card in the same Distress Inks and added 3(!) of my precious buttons.I LOVE using them but HATE giving them away!I think I will give this to my Son for his Birthday – that way they get to stay in the family!

I tried something new ( well for me at least).I’ve decorated the inside too :

I’ve used the same materials as on the front except I used a smaller version of the image and the addition of faux buttons cut from Circle Nesties – well normal ones would just be TOO bulky wouldn’t they?OK so it means I wouldn’t have to part with any more real ones.I created the verse on the computer.

Brace yourself  here come the challenges :

Fairy dust obviously works!

This card was for my GDT spot at Craft Your Passion for July.BUT the lovely Lauretta was so taken with it she kindly offered me a DT place!!Excited?Course I am!!!

This weeks challenge is to add real or faux stitching to your creation.

I got to use  one of Lauretta’s images ‘Sharing is so fairy good’ .Everything has been coloured using Promarkers.Except the skirt – I’ve paper pieced that and adhered it with silicone glue to add extra dimension.Diamond Stickles have been applied to the stripes on her wings. The papers are K & Co and the red and green card are from my stash.I’ve used a Martha Stewart Zig Zag Edge Punch on the green piece. As there is no way I can sew in real life I used a pokey tool to make some holes and drew on the zig zag stitching – even tho’ my gel pen decided to have a few issues!I found this lovely length of ribbon complete with faux stitching in my stash and pleated it a couple of times on one end.I added the sentiment from Pink Cat Studio. Both this piece and the one it’s mounted onto have been cut using Nestablilities Inverted Scalloped Circles.I used an inverted corner punch on the main image and added flower gems to finish.

A bit sheepish

This weeks challenge at Pear Tree Designs is ‘Animals’.As ever there is a fabby prize up for grabs. The Character Cafe are offering a mix of digital stamps for one lucky winner. So why not play along and take a look at the brilliant DT creations?

For my card I used one of Donna’s digital images from Pear Tree Designs Digital Images. This one is called Sheepie.I merged and resized two of him, flipping one so he faced the other way.I then coloured them with Promarkers and used chalk to create the grass and sky.I printed out a separate image coloured his ears and face with Promakers again.I applied a coating of Snow Marker, let it dry, then dotted some more on then allowed it to dry before giving it a blast with my heat gun to create a fluffy fleece.I cut him out very carefully – making sure I didn’t turn him into lamb chops!!I adhered him over the top using silicone on his body and PVA on his ear and legs. The patterned papers are K & Co and the green card is So Mod Core’dinations. I made the holes with a Cutter Bee Piercing Bug and drew some wobbly lines with a fine liner pen. This is a perfect example of  how my sewing would look if it were real!I roughed up the edges with the Tim Holtz Paper Distresser.I saw this style of card demo’ed by Debbie Moore on Create and Craft and thought it would suit this cute ‘n’ quirky image.I fixed some eyelets for strength before threading the fibres through, added a tag with a computer generated message, then tied it together.I found the large eyelet in a matching shade of pink so I added it to complete the card.

I do refer to Sheepie as a he but I suppose technically she’s a girl!I’m not quite sure who I’d give this card to.Maybe if  DD1 does as well as expected in her exams it could quite well be a card for her.It makes a change from the usual congratulations doesn’t it?
